Hello all, I was reading over a post about optimizing Shadow Blade for dpr and I was wondering if you would allow Thaumaturgy to give advantage for a full minute with that spell?

How would that even work? What use of Thaumaturgy would possibly grant that advantage?

I don't see how you can argue that Thaumaturgy would even possibly give you advantage.

You mean the 'cause flames to dim' part, and then use the Shadow Blade's advantage-in-dim-light rule? Maybe if there's only one big fire in the room as the only light source. It's creative, but situational.

It seems the author of that thread, was interpreting the following line from Thaumaturgy
• You cause flames to flicker, brighten, dim, or change color for 1 minute.
As allowing you to darken an area for 1 minute, since your likely trying to use the spell in a dungeon IE lit by torches. I was neutral on the idea, but I understood his post to be using it in that manner.
The spell Shadow Blade's relevant line:
• When you attack (implied, with this weapon) in dim light or darkness, you have advantage.

• You cause flames to flicker, brighten, dim, or change color for 1 minute.
With a range of 30 feet you could conceivably dim every light source near you with 1 casting.

Interesting idea -- dimming the lights wouldn't foul up other members of your party the way a Darkness spell would.

Neat Idea, work with the DM.
