Hello! I'll go straight to the point and excuse me if I say or act inappropriately but, I hope you'll understand, it's my first time participating here. So, I was working on a new character for a 3.5e campaign I'm playing on and I decided to go for an artificer (lvl 4). My question is as follows: Is there any way to add my int bonus to skill checks that aren't int-based as to make artifacts/magical items earlier in the campaign? Many thanks!

As far as I know, the only way to do that is by a 3 lvl "dip" into factotum, and even them it only applies to str/dex skills and checks.

EDIT: Ok, turns out there in one more way. A one lvl dip into diviner (http://srd.realmspire.com/unearthedSpecialist.html#diviner) lets you add your int mod to any skill check, then again, only once a day.

The real question is: Why do you think adding into to your skills will let you make magic items faster/earlier? (Players can never make artifacts without dm intervention)

Factotum 3 level dip for Int to all Str and Dex-based skills and ability checks (including initiative)
Keen Intellect feat for Int replacing Wis on Heal, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks, plus on Will saves.

Probably some other feats to use Int on other things (there's one for Reflex saves, I think), but those two things alone will net you Int on will saves and at least half of all skill checks in the game, so...that's pretty solid.

Like Crake, not sure what you meant, though.

For any question like this, refer to this brilliantly useful post:

I'm going to assume it's to do with the Artificer's Item Creation ability, but that just requires boosting UMD to make things reliably, which is a heck of a lot easier to pull off than adding Int to all skills.
