What would you all think of creating a fighter subclass that instead of normal features got a legendary action at each subclass feature level?

I'm thinking along the lines of level 3 - legendary resistance. Once per day you can choose to succeed in a saving throw you failed.

Maybe a feature that let's you harm or hamper an opponent on their turn or move through/past the enemy without provoking an attack of opportunity?

Well, they'd need to be relatively low-powered, since you'll be able to do them every single turn. It's not a terrible idea, though.

One key thing is to make sure that it has an active choice as part of the level 3 feature. Whatever your level 3 feature is, it has to be explosive, cool, and dramatically change how the playstyle is.

If you follow the same pattern before and after getting the subclass, it's a bad subclass.

Even something as simple as Bear Totem Barbarian still means you want to stand toe-to-toe with mages and elementals when you couldn't before.

It should probably be something more interesting than a Saving Throw improvement, since that does nothing for your playstyle. A movement ability would work well.

--------------

While the concept is unique, what's the goal? What is the narrative? What would adding a character like this do for 5e, and why would someone want to play it?

I was actually thinking any legendary actions would have to be a limited number each. Like the legendary resistance being a 1/long rest, but a major thing that can pull your fat out of the fire if you use it at the right time.

You might find a bit more advice in the Homebrew section, rather than just the 5e section.

Regardless, I agree with Man_Over_Game.
