Howdy. Since Paizo continues to publish a ton of splatbooks (Player Companions, Campaign Settings, some hardbacks), I'm curious what recent spells from those books have been popular, notable and desired from the last few years.

And let's say, let's choose books from Paizo books from the last 2-3 years or so. This eliminates using a lot of their most popular books ACG, APG, etc.)

****

I'm asking because there's very little conversation about the fresher, newer spells from Paizo. When it comes to threads talking about the best PFRPG spells or the best combo spells, etc. - we see the older spells taking up the lion's share of the conversation. Especially the core rulebook spells!

Thanks!

I quite like Cloak of Secrets and Coin Shot from Heroes of the Streets.

The first one, because it's a great way to ensure a little privacy in a crowd; and Coin Shot, of course, is a nod to the Mistborn novels, a way to emulate a coinshot without needing allomancy by name.

I love Tears to Wine (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/t/tears-to-wine/) both for the buff that stacks with almost anything and for the capacity to ruin the economy via wine. Also keeps the party's drunken master entertained

In my 20th level game, Coin Shots with glyphs of warding are the favored weapons of our party's insane, played like the forum says he should be played (with some bans) wizard.

I don't know when my personal favs Snowball and Infernal Healing came out, but those are some good goddamn spells.

I don't know when my personal favs Snowball and Infernal Healing came out, but those are some good goddamn spells.

The former is Ultimate Magic, and the latter Cheliax: Empire of Devils as I recall.

Hm, recent neat spells.

While I wouldn't call it GOOD, Anywhere But Here (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/anywhere-but-here/) is very interesting, and a good excuse for a GM or player to take the campaign way off rails unexpectedly. From teh same book Invoke Deity (http://aonprd.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Invoke%20Deity) is pretty cool and a solid spell, but most of that book falls under the umbrella of "this is really great for a specific kind of campaign but otherwise sucks", liek Anywhere But Here, or Soulseeker..

Explode Head (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/e/explode-head) and Death Clutch (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/death-clutch) are very flavorful, and not all that bad save or die/suck/take damage spells. Xd6 save for half single target is already okay, but when it can be used to instantly take out a fleeing weakened enemy or casually explode a peasant in a gory, horrifying manner, it becomes a good spell for a villain or callous hero to toss around. Similarly, a "save or die, save and suck" spell is always nice, making Death Clutch a marginally better Suffocation.

Neither are GREAT spells, but they're solid and flavorful.

Visualization of the Mind (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/v/visualization-of-the-mind) is pretty baller as a buff spell. Charisma and Wisdom in particular.

Rift of Ruin (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/r/rift-of-ruin/) is basically "what if we took the Create pit line of spells to its logical conclusion", which is as good as it sounds. SR: No save or die (basically) that can also be used as ghetto Summon Monster VII if they pass their saves. Flexible, powerful, I like it.

Well my Magus Guide (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?423754-Myrrh-Frankincense-and-Steel-Kurald-Galain-s-Guide-to-the-Magus) keeps track of new material as it's printed. So looking at spells from 2017 and 2018...

Anywhere But Here, Ether Step, Infuse Self (planar adv)
Shared Training (blood ot ancients)
Cheetah's Sprint, Flame Blade, Free Spirit, Wave Form, Fey Form and Shackle (ult wilderness)
holy ice weapon and slipstream (elem. master)
Deivon's Parry and Tactical Adaptation (adv guide)
Grasp and Rock Whip (hot darklands)

I kinda like Anywhere But Here, it sounds hilarious as a panic button to prevent a total party kill, expecially if the team is not high level enough to have access to other means of planar travel (they'll probably hate you).
Fey form may open for interesting character designs.

Thank you all for your contributions! I've been researching each of these @ Archives of Nethys ... and I see why they were all chosen. They're mechanically well-balanced with cool fluff/flavor. Kinda shows us that Paizo knows how to flex its chops from being perfectly dialed-in to a decade+ PF spell design model. I could see a number of these threatening some of the hardcore go-to spells for spell slot selection. A good number of them also seem to be terrific candidates for low-level slots chosen by high level casters (since in such a situation, low-level slots are rarely useful for offense).
