I was looking through the Knight class and the Shield Ally and Improved Shield Ally abilities struck me as an interesting type of mechanic. Of particular interest, it seems like the Improved version lets you take the damage from a spell targeted at an ally, but not any spell effects. Is there any RAW way to be able to take a spell (ray or otherwise) for an ally? Jumping in front of a bullet (or Scorching Ray) is a pretty standard 'heroic' action, but I can't figure out a way to be able to do so in any circumstance. If there is such a mechanic hidden somewhere in the depths of 3.5 splatbooks I would love to know. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of feats and class features that can do this.

I thought the Interpose feature of the Tactical Soldier worked, but on second readin it only works on melee attacks.

Dutiful Guardian feat (DotU) should work...

Yeah, that should do the trick. Thanks!
