View Full Version : What's up with the rift in the Elven lands?

Is it still left unattended? If so, it's been that way for literally decades and really should have expanded and been noticed by now with how the azure city gate unraveled. And, even if it's already been sealed again, wouldn't this be a big enough event that V would have already known about the rifts? Though I guess they would have been studying at the time.

It appears that...for reasons known only to Rich...expanding and becoming massive and conspicuous was a trait only of Soon's destroyed Gate.

Two things that differentiate it from Lirian's and Dorukan's Gates:

1) It was originally the smallest.
2) It was the third destroyed.

If it's #2, that would imply that the rift behind Girard's Gate will grow even larger, or maybe at some uncertain point in the future will be the first to let the Snarl reach through it again!

...oh, wait.

How would we know if it had? Maybe that's why the Elves took so long to commit to help the Azurites.

It also may be the furthest away from the inner planet - it certainly is a heck of a lot further out than the one in the desert. So maybe the growth is constrained by local gravity.

Didn't Redcloak say the Azure City rift slowed its pace of growth over time? It's certainly possible Lirian's did the same.

EDIT: Also, it seems like Lirian's Rift was pretty isolated from civilization, so even if it grew, maybe nobody has noticed. (Dorukan's may be experiencing the same thing.)

Another alternative: once breached, all rifts experience accelerated grow up to the size of the largest one, and then slow down their growth. Azure rift grew quickly because it was the smallest and, as RC mentioned, then slowed when it got to a certain size.

It's so unimportant that the Order flew right over it on their way to the current plotline. Best just not to think about it.

If the elves can't solve it, then it can't be solved.
As V.

Seriously, they should thought about sealing it again. Then we wouldn't be in this mess.

It requires epic spellcasters to do, which the order doesn't have.

You know I wonder if Lirian and Dorukan left copies or scrolls of their spell anywhere, these would be useful.

Not the order, Azurites, Elves and their allies.

Actually for what we know, there may be only one epic spellcaster in all the oots world in the present day.

They don't have epic spellcasters either. Heck, the azurites even before being annihilated didn't have a single caster higher level than the Order at the time.

V seemed to think their Master could defeat the mother dragon without much trouble so even accounting for V's questionnable sate of mind at the moment I think they're the only character other than Xyon who might be epic...

...As of now. We mustn't forget Redcloak goes into a XP-factory daily and was already fairly high level before.

Malack had an ECL of 21, and it would not surprise me one bit if his comrades were Epic. Not that it matters - even if Miron was Epic, and had Epic spell slots, Malack certainly did not. His highest-level spell slots were only 6th-level.

You can't make scrolls of epic-level spells.

Xykon was apparently able to learn the Cloister spell from Dorukan's notes or just from the headband, but that only let him spend one of his own epic-level spells known slots on it, already qualifying to cast it as he did.
