View Full Version : Kermit the Garden Gnome - A truly awful build as campaign idea

Sometimes I have these fits of madness to share.

From the recesses of my tiny mind I bring you:

Kermit the Garden Gnome!

Kermit is a gnome who had dreams of immortality that had something to do with green. So he became a warblade/focused specialist illusionist (gnome sub lvl)/green star adept with still spell and using the granted low level illusionist gnome spells as still spells at the level they would be for non-gnomes. After maxing out green star adept Kermit was visited by and awakened by a jade Phoenix mage. So that was what the green-tinged dreams of immortality were about. Oops! Still you have got to see the funny side.

Now I kinda want to make this guy as a semi-useless yet colourful npc ally.

Warblade 1/wizard 2/warblade 2/gsa 10/Jpm 5. Lots of diamond mind stuff. I like the saving throw ones and the touch attack one. Maybe even spend a feat to get the fort save one as insurance vs disintegrate. Another feat later could snag Hearing the air. For the desert wind stuff maybe the stance that makes one immune to fire (that’s how they got the T1000!). If necessary he can use empower strike (emerald strike) to empower repair serious damage, for extra uselessness.

So assuming I bring in 20 level Kermit as a dmnpc, at what party levels would level 20 Kermit be an asset (I mean he would be a scene-stealer if added to a level 1 party), at what level average, and at what level dead weight?

It could even be a campaign hook. The followers of the Souldrake have arranged to trick/distract various incarnations of the Jade Phoenix Mages so that they cannot get powerful enough to enact the rite of waking on each other. Thus if the demon princes are not defeated soon, then while the JPMs will still reincarnate, they will not remember who they were and thus will not remember their mission to stop the Souldrake from escaping their prison. Assuming no epic levels and no retraining rules, Kermit would be a classic example of such a victim. He is a Jade Phoenix Mage but will never be a Jade Phoenix Master. Yes, that is right. I have actually made the suckiness of the Green Star Adept a campaign plot point.

Thus Kermit has to find and train and equp *our PC heroes* to, first, stop the followers of the Souldrake, and, second, to defeat the Souldrake once and for all.
