So, in my next campaign, we are playing an all Elf Campaign, and the DM is saying that this will be more Role-play heavy, less combat oriented campaign. Each player is allowed 9,000gp to spend on Armor, Equipment, Tools, & Magic items, we are starting the Campaign at lvl 5. As we have been conversing between players, I feel like we are heading towards a Bard oriented party, where we all work at a tavern, but we have a Bard that is essentially a Rogue with music, a casual performance oriented bard, a more Damaging spell specializing bard (For when we actually have a battle), and me, I'm planning on playing a Master of Masks Bard (Once I reach lvl 6)

Complete Scoundrel, page 52 Master of Masks

Anyways, he currently has the Circlet of Persuasion (+3 to all Cha skill checks), Vestment of Many Styles, & Hat of Disguise (Allows user to cast Disguise self at will)(Flavored to be a functional mask at all times). I plan on going into the Master of Masks Prestige class at lvl 6. I've been looking around, but I cant seem to find any magic masks that I could get, and was wondering if there were any people out there that know of them. He has the Craft Wondrous Item feat, and that is how he is planning on getting the masks, by making them, but I need to have actual, legal, 3.5 core book, magical masks.

I would appreciate any help, and I am also open to recommendations for any other possible prestige classes I might play instead.

There are a bunch in the Magic Item Compendium. Your best bet however, is to talk your DM into allowing you to utilize the custom magic items rules in the DMG to combine various masks into one mask with Craft Wonderous Item. You may even be able to add other mask effects to your Persona Masks, as they are Magic items themselves.

Core? A quick check of the SRD's list of wondrous items gives only one result, the Mask of the Skull.

Outside of core?

Defenders of the Faith has the Mask of the Dead (speak with dead).

Dragon 294 has a different Mask of the Dead (lets undead pass as living).

Dragon 299 has the Fairy Mask.

Dragon Annual 2000 has the Skull Mask.

Oh! Actually, there was a similar thread that might help you from a couple of years ago...

Website wotc content I think but I recall there being a panther mask somewhere that made you jump harder.

There are a couple of MiC masks that weren't listed in the previous thread.

Crystal Mask of Mindarmor
Crystal Mask of Languages
Crystal Mask of Visual Insight

None of them give any bonuses to skills, or require any saving throws, so the Master of Masks ability isn't as nice; but they all still benefit from +2 CL (making them harder to dispel).

If it helps Pathfinder has a Mask Golem (https://www.aonprd.com/MonsterDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Mask%20Golem).

And yeah, agreeing that the custom magic item rules might be the best go-to.

Agreed. One of the posters in the previous thread suggested just re-fluffing anything that takes up the Face slot into a mask instead of goggles or whatever. There's no mechanical difference; the only thing that would be custom is that it would be a Mask of Minute Seeing, instead of Goggles of Minute Seeing. Same slot, same cost, same CL, same everything; only difference is it has "mask" in the title.

If your DM is worried about this being overpowering, he really shouldn't be. Master of Masks is not what you take if you're trying to break the game.

Yes indeed.

Hey all,

I'm looking for magic masks.

The Master of Masks (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070105a&page=3) PrC has the following class ability:

So far, I've found the following (I'm trying to avoid custom magic items, if possible):

Crystal Mask of Detection (MIC p.90) +2 skill check
Crystal Mask of Discernment (MIC p.90) +2 skill check
Crystal Mask of Dread (MIC p.91) +2 skill check
Crystal Mask of Insight (MIC p.91) +2 skill check
Crystal Mask of Knowledge (MIC p.91) +2 skill check
Crystal Mask of Psionic Craft (MIC p.92) +2 skill check
Fanged Mask (MIC p.99) +2 DC
Mask of Lies (MIC p.115) +2 skill check
Mask of Mastery (MIC p.193) +2 DC
Mask of the Skull (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#maskoftheSkull) +2 DC
Mask of the Tiger (MIC p.200) +2 skill check
Moonstone Mask (MIC p.118) +2 skill check
Raptor's Mask (MIC p.210) +2 skill check

...any others?

Cheers - T

There are a number of masks in Dragon Magazine issues. http://www.aeolia.net/dragondex/magic-items.html

Nice list.

From that, I see some items have been re-printed in hardcover books, like the Ebon Mask (Dragon Magic, p.100). However that specific mask is not improved by this PrC feature -- it gives you water breathing, resist 5 acid, and +1 natural armor. No skills, no spell-like abilities.

Magic of Faerun has a few that weren't reprinted in the MIC: Mirror Mask, Moonstone Mask, White Skull Mask.

Races of Faerun has Mask of the Implacable.

Unapproachable East has a bunch: 8 different Hathran Masks and Shaporyl's Mask.

Dragon Magic has Ebon Mask.
