View Full Version : Healing as a monk?

I had an idea for a monk character who learned to use ki as a type of spiritual medicine and adapted it for combat use out of necessity. Are there any feats, archetypes or whatnot from either 3.5 or Pathfinder that could give a monk access to healing? Or, barring that, ways to make the Heal skill useful while a monk? This would be for a Pathfinder campaign, but 3.5 and 3rd party material are allowed.

Broken One substitution levels from Champions of Valor give you Lay on Hands instead of Still Mind.

The draconic vigor aura (granted by the Draconic Aura feat) would allow you to heal all allies up to half health in a radius.

It's not an actual monk feat, but you could fluff it as ki healing.

There is also the Monk of the Healing Hand (http://aonprd.com/ArchetypeDisplay.aspx?FixedName=Monk%20Monk%20of%2 0the%20Healing%20Hand)archetype.

There are two unrelated Feats that make Heal a bigass heal.

Healer's Hands (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/conduit-feats/healers-hands-conduit/) and Incredible Healer (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/incredible-healer/).

Combined, they give you a 1d20+[Heal Skill Modifier]+[Knowledge:Planes Ranks (Usually level)]+[Wisdom Modifier (basic function of Heal skill)] X/day (where X= Number of Kn. Planes ranks).

My Shaman can heal a minimum of 47 HP in combat with this check. You can also Take 10 out of combat.

Self-Medicating feat (Dragon #354):
once each day you may heal 1d4 + your Intelligence modifier points of damage (miniumum 1) by stitching up wounds and applying various alchemical unguents Performing this healing requires 1 minute of uninterrupted work and a healing kit (using up one use of the kit).Note: despite the feat's name, RAW doesn't, actually, says you should heal just your own wounds... :smallwink:

Touchstone feat (Sandstorm), Healing Waters of Abu-Ima site: cure serious wounds or remove disease SLA 1/day

Holy Monk variant (Dragon #310) got Turn Undead, thus - access to Sacred Healing [divine] feat (Complete Divine): fast healing 3 in 60' burst for 1 + Cha mod. rounds

Feat in Pathfinder let's you recover people's ki (including yours) off a channel energy.

Just got to find a way to turn ki into channel energy uses in a method that uses less ki than your channel energy could give you back.

I saw someone ages ago claiming that as a build and he could heal forever due to it. But that was at a convention so I never got a good look at his character sheet.

Also, Pressure Point Strike in Dragon #336 - by spending some amount of daily Stunning Fist usages, you may remove such conditions as Stunned, Sickened, Fatigued, Paralysis, Blindness, Deafness, or affect with Delay Poison/Neutralize Poison

Dragon #346 have "Wholeness of Others" ACF, which make Wholeness of Body (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/monk.htm#wholenessofBody) to work on other creatures (only!)

Martial Study and Martial Stance feats from Tome of Battle give you access to several maneuvers from the Devoted Spirit discipline that can provide healing. Or dip into Crusader, then eventually go into Shadow Sun Ninja to stay "monk like."

Or if you can cross-platform, Martial Training from Path of War for more maneuvers faster at higher IL. PoW also has the Silver Crane discipline for some healing, but IIRC it is severely delayed/less than Devoted Spirit.

Along those lines, you could get two healing side effects(+2d4 per melee attack) on a Sculpt Self of Martial Spirit Stance and use one of the various ways to enchant your unarmed strikes with Wrathful while also taking a 1 level dip in Vitalist to move the healing around. I did this on a character once as the only one with a heal at all. It worked out fairly well. No one dropped unconscious for long. Probably wouldn't hold up well later levels, but at least Wrathful Vitalist lets you scale a little bit.
