I´m making an alchemist themed wizard and wanted your feedback on whether or not this homebrewed spell is balanced? The idea spell is basically a lesser fireball that sacrifices initial damage for extra damage over time.

Alchemical flames:
1st- level transmutation
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (alchemist’s supplies, 50 gp)
Duration: Instantaneous
You throw a vial containing volatile chemical reagents that burst into roaring green flames upon hitting the ground. Choose an area that you can see within 60 feet. Creatures in a 15 foot cube must pass a dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 fire damage, or half as much on a succesful save. Flammable materials in the area ignite, and creatures that fail their saving throws catch on fire and take an extra d4 fire damage at the end of each of their turns until a creature spends an action to douse the flames.

At higher levels: The initial damage is improved by 1d6 fire damage and the area is increased by 5 feet, width, length and height. Additionally, the damage taken at the end of each round is increased by d4 fire damage for each other spell level beyond 1st.
