I have a fly speed equal to my land speed (30ft) what are some good magic items I can pick up to increase my fly speed? Anything that applies to ground speed will also increase my fly speed by the same amount (or more if specified).

Are you sure about that? Depending on where the flight speed came from, this may not be an accurate statement. If it is though, haste will net you a double increase, since it increases all your speeds by 30ft, so you'd get a double up bonus on your flight speed from 30ft to 90ft. Snowshoes is a longer duration (1 hour/level), 10ft speed increase version, it increases all movement speeds by 10ft, so you'd double up for 50ft flight

Is possibly Outsider Wings or something worded similarly, I suspect as it sounds similar to what my current character has


You gain wings (feathered if an aasimar, batlike if a tiefling), allowing you to fly at your land speed (average maneuverability). A medium or heavy load that would reduce your land speed reduces your fly speed a proportionate amount.

I've wondered how changing the landspeed works with it too, since for stuff like haste, if your landspeed goes up at the same time as your flight speed goes up, do you then add the landspeed to the flight speed giving you a double bonus? If Flight=x(flight), and Land =x(land) and x=x,

does adding Haste mean x(flight)+30
or
x(flight)+30 + the 30 that would go to x(land)

Haste is one of the examples where we do know what happens - as your second equation can be expanded:

x(flight)+30(enhancement) + the 30(enhancement) that would go to x(land)

Enhancement bonuses never stack - therefore the second equation is invalid.

This also means that if you get a 30' enhancement bonus to your landspeed (only) and a 10' enhancement bonus to your flight speed, if you flight speed is derived from your land speed then you only get +30' as the +10 does not stack with it.

More generally I would say that as bonuses from the same source never stack something that adds to both land speed and a speed derived from land speed will only add once to the derived speed.
There are counter arguments, but I personally don't agreee with them - though I would not claim to be rules definitive on this.

I always liked Essence of the Raptor from the spell compendium. It sets your land speed to 60ft, which always works well with flight based on land speed.

Another option is Cloud wings. It is level 2 and has a duration of 1/hour per level. The Drow house insignia has a caster level of 12 and a somewhat cheaper cost than normal for 3rd level spells. Extended cloud wings in that item has a 24 hour duration.

Do recall that increasing flight speed if your maneuverability isn't at least Good is a two-edged sword, since if your maneuverability is Average or worse, you have to move at least half your fly speed each round or else stall out and fall/land. Needing to move a minimum of 15' isn't that hard; needing to move a minimum of 60' is more challenging.

If you can become a half-dragon centaur somehow you get a base land speed of 50 and a flight speed of double that. The half-dragon part maxes out at 120 though, so maybe just stick to centaur and find other ways to increase speed?

Grace, Footsteps of the Divine, Wings of Swift Flying, Fly Like an Arrow (Dragon Mag, and you need to be a dragon or have a feat to cast it), and Cloud Wings. I think there's another one that also increases maneuverability, but I forget what it's called.

For Magic Items:

Boots of Striding and Springing will get you a +10 ft enhancement bonus and +5 to Jump. Sandals of the Light Step (Magic Item Compendium) also give you a +10 ft enhancement, as well as Pass Without Trace and a water walking effect. The Quickness armor property (MiC, flat 5000gp) gives you +5 ft enhancement bonus.

A Crystal of Alacrity (MiC) is a notable item that gives you a +5ft bonus if placed on medium or heavy armor. The bonus is minor, but what sets it apart is that it's a Morale bonus - meaning it will stack with the more common Enhancement bonuses.

If you don't have the Phoenix Cloak (MIC) you should grab that because as mentioned above, maneuverability is key, and that gives you perfect.

Rapid Wrath is a weapon from Ghostwalk (unfortunately 3.0) but it doubles the speed of the creature that carries it, (doesn't have to be wielded!).

Footsteps of the Divine (CC120-121)is a spell that will increase your speed as an unnamed bonus.
