So a Paladin in my game saved the party with a cavalry charge using nothing but shields. My character is a Bard, and thinks the event deserves it's own special name, to be remembered through history.

So as the title says, let's come up with some good, catchy, names for a shield based Cavalry charge into combat!

How about just naming it after the paladin? Bob's Charge, or whatever.

I like the tortoise =)

What happened in this charge? Could it be called The Ram! or some such?

Something about an avalanche or rockslide should probably work. Something that emphasizes momentum and mass.

The Avalanche of Steel maybe?

I like Paladin's Panzer Charge, and the concept of Avalanche

Hmmm.

How about The Paladin's Avalanche Charge, or The Panzer Avalanche.

Elric's* Avalanche Charge

*Insert appropriate name here. You can also go with some alliterative.

That being said, many famous battles or parts of battles are famous on the basis that it wildly successful despite the odds, or everybody died because it was stupid but they did anyways because honour.

You could generate a list of words that evoke a shield and a list that evoke a charge and mix and match til you get something cool. If there's a specific piece of heraldry on the shields that could work too.

For instance, for shield:
Shield
Aegis
Guardian
Protector
Lion Crest (if they had lions on their shields)
etc.

For charge:
Charge
Strike
Gambit
Avalanche
etc.

"The Aegis Gambit"
Or
"Strike of the Guardians"
Or
"The Charge of the Lion's Crest"
Or
"Guardian Avalanche"
etc.

Why didn't the bad guys just spear the horse leaving the paladin useless on the ground and possibly trapped under his dead horse?

Where did this take place? A lot of famous feats of heroism are named after the location where they happened, like the Charge of Icingford or the Delivery at Pinkbridge.

Ooh, alternatively, if your bard is a fan of puns, then you could play on the nature of a shield bash by calling it the Bashful Barrage
