Energy resistance and stacking

If a character wears two items that say grant fire resistance 5, does that mean the character has fire resist 10? or just 5?

Is it table dependent answer?

What about spells that grant same thing?

Unless something explicitly says it stacks, then in all cases you just take the higher number of them. In this case, it's still just 5
