So my friend is a summoner and first time player. He asked he for some pointers in last night's game but if have never played a summoner. If you guys could help with equipment, feats, and eidolon ideas it would be greatly appreciated

P.S. this is pathfinder

Summoner is pretty self-contained (assuming this is the "Chained" Summoner?); it's hard to go wrong with one. Focus your feats on improving your summoning (duh) - so Augment Summoning, Superior Summons, Expanded Summon Monster, and perhaps Summon Good/Evil Monster. And that's pretty much all you've got resources for - perhaps a bit of metamagic, item creation or some such. But focus on summoning. Peruse Pathfinder Summoning Guide (https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dZ5SBQMS1Yi6531tXOkKE_rmXEwn4VFacOEQKiHA5E/view#) for more details on which summons to use, all the feats and all the items that can help in that regard, etc.

Get your eidolon a weapon + weapon proficiency if you want to go that route (natural attacks are really good though and you have Greater Magic Fang as a spell known so that saves some cash), stat enhancers, etc. Same with your summoner proper - basic armor (Mithril Shirt is obviously the best and only 1000gp), Charisma boosters, key wands, etc. Far as eidolon goes, pouncers and area controllers are generally the best option so either get lots of attacks + pounce on a quadroped chassis, or get reach and weapon proficiencies on a biped chassis.

This is pretty short. Peruse the Summoner's Handbook - A Guide to Pathfinder Summoner (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?184592-3-P-The-Summoner-s-Handbook-A-Guide-to-the-Pathfinder-Summoner) (note, a different thread than the previous link) for more details on things including Eidolon builds, equipment, etc. RPGBot Handbook (https://rpgbot.net/pathfinder/characters/classes/summoner/) exists for the class too but as usual, it's very barebones and far less comprehensive than the one linked above (which in and of itself lacks much of the newer material).
