Sam

During the conversation, Sam had been working of all the paperwork, and reports that followed working on a client.

"Speaking of doing our jobs safely, what could we have done better, or should have tried to do differently on this last pick up? I thought we did ok. Although I can see where having a fire extinguisher, and some kind of fast metal cutting tools might be useful in the future. I and believe some mentioned getting a camera for Flip"

Lucky

Tapping the monofilament chainsaw on his belt, Lucky grins.

"Scout's rule number one: Always be prepared. I've seen enough car crashes to know that sometimes you need to cut people free. I've got some cuffs, too, just in case we have a recalcitrant client. Oh, and these aren't just for show," He says, pointing to his eyes. "They record too, if you need that sort of thing. I can also see in a number of spectra, so that may come in useful if normal vision leaves us hanging."

Jake nods at Lucky, "That probably would have helped, though we had to be careful to not hurt the client while getting her out. I've got some cuffs in my bag, too. Out of habit, I guess." He chuckles, "I've even a got a plasteel pair sitting on a shelf at home. Hopefully, if some BTL-head breaks in while I'm at work, they'll have the good sense to put them on and wait for me to get back." He taps his temple in a similar fashion to Lucky, "Yeah, I got replacements myself, when I was promoted to SWAT. Now, I tend to record my shifts whole and turn the vid in at the end - makes debriefing and paperwork a lot easier."

Though it's still a pain in the ass. If I start doing it now, I'm likely to just fall asleep from boredom.

Darryl

Last time Darryl saw so many sets of cuffs in one place was back in Georgia when he was volunteering at St. Josephs. There was this woman who had an addiction that involved cuffs. Oiy, did she need therapy.

When the talk turns to cybereyes, Darryl zones back out. Nothing compares to being able to see Astral, I don't care how many spectra you can see.

[Incoming message from Dispatch]
[Status change: Jupiter to Retrieval]
[And here I was just about to suggest a coffee break.]

The news coverage has already started to get grossly repetitive, and the Lone Star feeds are settling down again. The orange dot appears on the map along route 90, about 15km from the standby point. The particular area is in about the middle of the stretch along the line that separates Renton from Redmond. It will take just shy of 4 minutes to get there.

Jacob

Seeing the orange dot blink into action, Jake sighs, "Guess break's over. Time to get to work." He checks his bag and closes it and pats his uniform's pockets, starting from the top and finishing with the two Predators on his left and right sides. The bag goes on him, hanging just below the Alpha on his right side. Alright, all good and ready, with plenty of ammo.

Finally, he puts on his black helmet and speaks again to the group, "Lucky, I know you haven't been through an extraction with us yet, so here's how we've done things. When we get there, we will evaluate the situation and I'll get the door open as we're landing. Sam is going to go out with the scanner, the stretcher and his medical gear. I make sure he gets there, and unfold the stretcher." The last task is mentioned with the same seriousness as the rest of the plan.

Jake continues speaking to Lucky, "When Sam's all good and done, we get the client back to the chopper. Darryl deals with any magical problems and provides additional aid as necessary. Flip is our eye in the sky and our contact with any local authorities. With you here, we can have a good two man team getting Sam to the client. I don't know if you caught it in your initial briefing, but the scanner only detects the client within a fairly close distance, so sometimes we have to do a bit of searching for our man. If you have any ideas or questions before we get there, ask away."

When the beep and the flashing dot starts, Darryl finishes the prayer he was in the middle of with an "Amen". He then double checks the little gear he has and grabs to the riot shield and holds it up to make sure there aren't any blood spots in the way of his vision. {If so, he wipes it up so he has clear line of sight}

He then pulls up a map of the area on his commlink to see what is nearby and may be involved in the incident.

As part of the sharing of gear Sam added his, "I don't have any cyber, I did trick out my sunglasses, with various sensing imaging enhancement stuff. I also picked up a little camera that I attack to the glasses for documenting my work, it seems to be working ok. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't a budget buster either, maybe something like that would work for Flip?"

Before anyone had a chance to answer the alarm went off calling them back to work. Sam downed the last of his coffee, made sure the thermos was sealed and then made sure he had his medical stuff ready to go.

Jupiter is still about 3km out when the orange dot starts moving. It seems to be headed at high speed into Redmond. In this case, 'high speed' is still much slower than the helicopter can go, but it is very likely that the client is in a moving vehicle of some kind. It is following roads, so likely a land-based vehicle.

12:09am
Condition Serious - 6:34

As Jupiter catches up and the floor of the copter goes transparent, it looks like the client is in the lead vehicle of a chase. The lead vehicle is some sort of blue and black van that must be tricked out for speed, because it is barreling down the road at something like 140kmph. It is being chased by a white sedan. There is gunfire coming from the windows of both vehicles. Interestingly, both sides seem to be making at least a small effort to keep the gunfire between the two vehicles, and they are leaving incredibly minimal collateral damage in their wake.

Darryl, disconcerted about looking at such a massive fall clings more tightly to the riot shield(not that it would help). "Woowie".

Darryl watches the dots and vehicles as they maneuver around a bit to be sure which is which and then says, "Looks like da front car. That there bein' a bita good luck. Maybe ona us'all could get ona commlink and send a message to any open commlinks in that there front car, askem to pull over."

Darryl then adds, "I can easily blast the rear car wid The Power of the Lord. I spect a couple stunballs'll giv'em sumfin to thinkbout. Put da Fear of the Lord inta dem. Maybe end da chase."

If no one objects quickly, Darryl will start with a single stunball. Pause. See if they react, then hit them again.

Jake holds up his hand quickly after Darryl finishes proposing his idea, "Whoa! Hold on a second there. At the speed they're going, if anything distracts their driver, they're not going to make it out of that crash alive. That's not our job - they could have contracts too. I'll send out a warning, you keep your spell ready."

Jake activates his wired reflexes and quickly sends a broadcast message to any commlinks in the two vehicles below them, echoing them on their personal network so that all may see what he is sending.

[To the blue and black van and the white sedan.]
[This is DocWagon. We have a client in the blue and black van. While we are authorized to use lethal force in the retrieval of a client, it does not seem absolutely necessary at this time. Your cooperation will heavily influence if this situation escalates or not. We strongly suggest your two vehicles voluntarily disengage and stop, so that we may retreive our client without causing anyone undue harm. Consider this your free warning.]

Flip does his best to stay right above the van as it moves. "I could try to use Jupiter force the car off the pursuit too. I'm thinking either get between them or maybe just see how they react to a helicopter trying to land on them. Lucky winces at the idea of the chopper trying to land on or near a speeding car, even as a bluff. No matter how good their flyboy was, things went wrong, and when things went wrong, moving at high speed with multiple high velocity blades just above your head is not what you want to be doing.

"I'd really rather not have to explain why we had to carry our client back if that went wrong and wrecked our chopper, so I prefer Darryl's idea. Or Jake and I could try shooting them off the road, if that would be easier. It looks like this is going to get messy though." He says.

He suddenly jolts in his seat as he activates his wired reflexes, his fingers tapdancing rapidly on his knees as the boost kicks in. He pulls his gun from its holster and stands up,

"Alright, now I'm ready. Decisions? I say we give them 30 seconds to respond and then Jake and I blast them off the road if we can, and Darryl whips up some magic if that doesn't work. Does this chopper have guns? If it does, we could use those as a third option. I don't think endangering the transport would be a good idea, though." He says, his face calm, even though he is speaking much faster than before.

Darryl says to Jacob, "Yeet, 'K, I'll hold off on that there stunball. But, de Power of the Lord can be having great influence on the weak minded. I be thinking, us'all can magically suggest that the rear driver turn around and go home, wheel, me really."

Neither vehicle seems to be paying any heed whatsoever to Jacob's warning/request. The rear vehicle has tinted glass, and the two guns that were protruding from the two backseat windows have been withdrawn out of sight and the windows rolled up.

With the copter now flying backwards over the client vehicle so Darryl can see out the front to target the driver of the CorpSec car, Raphael suddenly stops what he's doing as the car's brakes squeal. It weaves a little and seems to be stopping and turning around.

[Flip, I don't really like flying backwards.]

As Flip lets the copter rotate back around to face forward, the rotor clips a nearby building, impacting it three times before he gets it clear.

In an effort to both be helpful and take his mind off of crashing helicopters, Jacob offers a demonstration of how to open the stretcher and close it. The main thing seems to be how exactly one flicks their wrists and the timing of said flicking. It looks like a skill that requires practice to get right reliably.

The van below slows down some, then swerves rather violently the right, then to the left, cutting across the road. Traffic is light, and no one happens to crash into anyone else, but the van skids sideways and slams into the building. The bottom floor of that particular building happens to be a hot tub showroom, and the van crashes right through the glass, disappearing from sight.

As Flip brings Jupiter the rest of the way down to the street, Jacob slides open the door. Darryl peers out and casts his spell. Now that Jupiter is low enough to see inside the building, it looks like the van has been totaled, or at least very badly damaged. There is a man in a regular camo suit just getting to his hands and knees and shaking his head. He has an SMG strapped to his back, and a some grenades on his belt.

Darryl, Flip:The man in the trenchcoat turns and sends his own spell back at Darryl. Darryl's will is strong enough to deny the spell's effect. It looks like the spirit is doing something, too, but exactly what is unknown.

The shaking helicopter fails to instill any further faith in the reliability of modern machinery and Jake finds himself clenching his hands until the chopper finally lands. Once it is clear that there are hostiles in the area, Jacob feels himself switching into a familiar routine. Since it sounds this is mostly a magical problem, he keeps to the plan he outlined.

Keeping his Alpha ready, he stays inside the chopper and coordinates the rescue effort, starting by using the one advantage they have - their comms.

[To the team]
[Proceeding as planned. Darryl - the spirit is yours to handle, unless you think we can hurt it. Lucky and Flip - we need to find that mage and knock him out. If you see him, let me know and I'll back you up. Sam, we're going to need to get those people out and get them stable. Get your gear and weapon ready.]

[Alright boys, you've got a hostile mage and a spirit nearby. If any of you are still awake, be careful and don't shoot our asses - we're all wearing the uniforms. And before you do something sudden and crazy, let us know - we've all got itchy trigger fingers here.]

As I don't have access to my sheet or my books, here is roughly what I am doing. Using comms to talk to those guys and our team, and observing in detail looking for this mage in the trench coat from the chopper (ready to transmit the image when I see it). Flip takes 5 boxes physical damage. 1 point of Edge used for Flip. The spirit seems to still be focused on the man now sitting up and looking around.

The man now sitting up and looking around shakes his head a little and get himself to his feet. He keeps shaking his head a little as he moves back towards the driver's door of the van and yanks the door open.

Jupiter's rotors slow down precipitously as Flip shuts the copter down. They will likely stop moving completely within 10 seconds or so. The illumination in the body section dims to about half intensity.

Darryl, Flip:Raphael persists in his attacks on the mage, managing to score a glancing blow that scrapes some of the misty flesh from the mage's face. This is probably what causes that mage to turn his attention to the spirit instead of pounding on Flip and Darryl again. They get involved in a "physical" fight, trading blows. The mage is obviously stronger than the spirit, but it will certainly keep him occupied for a short time.

Flip, Jacob, and Lucky are all on the ground outside the copter at this point, with their respective abilities and cyberware active. 1x Wide Short Burst burst at the dog. (-2 to Dog's dice pool).

I am firing from the Alpha, with (sadly) gel rounds.
I have Agility 5, Automatics 4.
My weapon has Recoil Compensation of 2.
It is Smartlinked (+2).

Given no other modifiers, my first burst should be:
5+4+2+2 -4 -5(+2) = 4 dice
My second burst is:
5+4+2 -4 -2(+1) = 6 dice

Both attacks have a DV of 6+4=10 before any hits are added.
The Alpha has an Armor Piercing factor of -1.
The gel rounds add +2 DV (12 total) and +2 to the creature's armor.
They also reduce Body by 2 for calculating Knockdown.

EDIT: Clarification of the 2nd Init Pass actions.

Flip growls a response to Darryl, "No way. That fragger has been hitting me so I'm gonna kick his ass right back!" His finger points at the mage as he speaks. He then charges forward toward the astral mage, as he does so, he is visibly stumbling a little from the damage he's taken. Once he gets there, he begins swinging at what appears to be most others to be just air in front of him.

Pass 1: Speak and charging attack on mage.

After looking over the rules again, it seems like this is a viable option for Flip, but I'm not sure how wise it is. I guess only time will tell.

Condition Serious - 5:52

Flip goes running up to…nothing. From Jacob, Lucky, and Sam's perspective, anyway. He charges empty air, but clearly tries to slam into something specific. He is clearly involved in a fight with something now, but it's a little eerie to only be able to see half of the fight. Darryl and Flip can both tell that this mage is quick and experienced, not really distracted by Flip's interjection into the fight.

Darryl's spell seems to affect the mage, if minutely. To him and Flip, it looks like the mage has been slashed across the arm, and a small amount of silvery 'blood' sprays across the nearby astral space. All Jacob, Lucky, and Sam can see, though, is the dog lunging at the man getting the van's driver to the ground. It bites and snaps and growls, but the man shoves his shoulder into the thing, taking it off guard and pushing the toothy maw away.

"Ivy, where the frag are you?" He shouts this at the air as he reaches back and grabs a stick off the floor of the van's front seat. When he pulls it out of the black sheath, the stick turns out to be a sword, covered with something dark that makes it not flash in the meager light.

Flip can only watch in frustration as the mage rises up 30 meters into the air in an eyeblink. Before Raphael has a chance to follow him up, a surge of the mage's will rolls over both Flip and Raphael, but it seems to be weaker than the one before, and neither has any difficulty shrugging it off.

The dog and the guy with the sword, now fighting in earnest, seem to be nearly even in their skill with their respective modes of attack, though the man's arm is drooping a little, possibly a lingering effect of the crash.

Jacob's first burst is just wide as the dog lunges unexpectedly, and the Alpha jams. The lunge carries it directly into Lucky's shots, but the bullets bounce harmlessly off the dog's flesh.

Raphael zooms up to continue tangling with the mage.

Sam's shouts at the dog are, indeed, quite commanding. The first seems to be fully ignored, but the second may well be the reason that it disappears from sight. Darryl and Flip, if they care to look, can see its astral form moving quickly away, through the back of the building.

Just as a note, the increase to DV from burst fire does not apply to the comparison of DV vs. Armor. You can thank L_E for noticing that rule snippet.
Jacob's gun is jammed with raspberry, which clearly indicates Lonestar is nearby. He can clear it for resumed use with the remaining complex action from this round, thus having it ready for next round.
End of round.
The astral mage is fighting 30 meters in the air with Darryl's astral spirit.
The dog went astral again and ran - it is not visible to anyone.
Jacob, Lucky, and Sam are all still with the copter, and Darryl is inside it. Flip is about 10 meters away, probably looking up, though he technically has two passes that he could retro.
Combat is sort of over for now. Darryl and Flip can both still see the mage, and things may yet happen, so keep plans in the short term, even if you can't/won't affect the current foe.

Jacob

Jake swears as he first misses and then hears the clink sound of his gun jamming, as a little red X helpfully pops up via the smartlink to inform him of the problem. The dog does seem to run away after Sam yells at it, which means they've got a bit of a breather. He begins moving to the van, while clearing his Alpha. "Alright, let's make this quick before that dog comes back, or the nice boys in the sedan show up to this party. We're moving everybody into the chopper on the double. Unless Sam says they're about to die, they're going. Speaking of which - Flip, you ain't looking too hot, don't push yourself."

I want to do the following actions:
1) Clear the Alpha.
2) Help move the injured into the chopper.
3) Take out the Predator loaded with gel rounds and reload it with my Stick n Shock rounds. Because halving armor and stunning people/dogs is clearly the right way to handle things at this point.
4) Keep watch for any approaching danger/people.

As soon as it seems like everything is settled, at least a little bit, Sam jogs in to start working. The client that was assigned to the team is still inside the van, but the guy with the sword says, "Raze's fragged up bad." He nods down to the body he pulled out of the front seat while keeping his sword ready and his attention on the surrounding area. The wounded man, a human in a bulky black jacket, is bleeding profusely from a head wound, and is unconscious.

Darryl peers out of the copter and can see the mage overhead, fighting with Raphael still. The spell rolls right over the mage without affecting him. Before Darryl has a chance to try another spell, the mage tears Raphael in half and vacates the area very fast.

After clearing his gun, Jacob follows behind Sam to get to the injured. Someone is issuing a low groan of the pain variety from inside the van. "Anyone get the number of that real bright light?"

"Frag me. Leg's broke, I think."

Flip's cursory examination of the rotor shows damage to both ends, though it is neither irreparable nor devastating. It will probably make Jupiter a little tougher to fly, and the copter's AI will undoubtedly complain about it, but it isn't enough to go back to base for.

Darryl's spirit has been dispersed. Darryl takes the one box of damage from drain.
The astral mage has left the area.
The damage to the rotor will impose a -1 to pilot tests and reduce top speed by 5km/h.

After clearing the gun and checking inside, Jake listens to the status report from Sam. He reloads his Alpha and swaps a clip in one of his Predators. Perceptive people will note that the unloaded clip has a green mark on it, just like the clip in the Alpha, while the new clip has a blue mark on it. He pats the reloaded pistol and nods at Lucky, "I'll see about giving that dog something to worry about if it comes back."

He thinks about the situation before replying to Sam and the group.

[To the team]
[Flip, after you check out the rotor, get us an ETA on the other teams. If it's going to be more than three minutes, we'll move all the clients into the chopper one by one - they'll be easier to defend in one place, than in two. If they are about to get here, Sam will stabilize all of them and we'll get them ready for transport. Either way, our man is going into the chopper first. The heavily injured guy is second, if we move. Lucky, one of us will remain outside at all times while carrying patients. We will alternate carrying with Sam. You can carry first.]

While waiting for a response, he does a quick survey of the area, looking for possible avenues of approach for both the DW vans and any potential hostiles. He also glances in the direction the dog ran off to fairly frequently. After he has satisfied himself with having a good understanding of the area they are sitting in, he asks the man with the sword, "You gonna need a lift?"

ETA for one van, Hopscotch, is 1 minute. The second van, Topsy-Turvy, will take three.

The guy with the sword looks back at the van, then at Jacob. "Yeah," he chuckles a little bit, "I'm pretty sure I'll need a ride." He sheathes the sword and starts assisting with pulling the other two guys out of the van. One is a rather large ork, and the other is a beefy human. All four are men and wearing black armored jackets. Inside the van is a cornucopia of weaponry, certainly drool-worthy if one likes ballistic weapons.

Sam begins working on the guy outside the van, Raze, taking just a short time to cover up the gash with bright pink synthaskin, and injecting some sort of liquid into his neck. Raze doesn't wake up, but is stable when Sam moves to the next guy.

As soon as both men are out of the van, The sword guy grabs a bag and starts loading weapons into it.

"What the hell happened to Ivy?" (the client)
"I dunno. She's not here." (the sword guy)
"Frag it! What the frag point is there to having astral cover if she bails when we need her?"
"She's never bailed before. Maybe something was up with her body. Where'd she park it?" (the ork)
"I dunno. Someplace in Auburn, I think."

By this time, Sam has dealt with the client, doing all he can for him, which isn't a whole lot. He moves on to the ork, yanking his leg straight with no warning, which elicits a sharp grunt that is quickly cut off. "Geez, doc, warn a guy when you're gonna do that."

The client is assisted to the copter quickly. He opts to sit on the floor rather than take up the patient bed. As Sam is working on the ork's leg, the white sedan turns the nearby corner, headed straight for the copter. Just a few seconds behind it, a shiny white DocWagon van turns a different corner and starts barreling down the road.

About one minute passed. If anyone wants to do anything not previously declared in that minute, go ahead.
The white car is 40 meters away, and moving at high speed. It looks to be on a collision course with Jupiter.
A DW van is about 45 meters away, also moving at high speed. If it maintains its current line, it will pass by the copter on the right (the accident scene is on the left).

After inspecting the damages, Flip would have started Jupiter back up so they could get going quickly once the patients were all where they needed to be. He rarely shuts down during a pick-up, but wanted a chance to look at the damage, kind of hard to do with the blades spinning. He would also have checked on the ETA of the ground units and reported back to the group.

[I'm taking us Jupiter to the air again before we get smacked into by that fragging white sedan. Why won't they just get out of here! I'm taking anyone who is inside up, you'll have to take care of this on your own.] With a second or two for those that want to make a quick dive in or out, Flip then takes back to the sky, hanging out only about 30 meters above the street.

Simple Action: Narrow Burst (+2 DV, -2 penalty compensated by recoil)

If it has stopped, shooting out the front or back window, whichever large window is closer, as per the destroying barriers rules.

"If you're breathing, you're shooting." He tosses the ork a sniper rifle that has been fully tricked out.
"Hey, be nice with Vera." The ork catches it deftly and drops to his belly, bracing the stand of the gun on the floor and setting up to take a shot. And accidentally kicking the medkit so it goes skittering across the floor, farther into the shop. The sword guy crouches behind one of the hot tubs, holding up an assault rifle.

The DocWagon van also starts squealing some tires as the brakes are put on.
[Incoming message from Hopscotch]
[Heh. Thanks for the heads up. We'll give 'em some trouble right back.]

Jacob lines up a shot and follows the car's movement, taking a shot at the front tire as soon as he can. The tire blows, and the car, which was already stopping, swerves to the left some and spins around as it stops.

Darryl's spell has no visible effect.

The van breezes right past the sedan to come to a stop a little beyond it. As it stops, the doors int eh back swing open. Although no one can see anyone there, something small comes flying out of the back, landing just short of the car and rolling under it. The van doors close again.

Between Lucky, the sword guy, and Jacob, all the windows on the front and passenger side are quickly shot out of the car. It looks like everyone inside is ducking down.

Sam scrambles back for the medkit and there is an explosion under the white car. It erupts into a ball of fire, and everyone with Vision Enhancement can pick out some small body parts flying from the car.

[Client transfer request received and being processed. If Hopscotch has the scene secure, take your guy and go.]

The back door of the van opens back up and three women in DocWagon uniforms step out.
"Crispy critters," says one, a tall human blonde with short hair who is carrying an Alpha. She makes a fist that she claps together with one of the other's fist in a gesture of victory. That other woman is also human, about the same height, around 6 feet, and has shoulder length bright purple hair in a ponytail. The third is an elf with a light green buzzcut. She has a stretcher in her right hand a predator strapped to her left hip.
"Hey," the elf calls out as all three start crossing the street, a hand to her mouth to amplify the sound over the fire, "where're the bodies!?"

"Drek. Star'll be showing up soon." The ork looks to the sword guy. "'Kosh, we gotta get outta here."
"Yeah, I know. Can't rush the Doc, though." The sword guy, apparently named 'Kosh, shrugs as he stashes the gun he's holding back into the bag, then crosses over to take the rifle from the ork and stow it in the bag, too.

Relaxing a bit in his seat, Jacob feels the world speed up a bit as he turns off his wired reflexes. He chuckles slightly at Darryl's response as he himself considers the idea briefly. Moonlighting. Nice way of putting it. Sounds like a quick way to get reacquainted with the Star.

After a pause, Jake answers politely, putting just a little bit of emphasis on the last word, "I've just got this gig, but it's looking to keep me pretty busy. Really, I'm not in it for the nuyen - I just wanna help people. Legally."

Though he does smile and shake he head while thinking about Kosh's comments. Gotta meet this Cooshee sometime. Me, a shadowrunner, heh. It's all frosty that he thinks we've got the skills, but its not for me. Hell, my family already thinks this job is below the family's good name. What would they say if I started running the shadows?

The dropoff goes smoothly, as expected. Cake turns out to be a really hot elf woman in a very short, tight, low-cut and strapless red vinyl dress and matching three inch spike thigh high boots. She is wearing blood red lipstick and has a 1 cm wide tattoo of a snake that runs from the outside corner of her left eye down her cheek, her neck, and her chest, disappearing into her dress. The tattoo writhes if you watch it.

DeeDee's is a clean, well-lit place, but tiny. It is part of a small strip mall, the rest of which is closed at this hour. There is a Star cruiser in the parking lot, and a cop inside: a female troll in a beat cop uniform. She is sitting at one of the six booths along the wall with a cup of coffee and a half-eaten donut. The abstracted nature of her gaze suggests that she is probably doing something with her commlink.

There is a cute redheaded girl in a pink shirt and a messy white apron - human, late teens - behind the display counter that takes up half the place. Inside the display counter are trays full of donuts and muffins of numerous varieties, mostly traditional. The coffee machines, which are of the variety that make only regular coffee, are on the back counter, and there is a swinging door to some kind of back room area.

"Hi, Flip," the girl smiles, which gives her cheeks dimples, and waves a little. "Oh, you got new people, huh?" She has a green plastic nametag with 'Geena' on it in white block letters.

Jacob is happy to quickly check out Raze and Kosh's doc, though tries to not be too obvious about it. Guess there are some perks to this job. I should tell mom there are plenty of nice girls where I work. Just can't bring any of them home to dinner.

Amused at Darryl's innocence, Jacob clarifies a bit more, now that the client is off the chopper, "Darryl, running or shadowrunning is street talk for doing jobs for people, usually illegal or semi-legal ones. Stealing stuff, corporate sabotage, bodyguarding or even assassinations. Now, they are not all bad people, but most of them do plenty of bad things. I don't think it's something you'd want to get mixed up in."

Jake gives a professional nod to the Star cop as they walk into the coffee shop. Inside, he gives Geena a friendly smile, "Yeah, Flip told us this is the best place to relax on shift. I'll have a large coffee - 2 cream, 2 sugar. And 2 glazed donuts." Having ordered, he settles down into a seat and munches his donut, relaxing though keeping an idle watch on the place. Guess late night Star shift and DocWagon are the only kinds of customers this place gets at this hour. Good thing they stay open though - these donuts are great.

Well, he's not likely to be up for drinks after work, I'm guessing.

Jacob's first donut is gone in a matter of seconds, but he seems to be really taking his time and enjoying the second one and slowly sipping his coffee. He has eased his bag down next to him, having left his helmet and Alpha back in the chopper. She smiles cheerfully.

The cop offers a grunt and half-hearted wave in greeting, watching the team troop in and place orders, though still with that distracted look. Darryl wasn't one to impose his views on others even if his views were enlightened and full of wisdom. Time to relax.

Once Geena comes back with the bagel, Darryl slips out of the booth and drops to his knees besides the table and says a prayer of thanks.

Standing by the door, he briefly considers switching out his Stick and Shock rounds from the left Predator for gel rounds, but decides against it. Almost no one expects them and whoever needs their help here is likely in some serious trouble. Time to stop joking around and start planning. The dot is not moving. Flip moves Jupiter to be as close as possible without actually crossing the line, but that still leaves the client well out of reach. The signal is coming from about 50 meters inside the compound. Flip can actually see where it should be, and it looks like a building, about 5 stories tall. The air is thick with drones, but there is no apparent unusual activity.

Darryl:There are several astral forms nearby. There is also a visible line running through astral space where the Ares compound begins. Most of the astral forms nearby are spirits of various types. Just on the other side of the line, looking straight at Darryl, is a woman with large feathery wings. Her long blond hair is splayed out, almost as if she was underwater. It's a quite striking effect, making her both terrible and beautiful at the same time. She gives a small wave of acknowledgment that seems neither friendly nor hostile, but doesn't say anything. A small spirit, probably a watcher, zips up to her and she nods to it, then it zips away.

Flip:You have complete discretion over whether you stay and wait or call it in as an "Access Denied" client right away. With the verification code, DW is released from all liability, so it's your choice. There have been a couple of times where waiting actually worked, but the ratio over all of DocWagon is about 1:7 (for every time it works and the client ends up in your hands, there are roughly 7 times you never see them). The old team always voted to wait. As a side note, there's nothing that says you can't try to argue/negotiate/beg to get on the grounds.

Going to a different subject, "I've never found it that hard to under the dual sides of god. Many times the analogy of a father dealing with his children is used. When parenting is done well, punishment, wisely chosen, is a part. If you believe in life after death, then death is simply being call home. Or sent to your room. Ah yes, the familiar 'why do the children die?' sort of questions...

Whilst listening to Samuel, Darryl smiles and nods, "Yeet. Indeed, for this here shell matters not, for it is only our eternal soul that truly matters. The Lord may forgive the soul and yet punish the body."

We really need a teleporter or something. Why do these criminals even bother with Doc Wagon contracts? What is the chances we'll even be able to help them..

Darryl goes back to watching the scanner, still hopeful the little orange dot starts heading this way.

Jake shakes his head at Sam, "If Ares really wants our client, I think the only way we will see them is if that dot starts moving, or Ares dumps their dead body outside. If it's a runner, they're probably better off dead. From what I heard... if a corp catches you alive, you're in for a long and very uncomfortable visit before they dispose of you. I suppose there's no harm in trying your offer, but it's a long shot."

He returns to the other topic of discussion, "As for spiritual matters, I've found it easier to rely on myself, my gear and the people around me during a mission. After all, if God is out there and doesn't want me to do something, clearly I won't be able to. So, I don't need to waste time worrying about it and can just focus on the task at hand."

Flip punches his leg in frustration upon recieving the word from Ares. "I can try to talk to them, but they usually don't budge on this sort of thing. I can make your offer, Sam, but I'm not so sure that that'll get us in either. Plus, if word got around to the shadowrunners that we're handing them over to Knight Errant if they make a mistake, I'm sure we'll lose a lot of their contracts. Plus, we don't want it getting around to everyone else that we aren't taking people to their prefered hospitals unless it really is dire circumstances. We'll lose even more contracts. Are you sure that you want to be responsible for all that? This job is about saving people, but you gotta know the politics involved too. I'll make the offer if you want, but I just wanted you to know what you might be getting yourself into." During all this, Jupiter continues to hover next to the corp zone. As a note, just because the 10 minute timer expires, this does not mean you cannot still wait for and pick up a client. The timer is based upon the contractual obligation to pick up a client within 10 minutes. Once the time is up, they don't have to pay anything they might otherwise have had to (like a co-pay, essentially). Jake scans the ground beneath them, checking for any obvious sewer entrances, though he figures the client is unlikely to surface anywhere nearby.

[Good idea Flip. If you get the sewer maps, send them to us via the link.]

While he's looking down, his mind is considering what the situation is down below. His eyes scan the ground, while his mind races.

Why are they moving so slowly? Sam's scanner picked up 3 of them and only one is seriously wounded. And the other two are chromed out. Either our client is heavy or they're also carrying something else. Now, if Darryl was out, it would probably take Sam, Flip and I to carry him. And he looks a bit light for a troll. So - our client might be a big ork or troll, which would account for them going to slowly.

Or, they've got a ton of gear with them. Or maybe even something heavy from Knight-Errant. Or, they might be real careful and are moving slowly to not be detected. Or they've got one person keeping overwatch while the other carries the load. Hmmm.

If they know that he's badly injured and they think there is any chance Ares has spotted them, they'll be wanting to move as quickly as possible. So, they probably can not - which points to a heavy burden. Of course, there might be obstacles in the sewers, though that never happens in the trids.

The final possibility is that they are also injured. Not enough for us to be worried about their well-being, but enough that it slows them all down.

So what does that mean for our plan? They won't be able to jump into the chopper in an instant. We'll need to cover them. That means smoke.

At some point, while they are flying, Jacob switches out the flashbang grenade from the Alpha's launcher for a smoke one.

Thought you guys might appreciate a little insight into how Jacob's "tactical" mind works.

Between what Flip already has and what Jupiter is able to make available, a full structural map of what lies below the street is at the team's disposal. It looks like your client is actually moving through a storm drain tunnel. Judging by the schematics, it's only a meter in diameter. Looking ahead down their path, they don't have any actual choices, unless they can contort in some bizarre fashion or turn to smoke, for about 10 meters. At that point, they reach the first storm drain they could use to exit to the street. After that, there are storm drains at regular intervals of 50 meters, and there are main tunnel branchings they could take.

They continue to move slowly, though once they get about 30 meters from the boundary of Ares space, they do speed up a little bit. Still moving about half the speed of someone walking casually, but that is faster than they were going before.

How far away are you going to go? What is the indicator you're looking for that would bring you back to where the orange dot is?

In a different direction, there is a 24/7 'gag gift and lingerie' shop with a drain right in front of it about 90 meters from their current location. Everything else around it is closed. The lot looks just about big enough on the map, though it might be a problem if anyone is actually there.

Jacob's entry into the Starbucks makes every head turn towards the door to look at him. There are six people currently inside. One, a young ork male, is obviously an employee, standing behind the counter. The uniformed cop is a human male. He's sitting with a cup of coffee, much like the troll was at the DeeDee's.

There is a pair of elves, one male, one female, sitting at a small table. Both are well dressed, and from the way they are leaning together and touching each other's hands, they're probably on a date. The other two people, both orks and both male, also look like they're here together, but certainly not on a date. They are sitting at a table close to the counter, and look like they may have been interrupted chatting with the employee.

Once Jacob walks up to the counter and places an order, everyone seems to go back to what they were doing. The ork is polite, and hops to get everything for him right away. he isn't terribly inclined towards small talk, but Jacob can dally about a minute or so after the drinks are ready and onyl the three orks pay him any attention.

As he goes to leave, the cop stands up, tosses his cup in the nearest trash receptacle, and walks outside.

The troll is easy to find again, and even though the numbers and letters are easy to transpose and mix up, he grins and chuckles, accepting Darryl's offer of a guide. About the time the cop walks outside, the troll stands up in the narrow vertical pipe to push open the drain grate on the street.

As Darryl can neither see nor hear the cop walking to his cruiser, the troll lifts the grate. It makes a loud scraping noise, and the troll lifts himself out quickly, then reaches down to help the others.

Jacob hears the noise of the grate being lifted. The cop turns at the noise and pulls out a flashlight. "You hear that?" He seems to be addressing Jacob.

A female elf wearing more guns than a person should rightly need pushes up the limp form of a human man. The troll grabs a hold of him and pulls quickly, getting him out. The human has a fair amount of blood all over him, and now that more of the troll is visible, he has a smear of blood on the back of the black utility vest he's wearing over some black armored clothing.

The elf then climbs out with the trolls help. All three look well equipped for covert sorts of operations, though they have plenty of dirt and grease smears on their exposed flesh at this point. The human has one gun, an SMG, holstered at his hip.

"Where's your ride?" The elf, whose head is shaved, addresses this question to Darryl with an Irish accent. She is otherwise rather plain of features, for an elf.

Jake curses inwardly at the cop noticing something is up. He's just doing his job, though.

He nods at the cop lightly and speaks softly, "Yeah. Sounds like one of our guys. Look, we didn't want to alarm anyone," he nods towards the elves in the coffeeshop, "but we've got some almost-467s to get and this is one of the closest places we can land." Jacob smiles ruefully, "Sorry. We'll be out of here in a little bit."

"So you stopped in for coffee?" The cop shines the flashlight in Jacob's face. "That doesn't sound like SOP for DocWagon to me, Mr. Vishneviy." He steps so he can see around the corner, while keeping Jacob in his line of sight, and moves the beam of light so it shines down towards the copter.

"Must've left them in my other commlink." The elf crouches protectively over the human while the troll replaces the grate much more quietly than he removed it. It does still make noise, though.

--

Jacob hears the much quieter sound as the grate is replaced before he has a chance to say anything else to the cop.

"Lone Star. Everyone stay where you are." The cop calls this out as he draws a Colt Manhunter from its holster on his hip. "What's going on back there?"

Jake puts the coffee down and holds his hands out in a non-threatening manner where they can be seen and speaks to the cop, while speaking loud enough for the guys around the corner to hear.

"It's not standard operating procedure, however our other option would have involved a heavy use of force. Through some misdirection, we have avoided potential civilian casualties and property damage. Sir, as someone who has spent several years walking the beat, I believe we have gone out of our way to not endanger others in this somewhat unusual extraction. Right now, as DocWagon employee, I need to bring these people to their doctor immediately. The longer we all stand here, the greater the chance our misdirection will be detected and all of our jobs will become a lot harder. I'd appreciate your assistance in this matter."

The driver's door opens as it is coming to a halt and the cop inside steps out.

This one is female. She has shoulder length blond hair and is quite clearly an elf. The best word to describe her looks would be 'plain', which would probably be taken as a an insult, given her metatype. She's grinning as she snaps her gum. Babylon5 - Sinclair - Downtown
EagleOne - MrPresident - Tacoma
Firefly - Wash - B&R

"I am afraid I will have to pass on the drink, gents, as I have an appointment with a young lady. And if there is one thing I know to be true, it is that one must never keep a lady waiting." Lucky hops out behind everyone else.

The other copters are indeed coming in quickly. Babylon5 is already hovering over #5 and making their descent as everyone is climbing out of Jupiter. The rotors are all plenty high enough in the air that no one absolutely has to duck to avoid losing their head, but Lucky does it anyway. Must be instinct or something.

An ork in a mechanic's uniform is already driving a little golf cart-like truck out to Jupiter, swerving deftly around the circles. He gives Flip a wave as he goes, but doesn't stop on his way.

Karl is already standing up at the door to the cage and ready to scan everything back in. As the team walks in, Karl counts out loud, "One, two, three, four newbies and Flip. You newbies listen up. Safeties on, eject clips, check the chamber. Take off the uniform, then make a line. Hand in your gear first. If you fired your weapon, take a seat," he indicates the uncomfortable looking chairs, "to fill out your incident reports. Mages are exempt from the reports. Damage to equipment should be pointed out when it is handed over."

As Karl gives his spiel, the door opens and other people start coming in, some having already shucked their uniforms. One woman, dressed in a pair of jeans and sparkly green tank top, just walks up and throws her uniform in Karl's face, not stopping as she walks through the garage and out. "Nice to see you, too,
Angelfish," Karl calls after her. He scans the uniform with his hand, then tosses it to Bernie, who catches it and dumps it in a box."Okay, step right up."

After Tessie introduced him to Karl and Bernie, Ricco explained that he had his own equipment and all he needed to check out was ammo. "3 clips of regular and gel for the alpha please, and if you have loose heavy pistol ammo, I could use 6 rounds of gel and 6 rounds of regular for my Rueger. I'd also like to check out 1 flash pack, and 2 each of the other ordance for the grenade luncher."

After getting his gear, Ricco finds a seat and starts to load the ammo into his weapons. He places the gel rounds into the cylinder of his rueger and the regular ammo in his speedloader. Similarly, he slaps a gel clip into his Alpha and then loads up 2 flashbangs, 2 CS, and 2 thermal smoke grenades into the grenade launcher.

Ricco is a large Ork, standing just under 2 meters tall with broad shoulders and thick legs. He's wearing tactical coverlls that with pockets and fasteners aplenty. His dark hair is cropped close to the skin, but is still visable. He sports a well trimmed goatee that does little to hide his lower canines. He has no obvious cyberwear, but a comlink is sewn into his coveralls. He has a large web belt that holds his Warhawk in a quickdraw holster on one hip and a stun baton on the other. He places an extenable baton in one of his pockets before putting his armor jacket on. He then slings the Alpha across his back and moves to pick up his helmet and a small duffel bag next to it.

He looks over to Karl and asks, "Any idea when the rest of my team is going to show up?"

"I can accommodate that," Karl nods and hands over the requested gear, scanning Ricco and the gear with his hand as he does so. "They put you on Jupiter? Well, good luck with that." He chuckles, then mutters, "Hope you've got your will updated."

With a vague wave at the door that leads to the tarmac, he says, "Copter is on the #4 circle out there. You can open the door to the copter. They aren't locked. Or you can wait. I can point out the pilot, anyway."

He'll indicate Flip when he arrives if Ricco wants to wait in the garage.

Jacob

Jake gets to Doc Wagon on time, figuring he needs about fifteen minutes to do the initial checkin. Storing his own stuff in a locker, he gets his gear, including a newly painted white helmet. He asks for a DW camo suit uniform, an Alpha, 2 Predators and 3 clips of every kind of ammo for them, as well as 2 flashbang and smoke grenades for the Alpha. He also gets some of his own gear and starts putting it in the various pockets on his uniform and organizing it. He also has a bag that he slings over his shoulder before he heads towards the chopper.

Wherever he sees the ork, he'll give him a friendly nod and a, "Heya, how's it going?"

Jacob in on the short side and fairly stocky for a human - the bulk coming from obviously developed muscle. His face is rounded on the bottom, with a wide jaw and his hair is dirty blonde in color. He has green eyes and thin light whiskers.

Alpha - loaded with gel rounds. 2 clips of gel and 3 clips of regular rounds remaining.
Predator 1 - loaded with gel rounds. 2 clips of gel rounds remaining.
Predator 2 - loaded with regular rounds. 2 clips of regular rounds remaining.
3 clips of own Stick n Shock ammo remaining.

Darryl

Darryl arrives at 8:39, nearly 20 minutes early for his shift, having caught the 8:12 Tube. He didn't like the next one, for it made nearly late, unless he ran.

Darryl is dressed in used, out of fashion lower class formal wear. Old beat up suit and tie, with a set of prayer beads and cross worn on the outside of the suit. Darryl is 2.2 meters tall and fairly small and scrawny(for a Troll). His greasy brown hair is parted in a straight line down the center of this hear and trimmed to just above his ears.

Darryl smiles, nods, and waves at just about everyone he passes in the Doc Wagon facility, although he doesn't actually know any of them. Darryl checks into the counter to get his weapon and uniform for the night, "Darryl McCoy. Magical Support fur Jupiter. Could I please have a Predator with 1 clip of Gel rounds and a White Doc Wagon Camo suit?" Darryl smiles and looks around, when handed his supplies, he checks the weapon isn't loaded and double checks the safety. He then smiles at the clerk and says, with a thick southern accent, "Thankya."

Darryl steps out of everyones way, struggles into his camo suit, and adjusts his pray beads so they are handy. He also extracts his pocket bible from an inner pocket. He hooks up his commlink and straps the predator into an ankle holster. Once everything seems to be in place, he double checks things, smiles and heads out to where the copter should be.

Ricco notices that Darryl is headed out toward pad 4. "Looks like I'm in the same bird as that troll over there. I better head on out to the pad and get to know who I'm going to be working with."

After the quick drink Sam returns to Doc Wagon to get his little Honda Spirit so he can go home.

At home he has just enough to get his daughter ready for school and on her way, before he crashes for the night.
Sleep wasn’t all the restful, his body still needed to adjust to this new time schedule, so he was still quite groggy when she returned. He goes through the motions of helping her with her homework and get dinner. Soon his mom arrives to watch her and Sam knew he needed to be off for another nights work.

Once back at Doc Wagon he requests a Uniform (camosuit) and a predator with gel rounds from the equipment locker. . Once suited up Sam heads for the Jupiter, ahead of him he sees Jacod and an Ork he didn’t know. Both appeared to be walking toward the copter.

Samuel stood about 6 feet tall and was bone thin, his hair was brown and slightly graying. He wore dark glasses that clearly must have some kind of image enhancement otherwise he would be tripping over things in the dark.

Jake chuckles and walks with Ricco to the pad as he talks, "To be honest, it was my first day yesterday. Far as I can tell, you just got to keep an eye out. I don't know what you've done before, but it's good to remember that everyone out there might be a client, whether they're a ganger or a night shift waitress. Usually when we go in, there are other people who could really use our help and it can be hard to remember that we have to put the specific target we are extracting first, any other identified injured clients on the scene second and everyone else third."

Arriving he waves to Darryl, "Hey - sleep well? Seems like we got a new TacSup - guess Lucky was only a temp." He grins at Ricco and sticks out his hand, "Name's Jacob, but friends call me Jake."

After he's finished getting to know the others, Ricco will try to get in and familierize himself with Jupiter if it's open.

Flip

Flip had arrived for his duty shift almost an hour early today. His first stop was to check in with Jupiter. Even though the copter was likely not back yet, he at least wanted to take a few minutes to look over the repair logs.

Seeing that all was well there, he headed over and picked up his supplies making his usual equipment requests. With his handful of gear, he headed into the pilot's lounge to hang out until it was time to go. He leans back into the thick padding of the largest and most comfortable chair and watches a few news reports and a few minutes of an old war movie on the trid in the corner.

(Assuming Flip runs into Goose...)

Once Goose gets in from the day shift, he says, "Hey, you oughta give Wags a hard time. You know how the scanner wand that's been missing for awhile now? Well we found it last night, Jupes said it had gotten pushed aside when Wags was "visiting" with a non-employee. Sounds like she had a little fun playing hide the wand in the cockpit." He winks at Goose then adds "Oh, and how'd the copter handle today? The blade took a hit last night, and I wanted to make sure he was working okay."

After Flip's conversation with Goose, he heads out to Jupiter. As he approaches, he sees the others moving in the same direction. "'Lo everyone. Hope ya'll had a good day. I know I did." The spring seems to have returned to his step, something that was missing yesterday morning after having been beaten down by that mage. "Another new guy?" he asks, seeing the ork. "Where's Lucky?" As a matter of course when meeting someone new, Flip lets his vision shift into the astral to give him a quick examination.

Flip stands a little over 6' tall and probably weighs about 180. He has broad shoulders and a bulky frame. He is big and looks pretty tough, but is by no means a body-builder. He has a large round head with a flat nose and wide-set green eyes. On top of his head is a short fuzz of black hair. He wears the white DocWagon suit. Around his waist is a belt from which hang a couple of Ares Predators and an arsenal of 10 grenades.

Jake smiles at Ricco, "Good to meetcha. Darryl's been real helpful in several situations - without him, we would all have been far worse off." He responds to Flip, as the pilot approaches, "Yeah, I had a pretty good day. Had to call my folks to get them off my back, but that was fine. They really just can't stop worrying."

He sighs and shakes his head. "Well, enough about that. You know Flip, I figured you would know what happened to Lucky, being the veteran and all. But we should probably get going soon and talk more in the chopper."

Jake is getting into the chopper and taking his usual seat next to the door, starting to buckle in. He invites Ricco into their private commchannel and sends out a comm message to everyone:

[Alright. Ricco, welcome to the our little private area network. I'm sure you can see how it's useful. Flip, if you don't mind I'd like to get the Star feeds running to my comm again.]

Sinclair is a flyboy of the Top Gun variety, complete with cocky expression, short spiky hair, and mirrored protective eye covers. "-was great. Sponged it all up." Both look up with Flip enters. "Hey, Flip. Have you met the new pilot? Frank. Needs some serious hazing. Brachial said they're calling him 'HotDog'."

Goose, an elf woman with short brown hair and hazel eyes who is always chewing gum of some kind, makes a slightly bemused, but thoroughly disgusted, face at what Flip has to tell her. "That's gross. The waiting begins in earnest once the copter reaches the standby point. The Star feeds are full of domestic disturbances, noise violations, and routine check-ins. In short, it looks like the night is pretty dull right now.

Air traffic is thicker than sludge tonight, with the airspace over Renton choked up with drones. This is a common happening during acid rainstorms, as people hire out drones to handle things they might ordinarily take care of themselves.

Maybe the rain was a good thing, keeping people inside and safe instead of out on the streets and in trouble.
