Just kind of a weird thought I had while playing a Warlock in a 5e campaign a friend is running.

How much potential do you see in the idea of a party of nothing but warlocks, all of them with the exact same patron? I could imagine a wide range of fascinating storylines being built around such a concept, and with the Warlock being as versatile as it is in my experience, you could get a lot of interesting mileage out of it.

Just going off of what's in the player's handbook, you could get anything from a cult of psychos, to a group of people who are psuedo-slaves to the will of a fiend, and who knows what else.

It just seems like kind of a neat idea in my head, and I guess I'm just curious what other people think of it. Discuss away!

I had this same idea. Though mine was 4 repelling blast warlocks.

Set up 2, 3, even 4 cloud of daggers and just push every enemy through on each warlocks turn.

with perfect placement At level 5 each warlock would do 1d10+12d4+CHA to 2 enemies and an additional 6d4 when the enemy starts its turn. Not sure what a realistic placement could expect, but it could still be pretty impressive.

I’ve toyed with the idea of a Sailor Moon/Power Ranger squad done this way. Or Big Daddy and Hit Girl.

More recently it’s occured to me that everyone can take the Devil’s Sight spell, and one of the ranged Warlocks can cast Darkness on the weapon of the Sentinal Bladelock.

Everyone going for a Fiendlock could mean up to 24 Fireballs in a day at level 5. Or everyone could be using Armor Of Agathys to rotate tanking duty.

Thieve’s Tools might be a weak spot without Expertise or Bardic Inspiration.

All warlock can work. Warlocks are such a swiss army knife of abilities that you can cover most of the core pillars. You'd need to co-ordinate in the group but otherwise you can get a Tank, Healer, and Scout pretty easily with warlocks

Melee Hexblade /w darkness for the tank
Celestial for the healer + ranged DPS
Archer Hexblade /w Pact of Chain for Scouting. Take urchin background for thief tools, max your dex and use a bow or crossbow /w sharpshooter

Other 1-2 can be whatever you want more of on your team. A controller caster(Goolock) would be a good choice and an AOE specialist(Fiendlock)

Now why all these agents of different patrons are working together would be the most interesting part to me. League of Diabolical Gentlemen. :)

I love the idea of a small cult making a pact with the same patron. Taking different aspects (blade, chain, tome) and being different races with different feats and such would be really cool.

I also like the idea of all the same race, like all Red Dragonborn, Fire Genasi, or Tiefling with that racial feat and all follow the fiend, throw fireballs everywhere and everyone has resistance to the damage lol.

From a purely mechanical variety perspective, a hexblade and a celstite seems like a must, the others are less obvious. I'm partial to feylocks, so one would definitely be them likely as the face, even though any warlock can handle this roll, and I'd have another one specialize in eldritch blast, taking all the relevant invocations, though I feel this one would be rather pact neutral, maybe old ones.

Though the idea of all having the same patron and just choosing different pacts and evocations sounds fun too.

That's amazing!

It's like backwards DnD! The players are the evil cult, and the epic showdown happens when the heroes show up when the players are seconds away of opening the portal.

Now there's a skill challenge happening at the time as the main fight, where 3 rounds in we get so see whether the BBEG helps in the fight against the heroes.

Hexblade Darkness Tank, presumably with the Tough feat and Tomb of Levistus Invocation. If dipping, likely Barbarian or Fighter
Archfey would be focused on buffing/debuffing and crowd control. If dipping, would likely go Bard for more slots and more utility spells.
GOO would be the wizard Role, utility & blasting, using PF and/or Maddening Hex to augment their Agonizing Damage with psychic damage. Tome, Probably wouldn't dip, but may grab Magic Initiate.
Celestial Warlock would be a Chain, so they can use their familiar to cast Cure Wounds at range. Would likely have a Divine Soul Sorc dip for additional spell slots.

RQ/Seeker could sub into the blaster roles, while Undying could potentially work in lieu of Archfey, but only in specific circumstances. While Fiend could tank with a Barbarian dip.

This would work a lot better with some Patrons than others, but yes, it's an interesting idea. As long as you've got a full table of players willing to play a Warlock. In my experience that's quite rare. It seems there's always that one guy/girl in every group who just doesn't want to play a Warlock; sometimes more than one.

I like the idea. It offers a simple way to bring the disparate characters together and abandon the typical 'you're sitting in a tavern when...' intro. It provides a way to direct the characters to accomplish a task. And if you're vague enough then it provides for intra-party conflict as they try to determine what the task, and best course of action, actually is. It could provide for a fallen warlock storyline. It could also provide for an 'evil' campaign storyline where the characters are gathering the tools needed to bring their patron into the material realm. I have to admit I'd be momentarily amused by a group whose patron directs them to proselytize. "Hello, do you have a moment to talk about your immortal soul? The Great Old One wants to consume it and you... hello?"
