Iron chef and LA buyoff

Quick qu. If you use a race with level adjustment in an iron chef competition are you allowed to buy off the LA as per the optional rules in the srd or unearthed arcana?

Nope, that would create an uneven playing field (characters with an LA 3 or less would be outright better than characters without LA). You can still mention what else the build could do with LA buyoff allowed, but it can't be the default.
