A player of mine wanted to make a build focussed around the trident, but it's a pretty bad pick :(

Here's my first take at a feat to fix that. Critique welcome, I'm tossing up between point 3 & 4.

It’s ok- but I think it should be more trident flavored. For instance, perhaps instead of the AC increase or the 4th bullet point, hitting with a trident could allow you to snag them with the times, allowing you to grapple the target as a bonus action without needing a free hand, but preventing you from using the trident on another target.

Let the weapon become reach maybe, and in a hit you can use a bonus action to pull the creature to you.
Also, tell your player to take something that lets him make people fight him in or under the water. This allows him to be able to fight normally while giving the opponents disadvantage.

Yes, that would be part of the feat.
