Your deeds and renown have been heard of and because of these thing you have been requested to travel to Rel Mord one of the great capitals of all the lands.
Home to King Black an elderly man but a good king. Your royal summons indicate that there is a rising threat that the king has become aware of and all of the entire realm is in danger should nothing be done. You are look on to become the Hero of the Realm, to save all from a dreadful fate.
Travel light and swift to arrive at the capital in all due haste. A great reward awaits.
After weeks of travel from your various homes you have finally arrived.

Rel Mord is the capital of Nyrond. This great walled city on the Duntide River with a population around 47,000(Human 60%, Elf 20%, Dwarf 15%, Halfling 2%, Gnome 2%, Other 1%) people is the 6th largest in all the realm.

Nyrond is ruled by Bartholomew B. Black and is Home to the Royal University, a large market place to put many others to shame, a guild and temple for practically everyone.
Royal Elite Soldiers patrol the streets day and night making it one of the safest areas around and a low amount of crime.

On the way to the royal court, as you pass through the market, you overhear tales of Baron Bastrayne a nasty man who has raised taxes on his land several times this year, His people starve while he sits at banquet and is suspected of other evil doings to his people in woodwych.
You also overhear of a northern villiage Vlekstaad that has not sent a trade caravan in months and they wonder why.

Some time later having been escorted to the royal court by a few of the soldiers, you are asked to wait in the main audience chamber. Where someone will come to meet with you.

the audience chamber is decorated with a grand host of imagery, Lit braziers line the walls and columns in the chamber at the far end from the doors that you came through you can see a lavish throne, nearby a solid table with chairs, On the table are place settings for six one at the head and foot, two to each side. there are three large pitchers already set. As you wait several servants come and place various meats, bread, cheese and exotic fruits upon the table.

A servant comes to your group, motions to the food at the table but does not speak.

A woman steps forward towards where the servant is motioning. She stands tall and sturdy, shoulders back and head up - with a clear and noticeable confidence, nay, a presence even. Those near her can almost feel a sense of controlled strength and willpower as she walks by. With a large sturdy shield strapped to her back and a spear at her side, one might find her to be quite intimidating - though those who look closely feel an odd sense of serenity in her affect.

"Ah, excellent. It looks delicious, thank you very much." She says to the servant kindly as she takes her seat. Faith takes a moment, closes her eyes and bows her head, clinching something in her pocket, and mumbles a short prayer....and then immediately reaches for a portion of meat so great that one might think it was taken by mistake, until Faith takes a hearty bite and begins poring a flagon of drink.

She turns to the group coming in behind her, "I'm interested in the reason for our summons. It must be dire with a greeting like this and such a hasty summons!"

She takes another bite and washes it down with Ale.

"Truly a greeting worthy of Tyr himself! Delicious!"

Thorarak stood to the side of the table waiting to see why he was brought here. He doesn't like dancing around subjects and detests a feast in the guise of setting up dire business matters. He thinks its a disrespect to feasts.

as the party reels in fright from both the noise and brilliant light, just as soon the room returns to normal light levels and an elderly man stands near the head of the table. he is dressed in a fine robe over glistening golden fine scale armor with what looks like reptilian skin boots and gloves. The elderly man without so much as a word seats himself at the head of the table and eats a whole game hen, loaf of bread and quarter of a wheel of cheese with half a pitcher of fine elven wine.
When he finishes he stands and walks to the throne, turns adjusting the robe and then sits and addresses the party.

Ahh that was a good meal, now then to the business at hand my sages have informed me of the signs and warn me that a great and terrible war has begun. A war begun by none other than Tiamet for she seeks to overthrow the dragon counsel to gain rule over all. and while I know of Tiamet and her sibling Bahamut and even having heard of thier father the great creator of all IO, I only can do so much, send so many men to defend the people and that would be a waste of man for certain. So I asked the sages what could be done they say that in his wisdom IO shunned Tiamet for her lust for power, striking her and in so doing sent to our lands five great shards of Tiamets power for without these she can not win the great war.

This brings us to my immediate summons of the best that could be found from the lands around. It falls to you heroes to go forth, search and seek out these great dragon shards and return them to me.
Your journey will be long and wrought with danger for even with out her shards Tiamet still commands a great host and she too will be seeking out her shards through her minions. you must get to them before she collects them all.

I can only offer my thanks and a reward for certain for your efforts, you of course shall have access to the royal university, and I will even set forth word to the merchants that they are to give the royal discount for items you think you might need.

now then I am certain you must have questions, so consult among yourselves and come up with them for I grant you only three answers and then I must return to my official work.

Faith rises from her knee, shield drawn.
"Ah, King Bartholomew, i presume. It must be - We will not let you down. In the name of Tyr, Justice will prevail across these lands! You have my spear, King Bartholomew!"
She bangs her fist on the center of her shield.
Each word she speaks is more inspiring than the next, her confidence - unwavering.
Faith turns to the rest of the party,
"My greetings to you. I am Faith - Defender of the innocent, Valkyrie of Justice, Hand of our lord Tyr. Those who seek evil pursuits simply know me as, "Sunder.""

Her eyes scan across the party of adventurers, "What shall we ask? My suggestion would be where to start our quest, or the locations of these Shards we seek."

Well, a man of steel in the name of the great, Reorx. Tiamat and her evil army shall either be turned or be broken by my axe."
The dwarf's hair and beard were tied off in multiple spots. He pulled his beard tight and took his battle axe and cut it at the chin, he did the same with his ponytail and left them at the table for the king.

he turned to Faith. "An honor to meet you. Tyr is a fine god. Many people I've met that folloow Tyr have been fine warriors. Yes, we need to gather these shards before evil can. Maybe they have some sort of device to track them?"

The flash of light puts Terfel off his food - something very unusual. But he listens to the proposal, somewhat confused by the spectacle.

With a messy bow that shows off his lack of sophistication Terfel introduces himself. "Terfel Saether, from here and there - mostly wherever is paying good wages. Your...highness? Majesty? Flatters me with your praise. I find war is good for my income, but after the war is not. So to be paid not to have a war could be interesting."

He turns to Faith and suggests, "Perhaps some more detailed history of the shards, more recent history that is, could give us some insight into where to start looking."

She looks him up and down, meeting his gaze in a confident but friendly manner.

Re Divine Sense:
The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence
of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to
1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest,
you regain all expended uses.
========================
I'll react as though Thororak yields a Good, Faithful result.
Curious for the DMs response for the King, or other things in the room.
I have 2 remaining charges this long rest.

A sturdy one, indeed - Truly your foes must find great dismay when on the wrong end of your axe! An honor to fight alongside you, friend!"

Faith turns to King Bartholomew, "I'd like to ask a question, your grace. Can you provide us with the location of any, or all, of said Dragon Shards?"

that is two questions and I shall answer
#1: recommend the first dragon shard for us to collect - I suggest the white shard.
#2: where might that shard be found? - you answer lies within the villiage of Vlekstaad to the north

and for your final third Answer what shall it be?

"Vleekstad, I am familiar with this place. It’s located at the southern tip of White Fanged Bay. Roughly 50 days travel north. We'd have to go around a few geographical barriers, but there's several towns along the way to replenish our supplies."

She scratches her head, "What shall our third question be? A detailed history of the shards? Perhaps a question about others who are seeking them?"

the royal guard escorts the party from the chamber, you walk out of the palace grounds through the streets and stop near a round domed topped building. Pointing at it, "That is the Univeristy", then continues walking along for another full half hour taking the scenic route to the market place. Stopping at the edge of the market turning and handing each of you a round flat object with a palace on one side and a crown on the other. " a word of advise my hero's use that sparingly, for I have only seen the king give that to only a few other. Now if you will excuse me I have a wall I must go guard." he then turns without so much as a word and marches off the way you came from.

"Well that seems less helpful than it could be." Terfel comments as he looks around the market."If we're having a long journey, it might be worth looking for a caravan heading in the right direction. It'll make life a little more comfortable. If not, some mules and supplies would make a good second choice."

Tallytrev813

Faith watches the guard march off...and turns to Terfel.
"Something seems a little...off...about everyone here. I've never seen a coin like this, I'm very hesitant to part with it until i have a little more knowledge of what exactly is in our possession at this time."

She turns and looks to the market, "I shall head towards the market. I suggest we split into 2 groups - if anyone needs to go to the library that is - and meet back here in a couple of hours." Faith takes a moment to hide the coin on her person for the time being.

Faith heads to the market and upon entering the market scans the vendors and heads over to *Vendor*

(OOC: to prevent waiting on the DM for information, i'll say she heads to the most pleasant seeming vendor at a shop that one would think has knowledge of this coin. I'll leave it to DM discretion as to who a Paladin would find to be the most welcoming in those senses.)

"Good afternoon sir/ma'am. My name is faith, King Bartholomew has charged my companions and I with a task, and has given us access to the market for supplies. Is there anything you have in stock that may be of use to us, we have quite a long journey ahead. Also, I was given a coin, a very specific coin. It has a palace on one side, and a crown on the other. Are you familiar with such a coin?"

you walk exactly 5 paces north to your left and right as far as the eye can see are vendor stalls one right after another each with various goods and or services.

(OOC: if any others follow Faith)

you decide that you will seek out a more noble & holy vendor, walking through the street, past several intersecting streets all full of vendors with several turns here and there. you finally reach a vendor with a symbol of Tyr on their banner.

"King who?" I have never heard of any king with that name, and I have been here for many solar cycles. as for goods and services I offer that would aid in a long journey, I have a few items that you may find interest in."
turning around he bends over picks up a rather large chest, turns back around setting it on the stand where it would open allowing Faith to look inside with ease. then he wanders over pointing around the side of the building "back there I have an stable full of creatures that you may find useful. last he reaches down picks up a rather odd looking piece of cloth and lays it next to the chest on the stand. "Excuse me, I meant King Black, King Bartholomew Black."
Faith had initially planned on keeping this coin close to the vest. She had learned her lesson after her missteps in the audience chamber. But, this was another follower of Tyr, and Faith felt comfortable with the vendor.

Per Background:
Faith's "piety sometimes leads her to blindly trust those that profess faith in my God." and "Sees omens in every event, the Gods try to speak to us."

"I must tell you, I'm happy to find another faithful follower of Tyr in such a large market, and I appreciate your consideration. I am Faith Boyd, loyal follower of Tyr, it is a pleasure to meet you. This is the coin King Black provided me." She shows him the coin. "Are you familiar with it?"

While she holds up the coin to display for the Vendor, she looks in the chest, examines the cloth, and checks the (assuming) list of animals for sale.

Nearby vendors hear the noise and come from their stalls as he is running, and they are talking among themselves.

Faith shops at a few stores along the merchant quarter.

She finds a small wooden box that, when the correct magic word is spoken, turns into a large Galley holding 15 people, or a smaller row boat holding 2-3. She's very interested, but the price is simply to high.

She haggles with the Merchant, who's initial price is 13,000 gp. Faith, however, has quite the silver tongue. By the Thorarak loans her some coin, and she is able to talk the merchant down to 5,000 gp.

In particular, Faith also notices a belt. It's made of a dark tinted metal, with a large buckle on the front depicting the face of a bald hill giant. She picks it up and feels a surge of strength that reminds her of when she initially found her Guantlets (Guantlets of Ogre Power), only stronger...

She haggles with the Dwarf, who is surprisingly stingy, and eventually comes to an agreement at $6000. She puts on the belt and continues on.

She shops at a few more stores, until she comes upon a slender dark haired gypsy of a woman selling trinkets and potions. After looking around the store, she happens upon a jug. Appearing rather ordinary, the shopkeeper comes over to her and explains that jug is no ordinary jug.

It can, once a day, produce many different things...Fresh Water....Honey...Oil...amongst others.

Faith, knowing a long and arduous journey lies ahead, decides to buy the Jug. After all, producing 1 Gallon of fresh water, or 1 gallon of Honey for Food/Water is invaluable in itself, let alone the potential for producing Poison, Oil, Beer, Wine, or Acid.

Faith also purchases some Vials to hold things like Acid, Oil, etc. She haggles with the Shopkeep who eventually agrees to 100 gp.

"Oh uh, that was weird" Thorarak says as the man has a heart attack at the mere mention of a name. He takes a moment to really think about the name...

insight: 21
history: 24 (nat 20)

Wait hold on... that king, that was Bartholomew Black... He is -- er was a great hero! But that was a long long time ago... over 10,000 years ago. He's rumored to be immortal... but why would he want our help? If the man can't die, why not...none of this makes sense! Thorarak scratches at his now trimmed beard. Clearly overwhelmed and flustered.

Faith approaches Thor riding on Psalm on the way back to the meeting point, Ho! Thorarak! Friend! Have you found anything of interest? This place is massive, and has anything you could desire! I do not trust it though, strange things are happening. That coin we received is eliciting some strange responses, and the mention of the name of this "King Black" draws bewilderment from the vendors. I'm skeptical."

She trots closer to Thor, "I did, however, find this Belt and a useful Jug for our travels. I still have a little wealth remaining, have you found much you desire yet?"

"Well, I was following you around and I did see some fancy boat. Are ya much of a sailor? I might be just a little...short OH HO HO HO!" He begins to laugh and laugh at his own joke.

I'd like to try for the boat:
Folding Boat (Rare) [roll0] x1000

Thorarak begins to study the coin. Now that he's uncovered a bit of information about Barty, he looks at it more closely. (can i make another roll to identify this? history or arcana or something?)

Thorarak finds a nice place to sit and studies the coin, he holds it in his hand and begins casting a ritual to Detect Magic

Faith packs up her Belt of Giant Strength (Hill) + Alchemy Jug and mounts Psalm, she then trots off seeking her companions.

Once Thorarak's sight returns, Faith placer her hand on his shoulder.
A surprise for you, my friend. I was able to haggle with the Merchant for something that, while perhaps out of your comfort zone, may come in more than handy down the road.

Faith hands Thorarak the small wooden cube, and explains to him the magical words that activate the box into a small boat, into a large Galley, and the 3rd word which turns it back into a small wooden box.

My friend, may the wind always be at your back. She says, sarcastically. Faith knows Thorarak is no sailor, but justice demands his coin = his reward.

Terfel is left dumbfounded for a while after being sucking into a chest. He follows his companions around silently until they arrive at the horse merchant. "I would recommend an animal train, rather than a wagon. Mules are less likely to break or get stuck, even though they carry less. Of course that means we may need some teamsters. Of course if we go by boat much of they way, we won't need any - food on the other hand..."

I had 40 days worth of rations for mounts and 40 days worth of rations for myself, but they disappeared with the wagon. I currently have 10 days worth of rations on me and 10 days worth of horsefeed on me

Also, while it may not be completely sustainable, I do have an alchemy jar that allows me to produce 1 gallon of Honey daily which can be used as a food substitute short term if were ever in a pinch

Animals on a boat could be troublesome." He scratches under an arm for second then suggests, "We could head overland to Trigot - about 8 days - trade in the animals that we don't need.
Then take the boat down the Franz river then up the east coast of the Nyrdy to Radigast. From there we can travel up the Artonsamay then the Zumker, stopping as needed, until we reach Catbut. Get some new animals there and cross the mountain pass to Vleekstad."

In general, this seems like a good plan. Though i dont see Catbut on the map - I see we could head up the Zumker river as far as Nevond Nevenerd (sp?) just before the Griff Mountains - but either way i agree in general with the direction and use of the boat.

Faith squints at her map (OOC: I cant read some of it lol, wheres Catbut?)

Wagon is an option, Perhaps if everyone were to procure a Bag of Holding, or a Portable Hole of some kind... We will, however, each need to be able to travel on horseback.

Faith takes a moment to think about the travels that lie ahead,
You know, some of our rides may be for 20+ days at times. If we have 4-5 mounts with 20 days of feed, thats around 1,000 lbs just to carry the food for the mounts. Not to mention our food/gear. Perhaps a means to travel a little more comfortably is in order.

Faith sets out, seeking another shop that seemingly would specialize in travel, and perhaps some sort of magical container (like a larger bag of holding)

Derf walks to the griffin stable, opens the stable gate, talks in an odd language to the beast, punches the beast in the head, then points at Thor and talks some more , then repeats this process three more times.
Derf walks back over to the stable lady actually getting down on his knee, "My love I have proven myself, I wish you to be mine"
the stable lady tells Derf go an fetch me my flower boutique, I require only the rarest of flowers you must fetch me 12 unique ones before I marry you. now be off with you." and with that Derf leaves.
Thor still stuck on a peg is looking down at a griffon that is looking up at him, then standing on its hind legs it reaches up sniffs Thor, and with its razor sharp beak picks thor up and places thor on its back. "Hey you " you owe me 3,500 gp for that animal the stable lady seems rather angry.

Faith turns to the woman,
Perhaps we can make a deal, My friend here owes you 3,500 gp for this Griffon, but I ask you...how much gold do you stand to make now that we've brought you two together?
Faith points to Derf,
He is clearly a master animal trainer - notice how quickly he trained the great Griffon for my friend... Faith points at Thorarak riding atop a great Griffon.
Originally your business was simply selling Mounts. Imagine the price increases now that the trainer of your mounts will likely work for you...for free.
Surely, you stand to make 125% on every mount you sell...at least...with training included.

It seems more than likely that this will superseded the 3,500 gp owed! Perhaps you will take this in to account?

I accidentally broke it on an edit, but it was a poor roll, i failed unless somehow my logic was SO good that a 10 convinced her

Faith motions to the Wagon, and begins to trot over...

Look at this thing, it appeared out of no where...It's got these runes on the seat back. I recognize them, in our Library of the Faithful, when i was learning the ways of Tyr's justice, there were books on great injustice and evil-doers. You see...this wind, it symbolizes Air, the Tree - earth...the mountain - cold, the ocean, water - and the Dragons head....fire. The combination is used in ancient religious text to refer to...Tiamat, the Dragon Queen...the Chromatic One.

I'm not sure we shouldn't leave this wagon be, accepting gifts from the Dragon Queen does not bode well for those noted in the Religious texts...

Having caught up with the rest of the group in the market, Kirin has spent the last few days getting to know them slightly. He has shared little about himself, but kept an attentive ear on the group should they have had anything to say. At times, he has run off ahead to scout, and met up with them again shortly thereafter, blending into his surroundings such that he practically disappears into the grasses. As the rain begins, he turns the hood up on his cloak, hiding his face and if anything blending in even more with his surroundings. With the weather turning gray, Kirin becomes even more quiet.

”Turn back you undead creeps!” Thorark raises his holy symbol on his shield to the sky and white holy light shines down onto it reflecting toward the mummies.

As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a prayer censuring the undead. Each undead that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. If the creature fails its saving throw, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes any damage.
A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly move to a space within 30 feet of you. It also can’t take reactions. For its action, it can use only the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there’s nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action.

(Ooc if any are CR1 or under see below)

Starting at 5th level, when an undead fails its saving throw against your Turn Undead feature, the creature is instantly destroyed if its challenge rating is at or below a certain threshold, as shown in the Destroy Undead table.
“I turn em you burn em boys. One at a time!”

Mummy Actions
dash action 40ft...
By this math, the mummy is 50ft away, all others are 90ft away. Assuming you move forward, you could catch the mummy, but not any of the others. Just FYI.
Kirin immediately springs into motion, moving back and to the side to get a clear line of shot on the approaching undead and increase the distance. He drops his staff and pulls his bow out from over his back, whispering a brief prayer to the string as he knocks an arrow and lets one fly, then another. "Fly true, my friends!"

Moving 60ft back and slightly to the side. Distance should now be 110 from the mummy and 150 from the others. Firing two shots at the mummy, who is still within normal range of my longbow.

Kirin gives a low quick whistle to catch the group's attention. "Elk, southeast, headed this way." With that, he sprints for the trees, pulling out his bow as he runs.

Dash action, moving about 120ft to the edge of the forest. Pulling out my bow as I run.

I can provide larger and smaller grids on request. Only takes a few moments. To edit, quote the most recent map and make your adjustments in WYSIWYG mode.
KNOWN ISSUE: Will eat the column width declaration on some columns when you flip back and forth from WYSIWYG mode. I advise that once you've updated the map, you flip back to code editing mode, it's easy to copy/paste it in as it'll be right at the top. Another known issue is that the 'header' row is lowercase, and refuses to be uppercase. I don't know why either of these happen.

”Now? Okay.”

Thorark waves his hands and banished the bear.

https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/banishment
You attempt to send one creature that you can see within range to another plane of existence. The target must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be banished.

If the target is native to the plane of existence you're on, you banish the target to a harmless demiplane. While there, the target is incapacitated. The target remains there until the spell ends, at which point the target reappears in the space it left or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied.

If the target is native to a different plane of existence than the one you're on, the target is banished with a faint popping noise, returning to its home plane. If the spell ends before 1 minute has passed, the target reappears in the space it left or in the nearest unoccupied space if that space is occupied. Otherwise, the target doesn't return.

"I can buy us some time!" Kirin calls to his companions. "I can shroud it in darkness!" As he speaks, he begins flying toward it, and mutters a few words, withdrawing one of his throwing knives from it's hiding place and casting a spell over it. He then slides it into his pocket as the spell completes, keeping the darkness contained for the moment.

Move: Fly to T-14, staying about 30ft in the air
Action: Cast Darkness on one of my 'darts', spending 2 ki
Bonus: none

AC 18, HP 80, Ki 5

Note: Shadow Arts lets me cast the listed spells "without providing material components".
2nd-level evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (bat fur and a drop of pitch or piece of coal)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

Magical darkness spreads from a point you choose within range to fill a 15-foot-radius sphere for the duration. The darkness spreads around corners. A creature with darkvision can’t see through this darkness, and nonmagical light can’t illuminate it.

If the point you choose is on an object you are holding or one that isn’t being worn or carried, the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object, such as a bowl or a helm, blocks the darkness.

If any of this spell’s area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.

With the bear distracted, Faith takes a moment to tend to her wounds. She was pretty severely injured in her recent bout with the bear - clearly she had underestimated her foe.

Faith reaches to the sky, a bright ray of sunshine shines down on her. She places her hands over her wounds - her hands begin to glow a golden hue. Her wounds magically heal...partially. Though she still appears wounded, her injuries have improved significantly.

Cast: Lay on Hands
40/40 points
Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to your paladin level x 5.
As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points
to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool.
Alternatively, you can expend 5 hit points from your pool of healing to cure the target of one disease or neutralize one poison affecting it. You can cure multiple diseases and neutralize multiple poisons with a single use of Lay on Hands, expending hit points separately for each one.
This feature has no effect on undead and constructs.

Using all 40 points.

She turns her attention back to the Dire Bear...
