View Full Version : Optimization Standard Overpowered Build 3.5

In the upcoming months, one of my party's DMs offered to run a 3-4 session campaign with level 10 characters. One of my fellow party members teamed up with someone else to essentially create an extremely overpowered elemental that casts as a 26th level caster, and has access to 10th level spells. Or so he claims.

I want to be able to have fun torturing the DM as well, but most of the Optimized builds aren't broken until level 20, therefor I want to know if y'all have any insanely broken builds that are crazy enough at level 10.

Access to 10th-level spells? Did he take Improved Spell Capacity, did he take Epic Spellcasting, or is he literally casting Karsus' avatar?

Anyhow, there are plenty of super broken level 10 builds, either through templates (Tauric, Symbiotic), or through level-draining some kind of fusioned monstrosity, or through minionmancy (talk to RoboEmperor about that), or through something like Illithid Savant + Vermin Lord + a bunch of [calling] spells. What exactly are you looking for?

Somehow I don't think the DM meant he should play a 10th level Vaati.

Changeling Lion Totem Barbarian 2/ Warblade 2 / Warshaper 4 / (something else - more Warblade?) 2. With the cheesy reading and a bit of time to get ready, you have all of the Natural Weapons (and yes, I mean one of each). With the super-cheesy reading, you really have all of the natural weapons (meaning, as many of each as you want).

Eh, Pun-Pun? You can go infinite any number of ways by level 10. Hmm, you could get pretty high up in Beholder Mage; that's a pretty cool class. Not as strong as epic spellcasting but close. You could of course just feat your way into epic spells and play a Dragonwrought Kobold to take Epic Spellcasting yourself (though you'd need some HD stack to deal with the skill rank requirement). Really, if you really feel like it, you can do anything by level 10. The game has precious few limitations and there's nothing you can't just Manipulate Form for.

See the e6 circle magic (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?521449-E6-Circle-Magic) build for an example.

Ok, I managed to dig up one of the old Campaign Smashers threads in the Wayback machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/20071015201908/http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=897351

Most of the links are dead or non-functional, but should give you some goodle-fodder.

Next thread to check would be the Famous Optimized Character Builds (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?258580-Famous-optimized-character-builds). Some of these builds were mentioned in the Campaign Smashers, and most of them have been archived on the GITP forums in some form. Here's a few of them that can be done by ECL 10:

Omniscificer (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=16917909&postcount=2)
Bubs (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?127927-Making-Due-An-Optimisers-Challenge/page2&p=7097263#post7097263)
Festering Anger Lad (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=8280326&postcount=63)
Sleeping Raven Infinite Blood Frenzy (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?241913-D-amp-D-3-5-Sleeping-Raven-Infinite-Blood-Frenzy)
Trouserfang Dwarf (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=19914255&postcount=43)
Haberdash the Masked (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?88633-Haberdash-the-Masked-The-3-5-Kitchen-Sink)
The Cube (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=14081489&postcount=41)
The Big Guy is With Me (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=19913887&postcount=37)

There may be a few others in there, but I'm getting "temporarily unavailable" errors from the minmax links.

Hmm. Looking back on that Campaign Smashers thread... there are several builds mentioned that aren't in the Famous Optimized Character Builds thread. Might be worth tracking some of those down...

A classic would be to abuse the cost rules for trained animals. I remember there you could start the game with four Rocs by claiming you trained them as part of the back story, and buying exotics and using high animal checks is very abusable. The slavery rules from Lords of Madness are also highly abusable, with set prices for slaves.

It is now infinite money loop time, with Wall of Salt or the like to make infinite money to buy infinite minions. If the DM doesn't like that, Gnomish Quickrazor Chicken Infested Commoner with Handle Animal cranked can make an infinite swarm of chickens to kill their enemies.

Human or Frostblood Half-Orc, Divine Minion (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20050209a) of Anhur (+1 LA bought off (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm)), Fast Movement Ranger (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#ranger) 1/ Master of Many Forms 7/ Warshaper 1 (or Warshaper 2 if you're still 10th after spending 3k xp).

Feats: Alertness, Endurance, Track, Aberration Blood: Flexible Limbs, Aberration Wild Shape, Assume Supernatural Ability: Eye Rays.
If you can take flaws, also get Flyby Attack.

You'll have the Wild Shape ability of a Druid 18, but no animal forms but lion. You'll have all the sizes and forms granted by Master of Many Forms, plus you can take the form of any aberration within your limits of 18 HD and tiny to huge size. When in the form of a beholder of any kind you'll have full access to that form's "Eye Rays" supernatural ability, which includes all of its individual eye ray effects as they're all classified under a single special ability by that name.

Pure Artificer.

Use the Divine Crusader's spell list to craft Scrolls of Wishes at level 7. A Mithral Golem only costs 15,000xp total to create with Wish. So if you start at level 10, you can start at level 8 with a Mithral Golem.

I have no idea how that works.

When a creature carries a rod of embassy keyed to its home plane, it is considered to be on that plane for as long as it holds the rod.

Flowing Time: A minute in the Far Realm equals no time on the Material Plane. The Far Realm is outside time, existing both before and after time's reign, if words like "before" and "after" have any meaning there.
Kaorti are from the Far Realm. I think you can connect the dots :smalltongue:.

It's not entirely clear whether the Far Realm constitutes a plane, though. Certainly in Afrocanon it is not.

It's not entirely clear whether the Far Realm constitutes a plane, though. Certainly in Afrocanon it is not.

Combat: Other than the sporadic elemental and energy traits and the maddening nature of the plane, combat is normal in the Far Realm. Against the entities that rule this plane, combat is also vanishingly brief
I think it is, many creatures are native to it, In its combat section it is referred to as a plane.

Ducktape the Rod of Embassy to your off hand...While I find this idea hilarious and applaud the creativity, I can't help but feeling sorry for the poor ducks. Do you really have to steal their tape?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Yes, I'll show myself the door right away, before the shouting and shoe-throwing starts...

But what if the tape is a gift from the ducks made from their dead ducky enemies?
