A nobleman who's had some pretty disturbing visitors recently is willing pay my mage for warding his bedroom against unwanted teleportation.

The thing is, I don't really know how to approach the task. I was hoping the stronghold builder's guide would have a room like that, but failed to find anything: some high level spells, mostly cleric, but not "items".

Is there a magic item that could do it? Or something like circle of protection / dimensional anchor / permanency?

Halaster's Teleport Cage would do what you want. It's a Sorc/Wiz 9 spell, affecting a 10 cu ft/level area per casting for a permanent duration. This can then be cast as many times as necessary for the bedroom to be fully warded. If any teleportation spell is cast targeting the bedroom itself, the spell is redirected to a random location that the spell can reach (which is usually a spherical radius of miles). If a teleportation spell is cast within the bedroom, the spell is redirected to a random spot within the bedroom.

Best of all, there's no material component, so the only cost would be the 1530 gp per casting for a 9th level spell.

Sadly, 3 levels too early for that. I can do 7th at best.

Forbiddance does the same at 6th level, but it's Cleric-only.

Going by the Stronghold Builder's Guide rules for bulky magic items (1/2 price for hard to move, 1/4 price for immobile), an item of continuous dimensional lock would cost 30,000gp.

Alternately, you could enchant his bed to grant him anticipate teleportation while he's lying on it for 8,000gp. Or anticipate teleportation, greater for 34,000gp.

Yes, I mentioned it in the opening post.

I found a 7th level wizard spell, but it's Pathfinder...:smallannoyed:

Oh, didn't remember. Hmm... Yeah, probably the Dimensional Lock McGuffin would be the best, or maybe enchant the bed with Anticipate Teleportation, Alarm, and maybe Message or something of the sort to call a capable guard in?

If the DM allows 3.0 material zone of respite would be best.

If I made it into a magic item... 7th level x 4th spell level x 1.5 (permanent effect of a spell measured in 10mins) x 2000 x 1/4 (immovable) = 27 000. I wonder if he'll pay that. or is it 18000? does wonderous architecture have the modifier by duration?

What about... if I made an effect that levitates a swarm of glass beads inside the room, getting out of people's way, but othrwise spacing out just enough to deny an intruder unoccupied space, how expensive would that be?

(I think there was an item that created a band of unseen servants- this would be a very specialised version of it perhaps? I have no idea how to price it otherwise.)

That sounds like something very annoying, if somewhat gaudy. It'd probably cost in the 100ks though.

Might be cheaper to make it as a swarm construct with crappy stats...

Any mage worth his mana, develops his own spells for specific tasks. Where do you think all the spells come from?

My custom spell allows me to make plastic surgery - much more convenient than polymorph for long term agents.

Sweet... My personal spells wins me encounters! :)

But I like that permanent idea...

btw, is this (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/tg-ZdjM52zc/maxresdefault.jpg) your work?
