Is the rangers primeval awareness weaker on their favored terain?

So, you can sense that types of creatures are in an area by expending a spell slot but not location or number. The kicker is that the radius is 1 mile or 6 if on your favored terrain, is this just weaker on favored terrain since its a wider search area? I don't think I would use it anyway but it looks weird and feels like I am missing something.

Second question and larger can of worms, does the Ranger need to be on the favored terrain, the creature, or both for the 6 mile detection?

That's an interesting thought. I'd probably rule that you could tell the general distance using those numbers. So in your favored terrain, you'd know when the targets are within 1 mile, or within 6 miles.
