View Full Version : Just for fun: build a character based on a skill you’ve never used

Skills are neat, but there’s a lot of them, and they’re definitely not all neat. So here’s a just-for-fun challenge: put together a build for a character whose memorability is defined by a skill that you’ve never before paid any serious attention to.

Be as simple or as detailed as you like. Character level and op level are up to you. But the point is that the character should be more than just a mash of bonuses to some useless skill. Getting +50 to Use Rope by ECL 4 isn’t the goal; a character who’s got a REASON to have +50 to Use Rope by ECL 4 is the goal. (You can Mad Libs that one however you want: a character with a reason to have +[BONUS] to [WEIRD SKILL] by ECL [NUMBER].)

The character shouldn’t be useless outside of the context of their one skill, but the point is to stretch those op muscles by thinking about why it might be interesting to explore and invest in the weirder side of the skill list.

Whatcha got?

Might think on this when I get my builds in for the various contests...

Forgery and sleight of hand are definitely skills I haven't used but would find amusing to have really high mods. Also, disable device to just go around breaking regular devices, like people's clocks and things.

Forgery plus Bluff could be pretty ridiculous by abusing Inevitables. You just need to forge fake contracts and then bluff so they don't read into your lie, but that's still relying too much on bluff.

Maybe send the forged contracts via some weird interdimensional mail? Maybe Planar Ally on a resident of Mechanus by paying them to deliver the documents. Then you could have Kolyaruts banging on your enemies' doors, charging them for breaking a contract where they sold their kidneys.

the assassin of dreams. Use Lucid dreaming skill to murder people by dragging their minds into the Dreamheart and abandoning them there.
