View Full Version : The Heroic Troll - play as a goddamn frickin troll (3.x/PF base class) [PEACH]

So, I'm a little bit obsessed with trolls, and I wanted to create a base class that lets you play one starting at 1st level. The heroic troll does gain regeneration right from the get-go, and while this can invalidate the minigame of between-combat-healing, I don't feel it's that unbalancing, since the regen. only starts at 1. Other than that, I created a choice of "breeds" so you can play different kinds of trolls, like ice trolls, scrags, et cetera. Then there's a bunch of selectable "talents" called trolldoms that you get every even-numbered class level.

Here's the class itself: The Heroic Troll (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xWcGu4WTK27mMJnk5bvlbxRPolSqSRlQ/view?usp=sharing)
And here's a list of all the trolldoms: Heroic Troll Trolldoms (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rsqeXxSBi3k_IwDshiuq49LgS49vTqEz/view?usp=sharing)

This was made for Pathfinder, but could surely be easily adapted to 3.5/3.x/whatever. Would love any critiques and comments!

Cheers,

Looks fun, if a bit unorthodox. One thing I did notice just now is that the Bridge Lurker trolldom allows you to make an intimidate check during the surprise round as a swift action, but you can't take swift actions during the surprise round.

Yeah, it is a bit of a weird class, since it combines race and class into one thing and all that, but I'm glad you think it looks fun. Also, regarding bridge-lurker, are you sure that's correct? It might be true for 3.5, but I don't think it is for PF? The SRD says:

Restricted Activity

In some situations, you may be unable to take a full round’s worth of actions. In such cases, you are restricted to taking only a single standard action or a single move action (plus free and swift actions as normal). You can’t take a full-round action (though you can start or complete a full-round action by using a standard action; see below).

I always assumed that the surprise round counted as a "restricted activity" situation, since it has the exact limitation noted here, i.e. "you are restricted to taking only a single standard action or a single move action"? No?

So, I created a few archetypes for the class, which is something I always like to do with my homebrew stuff. The first one is a crazy food- and eating-themed one called the Savage Gourmand. I can post the other ones too if anyone's interested.

Well, for the sake of completion, I'm just throwing up three additional archetypes I made.

The Mutant Troll (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YsrTpD4NFnNfxTSUYfkOj-miESyLbYqo) gets an evolution pool in place of trolldoms, and I created a few unique "trollish" evolutions it can select, alongside regular eidolon evolutions.

The Visceral Augur (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1_fiDsKxTvPO6bqBhcz_PUQBcqIQxD_Cj) was inspired by the Augurs of Kaer Maga in the Golarion setting for Pathfinder; eviscerate yourself with your claws and read the future in your entrails, plus gain various cleric/oracle-themed powers, like Channel Regeneration.

The Witchbound Troll (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yongIvACaJ-_bM3cGgbiZ_-bx5FAAC-h) is pretty weird, but I think it came out kinda neat. You get a witch companion, who gets hexes but no spells, in place of your trolldoms. I also created a buncha new hexes that fit with the archetype.

Feel free to critique any or all of these!
