The timber districts of the Westwood Barony have changed hands many times, and have been in dispute more than they have been clearly claimed. Civilization has washed over the area and rolled back many times. Elves, tribal humans, civilized humans, orcs, dwarves, goblins have all held the lands at some point, and many still attempt to reclaim it. Currently humans hold sway, but it is a tenuous grip. The Barony has no baron, the last one having died without an heir. Ruins of the various cultures are scattered throughout the Woods.

The ramshackle town of Falcon’s Hollow rests perilously close to the infamous Darkmoon Vale. The jagged shadow of nearby mountains casts a shroud of gloom on the desperate souls who call this place home. Many are drawn here to make their fortune cutting a swath of dark-wood lumber through the lush forests of the vale. Others journey to these remote fringes to start over, piecing together their shattered lives on the edge of an untouched wilderness far from the things of man. Persecuted zealots and outcasts flock to Falcon’s Hollow. Here, these fanatics practice their strange and often deviant rites unfettered by the mores of civilization. Still others are lured to Falcon’s Hollow by the promise of great adventure. Peril and splendor await within the accursed halls of dwarven kings of old, whose glorious civilization long ago shattered and crumbled to dust.

Falcon’s Hollow is perhaps better described as a scattered collection of several ram-shackle communities rather than a single town. Enclaves of wealthy lumberlords sit comfortably on the Perch, looking down at numerous ghettos of indigents, downtrodden lumberjacks, religious zealots, and desperate settlers who in turn gaze across their fences with suspicion and distrust.

You are taken to an office built onto a large wagon, and brought before Gavel Thuldrin Kreed, a serious looking human. “What are you doing in the woods?” is his immediate question.

Almost under his breath, "An oldman talking nonsense..." then louder, Must be a wizard! Also out picking toadstools and bat crap for your spells.

Looking towards the priestess, And you, you'd be out picking leaves and mold if your god willed it, wouldn't you?

You are taken to an office built onto a large wagon, and brought before Gavel Thuldrin Kreed, a serious looking human. “What are you doing in the woods?” is his immediate question.

The Half-Elf spoke up, being respectful. but not intimidated.
"Afternoon, Gavel, Sir. When you say 'woods', I assume you mean, what am I doing here in Falcon's Hallow. My name is Keridan Waywatcher, I arrived here earlier today with the Supply Caravan from Olfden. I got hired on as a scout by Caravan Master MacArtor. He can vouch to the truth of that. I don't mind telling you a bit more about myself so you don't think of me as some sort of shiftless bounder or the like. I was raised in the Verduran Forest just west of the town of Bellis. That sits on the western banks on the Sellen River. Which I'm sure you know is Andoran's eastern border with Taldor. I guess Bellis started out as a small lumber settlement like this one. Now it is nearly four times as big. Gavel Agraive is charge of the Lumber Consortium there. As for me specifically, My family's steading is a half dozen miles or so outside of time. I grew up learning the ways of the forestlands. My father had spent a decade in the Andorian Border Patrol, reaching the rank of Sargent. Before settling down to have a family. So he taught me and my older brother, the ins and outs of the skills and tactics that he learned and used during his years of doing that. A couple years ago I came of age. It was then that I felt the wanderlust start flowing in my veins. Being a second son, there would be no inheritance for me to stick around for. So I decided that I wanted to see more of the world. So I hired myself on as guard on a caravan that regularly went back and forth between Bellis and Sauerton. From there I worked on caravans going in a general westward direction. Working my way from guard to scout. Between jobs I made ends meet by hunting for wild game and selling the meet to inns and taverns as well as the skins to tanners and furriers. Having gone as far as Olfden, I hired on to travel north to here. One day I hope to make to Alvis in the southwest before turning southeast and working my way from there to Augustana and along the southern coast all the way east to the capital itself, Almas, City of Freedom! Perhaps then I'll be ready to head home for awhile. Just to check up on things. I'm realizing now that I may of told you a bit more then you likely wanted to hear. But I hope that clears things up, concerning why I am here!"

"talkative newb" mutters the Gravel. So you have some useful skills...

Addressing all of you: These woods are controlled by the Timber Consortium. You can't stay in these parts unless you are useful. I'm going to give you an opportunity to be useful.

Presently, there are two problems.
Wolves.
And an outbreak of coughing fits.
The local apothecary needs someone to go out into the wolf infested Vale...and pick berries, leaves, toad stool, bat crap and whatever. She said some of it is near the biggest tree in the Vale.
While you are out there, there is a 5 gold bounty on wolf pelts.

My men here will take you to the apothecary, and she will give you instructions.

Replying to the Gavin's offer, Keridan said. "I was planning on heading back to Olfden, tomorrow morning. With the caravan, that after delivering the supplies. Would be having the empty wagons filled with freshly cut lumber, to take back with them. I get paid 5 gold coins a day for doing that. If you up the bounty on the wolf pelts to 6 gold coins, it would make it worth it to me to stay here to do that. There are still trees in this place you call the Vale, right? If so, all you have to do when the wolves come is climb a tree. Then shoot them one by one, until you run out of arrows. Wolves around here haven't learned to climb trees, right? So what do you say? Are you willing to pay me a extra gold per wolf pelt? To make it worth my time and effort, if I stick around and do this?"

Kyra shakes her head at the ranger. While I acknowledge that wealth is needed to survive in this world and to meet our individual goals, such needless greed shall set us on the path of Darkness. The joy of the people we help and the pride we gain by doing good should be more than enough 'extra' one should need in this task. But do as you will, you are not mine to command as I am not yours. Looking back towards the gruff man. "To me, this is clearly Lady Sarenrae's Will to have me help however I can. I shall gladly help the people of your town as much as I am able."

Wolves in these parts haven't learned to climb trees, but they have learned to not linger around trees with archers in them. I'll give you 30 gold for the big one.

No wagons will be leaving anyway. Half the drivers, and now some of the oxen have the cough. Until it is cured we are only sending logs down river.

Ask Laurel when you meet her.

Don't forget your berries.

Show them the way. he orders his men.

3 of them escort you into the town. The buildings are haphazard in spacing, orientation and construction. Many have canvas roofs. Some are made of scrap lumber and others of logs.

Creeping ivy and full window boxes cover the
façade of the rugged-looking, two-story shop
bearing the faded sign “Roots and Remedies.” A
line of twenty-some somber townsfolk—some
with pale, wheezing children, others seeming to be precipitously near tears—stretches from
the open door.

The crowd becomes agitated as you are escorted to the door, bypassing the line. Two of your escorts stay outside to control the crowd.

Inside, the smell of burnt earth and spicy incense chokes the air of the cramped, mud-tracked shop. Bunches of dried herbs hang from the
ceiling, along with dangling pots, presses,
alchemical apparatuses, and glassware
of more arcane purposes. Pouches of rare
plants, jars of colored glass, and all manner
of dried, preserved, and jellied animal parts
fill high shelves and tables doing double duty
as displays and workspaces. In the shop’s
rear, a rail-thin woman with severe-looking
spectacles and hair pulled back tightly busies
herself between an overpacked rack of
herbs, a table covered in stray powders and
measuring equipment, and a pot loudly
bubbling
over with thick gray froth. Over
the din of her work and without looking up,
the woman impatiently shouts, “And what’s
your problem?”

Your escort replies "You wanted someone to get ingredients for you. Meet 'someone'."

Laurel peers though her glasses and down her nose at the adventures before her. Jeff, this was the best you could find?

Jeff just shrugs and leaves.

She looks back to the wizard. Luptis cough drops are 5 copper. Thomabob cream is a gold. I'm out of Ginkgo.

Looking over the rest of the party, she focuses on the cleric and ranger.I've tried everything to cure blackscour taint except this one recipe in my grandmothers book. I've got all the ingredients except 3.

Elderwood moss, which I’ve never heard of, but granny says the stuff only grows on the oldest tree in a forest. A specially pickled root called rat’s tail, again, sounds like hoojoo to me. And seven ironbloom mushrooms, stunty little things that only grow in dark places thick with metal, a favorite among dwarves, or so I hear.

Way north, toward the mountains, people say there used to live a bunch of dwarves. They’re not there anymore, but I’d bet their forges are. If you can find
ironbloom anywhere around here, that’d be your best bet.

“As for the rat’s tail, Ulizmila, the witch that lives deep in the woods might know. She’s a crafty, mean thing that knows all sorts of strangeness. She might even have one. I don’t know what she might want for it, but I doubt it’d come cheap. My grandmother traded her sight to the old crone for a few pages of what she knew, and that was years and years back, and I don’t know a soul who got any nicer as they got older.”

Does anyone in the party know where these locations are?

The Half-Elf is confused. The caravan had only arrived less then four hours before. How could the drivers had gotten sick so fast? If things were so contagious, why wasn't there some sort of quarantine in effect. That would of stopped them from entering Falcon's Hollow and having this happen? As soon as their escorts leave, Keridan gets out of there. Telling the others that he will meet them outside of the north end of town. Wishing to be away from any possible carrier of the sickness, as soon as possible.

Awaiting those that he has been forced to throw in with, by the Gavin. Under the circumstances, he understands the need for the mission they have been task with. The Half-Elf makes no attempt to hide. Once he identifies that those who are speaking are no immediate threat. He merely moves 25 feet our so, further off the road. Just in case they are sick like a good number of people in Falcon's Hollow are. (What I imagine Keridan is seeing is that there are just stumps as far as one can see. Except on the northern horizon where you can see a thin ribbon of green. Which is were the forest is currently being chopped down. Is that pretty much the case?)

He was glad that he decided to take steps that allowed him to avoid being grilled by them like she was being. A nosey bunch, that.

Waiting for the others, his mind continued. His mind continued pondering things along those lines. He wondered where she had come from? As he had never come across her kind before. Halflings, yes of course, but never a Kender. The little he knew of them, was not good. They were said to be duplicidous in nature. In a absent minded sort of way. One need to always be mindful around them. Lest they walk off with ones belongs. Thinking, since you were not using them at the moment. That you no longer wanted it. (In a play-by-post game, to keep things moving when players are spread across the world, sometimes we will post intended actions. These actions will only actually take place if they are needed, and if the circumstances allow.

In this case, we know that Abraham goes before the dog. Abraham uses a sword and doesn't have a bow. The rest of the party is set up to shoot at the dog, so he doesn't want to get in the way by putting himself in the line of fire. He does, however, want to defend the others if the dog comes closer. He could delay, which means he chooses to wait until the dog has taken it's turn, or he can ready an action and set a trigger for that action.

Abraham readies, stating his action and the trigger. ,"I will counter-charge the dog if it approaches". This means if the dog moves, Abraham will try to intercept it and attack." The player would include the attack roll in the post.

It is most likely, however, that the counter charge never happens, because it is more likely that some if the other party members will roll higher than an 11 and kill the dog before the dog ever gets a turn)
