I had an interesting idea yesterday. What if there was a society that considered people that are color blind to be heretics? What kind of religion would play into that? What would everyday life be?

I think the obvious choice is that the basic religion would be based on color itself. How would this play out?

Thoughts?

Each Color would probably correspond to a particular aspect of a life. Red might corerspond to battle, or glory. Light blue to Knowledge, Green to Nature, Ect. Those that are "Color-Blind" simply could follow Black or White, and still not be deemed heretics. Since White is all colors mixed, White would probably be the major God.

Pretty major: White is the god of life, black is the god of death.

People of a medieval setting, as is the basis for most DnD games, won't understand the concept of white being the mixture of all colors. They would most likely be seen as separate elements all together. If they do have a mixture, it'd probably be brown or black as that is usually the colors you get when different paints are mixed.

Myself and some friends discussing in class the other day the possibility of a religion based on colors, with the idea being that the earth was gray, and all other colors orbitted around it, while black and white were two poles on the axis that the grey orb itself spun. In our idea, day and night were cuased by the grey orb of earth moving back and forth along the axis ever so slightly, and the various trends of history were caused by the movement of colored orbs moving closer to the grey orb. We got into the whole discussion by discussing amongst ourselves the use of colors in symbolism.

We based our observatons on the use of colors in symbolism in western culture:

Fire- Passion, Love, Emotion, War

Violet- Wealth, Opulence, Power

Blue- Serenity, Calm, Wholeness

Green- Nautral order, youth, life

Yellow- Happiness, the sun, youth, tittering like a schoolgirl

Orange- Fire, Laughter

Grey- Neutrality, Blagh-ness

White- Purity, Innocence

Black- Corruption, Death

...Those that are "Color-Blind" simply could follow Black or White...

Or blue. We are talking about deuteranomaly (the most common kind, where you can't tell the difference between red and green), right?

How about making it the opposite, where tetrachromats (women who can see four colors, and can tell the difference between yellow and a mix of red and green) are heretics?
