So... it didn't take much to figure out what "BBEG" was (Big Bad Evil Guy, I assume based on how it's used)...
But I've seen a collection of other terms and acronyms I have no idea what they mean...

"I stan the idea of these two characters together."

To me Stan is a person's name...

And "I hope I didn't spike too much, but I am playing a lizard-folk barbarian who..."

Spike?

Is there a thread somewhere that goes over these? And should there be, if one doesn't exist?
:smallconfused:

Stan isn't a forum thing, it's more of a current-gen slang deal:
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Stan

As for forum/D&D acronyms, this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?18512-Common-Acronyms-Abbreviations-and-Terms) is a good place to start.

EDIT: The Spike one is probably a reference to another Wizards of the Coast property, Magic the Gathering. Timmy, Johnny, and Spike (https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/timmy-johnny-and-spike-2002-03-08)

You're spot on with the Spike thing, because that was the tone of the thread! I wish I could give KUDOS or something on these posts!

If you don't find what you're looking for in the thread Psyren linked, I made an acronym finder (https://www.dropbox.com/s/933a2xvk3j03vl3/Acronyms.xlsx?dl=0) specifically for the 5e subforum (which is where that 'spike' thread was). It might be relevant to your interests.

Ones I commonly see (or use) not in the link (i should QUOTE which one I'm talking about):

CaS - Combat as Sport
CaW - Combat as War
MAD - Multiple Attribute Dependent
SAD - Single Attribute Dependent
SoD, SoL, SoS - Save or Die, Save or Lose, Save or ****
Spike, Timmy, Johnny - MtG archetype reference

Then, of course, there's Pun-Pun, and numerous other builds referred to by name.

Thanks for that list, there's a few that I still had some difficulty with.

One is still eluding me, though. It's RoD, and all Google gives me is the various wands that exist in the 'verse. -_-

That's probably the 3.5 sourcebook Races of Destiny, but I couldn't say for sure without context.

Yep. The acronym finder also lists ToB as Tome of Beasts without reference to Tome of Battle, which many people even in the 5e subforum still refer to as the epitome of design for martial classes. It's occasionally bandied about in reference to theoretical designs for alternate fighter/battlemasters/whathaveyou.

Maybe I haven't been lurking the 5e subforum enough, but I've never seen anyone reference Tome of Battle on it (or at least, not using the ToB initialism). I'll add it to the spreadsheet just in case though.

Well, I saw it when I was looking into all the possible backgrounds, so it'd have to be 5e. This RoD was referred to as some sort of book where some of those backgrounds could be found in, but I haven't been able to find any adventure or module or whatever that has RoD as an acronym.

SoL I mostly see (on the net in general, not particularly gaming related) as **** out of luck (looks as if it ought to be Sool, but most of the time Sol reads right if you parse it as **** out of luck).
