So how on earth do you roleplay an halfling with decent charisma, let’s say a 14 or 16 with expertise in intimidate. Curious how to make a guy that is about as long as your legs scary. :)

Grab them by the balls.

Carry a bomb.

Glow with power.

And more.

Belkar, post 'feigned' character development. Especially that part where he seduces Jenny in combat.

(Not Belkar in his earlier days though. Back in those strips he was basically a non-functional psychopath.)

If the only way you know how to intimidate someone is with threats of physical violence, you don't have proficiency in the intimidation skill.

You persuade people by supporting their weakness or appealing to their strength. You intimidate people by attacking their weakness and breaking down their strength.

Find out what your subject's weakness is, and exploit it. If that doesn't work...Break their kneecaps, you're the right height for it.

In a world where magic exists, magical threats are just as, if not more scary than physical threats. Sorcerers and warlocks are particularly good at this with their Cha focus.

A halfling with Expertise is likely a Bard or a Rogue. I imagine that it would be quite easy for a Bard or an Arcane Trickster to pass themselves off as a Warlock.

As for Rogues, rewatch the Godfather. Do you think anyone was afraid that 60-year-old Marlon Brando would personally assault them?

I'm confused, have you never been intimidated by someone shorter than you? You don't need a powerful frame, magic, or threats of physical violence to be intimidating

Curious how to make a guy that is about as long as your legs scary. :) In the D&D setting, a 40 pound halfling is just as potentially deadly, physically, as a 240 pound half-orc. That's just part of the buy-in of the world. So, there's nothing inconsistent in that made-up world that a halfling might be the scariest guy you meet.

And there are different types of intimidation. Sure, the muscle-bound warrior who threatens violence is certainly intimidating. But, so is the 125 pound noblewoman who has never committed a violent act in her life, but is willing and able to ruin you financially and socially if you cross her.

Pretend you have more power/influence than you actually do. You know people that will do terrible things for you. Or that you will make it your personal goal in life to make their life a living hell. Describe in detail what the poison will slowly do to them, or the torture technique you will use.

The scariest horror movie kinds are attentive, alert, and inscrutable. Not reacting with the emotion you would expect.

Look at your opponent like a hunter about to field dress an elk.
