A ranger might forgo training in some weapon combat and tracking in exchange for the ability to harm tougher enemies more effectively with ranged combat.

Gain

Break through.

Lose

Track, combat style, improved combat style, combat style mastery.

Break Through (Ex)

At 1st level, the ranger may take a -2 penalty to attack rolls for the round to add +2 damage to their next attack with a ranged weapon. This ability can be used on one attack (such as the first attack in a full attack action) and only once per round.

At 4th level, the ranger may give up a ranged attack in a full attack action to treat their next two attacks in that full attack action against a single target as a single attack for the purpose of damage reduction and hardness (such as on animated objects, but not inanimate objects).

At 8th level, the ranger may give up a ranged attack in a full attack action to treat all their remaining attacks in that full attack action against a single target as a single attack for the purpose of damage reduction and hardness (such as on animated objects, but not inanimate objects).

===

A partial component from one thing I made elsewhere.

Clarification: Add the damage from the attacks on the target together. Then subtract the damage reduction from the total damage rather than from each attack. If some of the attacks would bypass damage reduction but not all of the attacks bypass damage reduction, still apply the damage reduction as described.

Fixed grammar in description.
