So now I want to build the silliest thing I could think of: a magic shield with probably too many enchantments on it.
The budget is 80000 gp worth of crafting materials so around 160000 gp in market value
So far I have found:
The base is a masterwork light metal shield +1
Aurorum material from Book of Exalted Deeds
Flying form Magic of Faerun
Shield Sheath from Races of Stone
Wand Chamber from Dungeonscape
Sizing from Magic Item Compendium
Everbright from Magic Item Compendium
And at level 15 (two more levels) the Item Familiar feat from UA
Alterable minor from Arms and Armor (spiked chain, heavy metal shield, dagger)
And maybe a lesser Truedeath crystal from Magic Item compendium.
So far the shield act as:
a tenser's floating disk;
a flying carpet since it can change size and the larger animate objects can lift nearly any party;
some sort of magic squire carring the sword around;
It can fight ghosts and is immune to the rust monster;
It can warp into a spiked chain to grab things such as but not limted to: bad guys, loot, houses, towers, wizard component pouch, wizard heads ecc...
I can cast a spell with the wand chamber so something like invisibility or haste, quicken could be quite nice
can even be reformed with no expense if he gets defeated/broken.
And my personal favourite it can be used as a jetpack if you tie it to yourself
Also the item familiar get him human like mental stats so you could actually give him complex instruction ad depending on how you want to upgrade it it will even speak.
A colossal light metal shield has160 hp vs the 320 hp of a heavy shield but my rogue like the 0 armor penality whit the masterwork version and still having two free hands.
So far the "shield" would be sold for 31000 gp, so it would cost me half as much.
So what can the playground add to this trurly wondorus shield?
A dragoncraft shield (Draconomicon) reduces the check penality by 2 (including the masterwork bonus) so even a heavy shield is viable.
Since it will be crafted for a small PC if it is a dwarvencraft shield it gets 10 bonus hp. Now if this are added to the small version (20/2+10) this means that the colossal shield will have 640 hp if it scales (20/2+10/2) it still reaches 480 hp.
Edit: any good pun names? I switched from buckler to heavy shield and bucky isn't appropriate anymore. For now it will be Sheila the shield but the more puns the better
