So now I want to build the silliest thing I could think of: a magic shield with probably too many enchantments on it.

The budget is 80000 gp worth of crafting materials so around 160000 gp in market value

So far I have found:

The base is a masterwork light metal shield +1
Aurorum material from Book of Exalted Deeds
Flying form Magic of Faerun
Shield Sheath from Races of Stone
Wand Chamber from Dungeonscape
Sizing from Magic Item Compendium
Everbright from Magic Item Compendium
And at level 15 (two more levels) the Item Familiar feat from UA
Alterable minor from Arms and Armor (spiked chain, heavy metal shield, dagger)

And maybe a lesser Truedeath crystal from Magic Item compendium.

So far the shield act as:
a tenser's floating disk;
a flying carpet since it can change size and the larger animate objects can lift nearly any party;
some sort of magic squire carring the sword around;
It can fight ghosts and is immune to the rust monster;
It can warp into a spiked chain to grab things such as but not limted to: bad guys, loot, houses, towers, wizard component pouch, wizard heads ecc...
I can cast a spell with the wand chamber so something like invisibility or haste, quicken could be quite nice
can even be reformed with no expense if he gets defeated/broken.
And my personal favourite it can be used as a jetpack if you tie it to yourself
Also the item familiar get him human like mental stats so you could actually give him complex instruction ad depending on how you want to upgrade it it will even speak.

A colossal light metal shield has160 hp vs the 320 hp of a heavy shield but my rogue like the 0 armor penality whit the masterwork version and still having two free hands.

So far the "shield" would be sold for 31000 gp, so it would cost me half as much.

So what can the playground add to this trurly wondorus shield?

A dragoncraft shield (Draconomicon) reduces the check penality by 2 (including the masterwork bonus) so even a heavy shield is viable.
Since it will be crafted for a small PC if it is a dwarvencraft shield it gets 10 bonus hp. Now if this are added to the small version (20/2+10) this means that the colossal shield will have 640 hp if it scales (20/2+10/2) it still reaches 480 hp.

Edit: any good pun names? I switched from buckler to heavy shield and bucky isn't appropriate anymore. For now it will be Sheila the shield but the more puns the better

Usefull Buckler form Arms and Equipments

...
Sizing from Magic Item Compendium

Sizing isn’t in the MiC as an armor or shield property, and a normal buckler can’t be used for a shield bash.
Does the Useful Buckler change that? (I don’t have access to Arms and Equipments)

If you want to sink this much into a single item, I'd recommend at least checking out the section of Weapons of Legacy on founding your own legacy.

Well if you consider a shield a weapon only if you can bash most of those enchantments are illegal but to solve that I could just change from buckler to light metal shield. I'd have to find another pun name tho

Add shield spikes and enchant them, maybe throw some crystals on them?

Wand chamber?

Shield sheath (races of stone I think)

Templates (githcraft, feycraft, dwarfcraft)?

Can’t put spikes on a buckler.

But if the op is switching to a light shield, that’s a great thing to do.

A nice archmage accepted to craft me some top notch items and he has 10 years before I will actually need them. So would that even be a legacy item if it is crafted on commission?

That would be usefull but the buckler again is too small for the chamber or the sheath (yes from races of stone)

The templates tho are a great addidion I'll look for some good ones. Thanks for the tip

And yes from buckler it will be a light metal shield or a heavy metal shield since it gets a really juicy bonus to the flying form hp

Sudden Stunning from PHB 2, because why not for a flat GP cost.

Because it's now a spiked shield, it counts as a melee weapon. Perfect Balance, +100 gp, applies only to melee weapons, adds a +1 to AC when taking total defence. Dragon 358.

Hey, Deflecting from Complete Warrior: +1 bonus, applies because this is a melee weapon, make the monk cry as you duplicate his Deflect Arrows feat without having to take up feat slots.

As for names? Sheila the Shield.

Isn't there a flat-cost enhancement in DrU that lets your shield turn into a spider?

Spider-Shield, Spider-Shield
Has the powers a spider wields
Can it block? Just you see
It gives +2 to your AC
Look out!
Here comes the Spider-Shield

You have to win some sort of internet award for this.

This is one of the best things evah.

Tho I am not sure that the Spider Bound synergizes with the rest of the enchantments but hey it's for a flat cost so who cares

I wonder, if the shield is used/count as weapon, the cost of the + enchantments should be double?

Wonder no more. A shield can be enchanded as a shield and as a weapon. The cost is calculated separately, so a shield of deflection +4 enchanded to bash with protection +4 cost not as a +10 weapon or armor but as much as a +5 weapon plus a +5 armor.

Also a shield gets no bonus hardness or hp from special materials? In the PHB only armor has that privilege

Shield Companion spell from Dragon #308. Putting it permanently on your shield will cost a relatively hefty 8,000 gp, but it's like animating it but better. Criminally underused with tower shields. And since your shield is probably your only companion anyway...

That is actually a great idea but I have some doubts:

probably my DM won't allow that use of permanency
even if he was to allow it i'd have this floating shield around me 24/7 with no way to interact with it
this also hurts a ittle the other enchantment sinergies.

But probably it could be intresting to put in the shield's wand chamber an eternal wand of Shield companion

Check out the Anointed Knight round of the Iron Chef challenge - one of my entries spent basically its entire WBL on a shield

The what? Can you be more specific?

The Iron Chef Challenge is an informal competition held here on GITP every so often. Participants submit builds with a particular theme, or a secret 'ingredient' to them such as a particular class or class feature, thus, the Iron Chef. There's an E6 version running at the moment.

I can't seem to find the original Iron Chef competition which has the Anointed Knight round, but trying searching for the competition here and you should be able to find it.
