Going to short hand this but,

a cavalier may use Warding Maneuver to essentially intercept an attack against themselves, an ally, or a mount if they are within 5' of the fighter.

Going by the wording, the attack may be a melee, ranged, or spell attack (but not a save).

Am I reading this correctly?

Yes, this is correct. Since the ability says "an attack" and not "A weapon attack" "a melee attack" or anything else along those lines it is left open to ANYTHING that is an attack. So it works in Firebolt, Witchbolt, Eldritch Blast, arrows from a shortbow, or a greataxe. But it wouldn't work against a Fireball or disintegrate.

Basically if there is a d20 roll + modifiers versus AC the ability is useable regardless of what prompted the roll, be it spell, melee weapon, or ranged weapon.
