Building Nightmare from Soulcaliber?

I tried doing this in 5e but I realized he'll just end up playing like every Hexadin ever (despite thirsting blade being an absolutely perfect invocation name) So in hopes of playing somthing more interesting, Whats the best way to do this in 3.5e?

Two spells that could work are Vampiric Touch and Enervation. A Duskblade build could let you deliver VT with blade attacks. Not sure on Enervation, though.

Also, consider the wider range of magic items in 3.5. One option is to find a weapon that does what you want but then put it in the hands of the build you prefer. Could go Fighter, Knight, Warrior of Darkness, anything that works well with armor.
