It would be interesting to see an update to the fire arm rules we got in the DMG. What are the odds you think this will happen?

0%, as there are no blackpoweder based fire arms in Eberron?

Pretty sure wands of firebolt are vastly safer than a blackpowder stick that can explode in your hand, misfire, and so on.

Cantrip wands are expected in the world of wide, but not necessarily high, magic.

Keith baker has said that most Wandslingers were (mechanically) people with the Magic Initiate feat, but they actaully required the wand to cast the cantrip. So those cantrip wands were not regular magic items.

Right, Keith Baker has also said this much, since the whole point in Eberron is that magic developed instead of technology. However, that said, a firearms could be a prototype or unique weapon devised by Cannith Artificers...

For a commoner, Wand of Magic Missiles is an upgrade over a firearm in almost all respects.

No training or proficiency necessary, no need to reload (but, well, limited charges), better range than DMG musket (well, the same, but no long range penalty), perfect accuracy that ignores armor, and powerful enough to reliably take down commoners, guards or bandits in one shot (up to 3 commoners per shot, if you're lucky). It's even cheaper than DMG musket, with no need to pay for ammo. And it won't explode in your face in case of an accident like black powder would. It's smaller and more concealable than a big gun, and possibly even a pistol.

It doesn't synergize with weapon-using class abilities and feats, though, but common populace doesn't have those anyway.

Here is the article where Keith talks about firearms in Eberron
http://keith-baker.com/firearms-in-eberron/

He talks about how you can make firearms exist in Eberron.

Sadly every time they try to include official firearms, there is an massive uproar against it (see: gunsmith artificer), so I feel they have completely abandoned every introducing any kind of firearm to DnD aside from single item here and there as a curiosity in an adventure.

I very much doubt there will be any expanded firearms content in any future books.
