Joe’s mom lived in a happy tribe of fisherfolk near a river that came out of a cave. Well, mostly happy. Huge, fearsome creatures lived in the cave, and sometimes the tribe had to offer one of themselves up as a tribute. One day Joe’s mom was chosen as the tribute. She was dragged into the cave by the monsters. But the monsters liked her so instead of eating her they kept her as a slave, living in the huge maze of caves. One day, Joe was born. The monsters thought he was disgusting so they threw him out into the neighboring cave. He was picked up by nasty, small elves with white hair. They did things to him. They performed rites to their goddess with him in the middle. That was the better part. Then they crusted him over with rock and made it hard to move. He spent a long time underground. They used him to fight things. One day they sent him in a group to kill a shiny dragon whose lair had burrowed too deep underground. The dragon killed them all except for Joe. She took Joe to the temple to be healed. They couldn’t fix him. But they thought that by going through their rite they could give him a new body. He hatched from an egg, but he was still stone-covered, he just looked dragon-like. So, it didn’t work. But he didn’t care because the temple people were nicer than the elves.
