So I have been wondering if there is any source that talks about using an ally or maybe just another creature as cover? Say your ally is using a tower shield, can you benefit from it too?

The SRD has rules for soft cover from an ally that applies to ranged combat:

For melee, maybe the Underfoot Combat and Confound the Big Folk feats? Pretty specific circumstances though.
