The Rules. You! Read these!

In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response.
2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe". It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe.
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well.
4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details

:miko:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :miko:

Coffee isn't yucky! Coffee... With cream... And whipped cream... And chocolate bits on the whipped cream... And sweet, sweet, Irish whiskey syrup... -drool-

Having said that, I also claim that I eat the instant hot chocolate powder, because it plain rocks, and drink tea excessively. Hot beverages ftw!

Why does that warrant a smiley face? I'm confused.
Because it is worthy a smile since he survived. Besides, adrenaline kicks can feel very "enjoyable".

I'm not allowed to drive yet, but one reason for me to learn it is that my father sometimes has had cases of microsleep. One of them was last December with me in the car. It's a thing to smile about and move on, but it sure made me reconsider my past stance of not driving because of environmental reasons.

Ouch. Peeling skin, bleeding, just under my eye. Hurt like hell. Had a plaster on my face for 3 weeks.

Baby. But painful in a way.

One funny injury I had was when I was six. Mum was trimming my fringe before I went to school using one of those BIG old fashioned pairs of scissors. I moved at the wrong moment (just as she sneezed) and she cut a near perfect vertical line right down through my left eyebrow. I still have the scar.

Most of my injuries come from acts of dumb.

For example, when I was working, someone spilled water on the floor and failed to wipe it up. I slipped. I threw my arms out to try and balance myself. Unbeknownst to me, I had a loose tendon under my arm. My arm came briefly unhinged, and the tendon up top raked across a bone, shredding the upper tendon. Yep, tore my rotator cuff by slipping on some water...and I never hit the ground on that one.

When you reach my age, Em, then you may be able to claim my current title of Master Klutz. :smalltongue:

My worst injury? About 5 years ago, I was with some friends in a park and for some reason we ended up throwing fir cones and sticks at each other. But as we all know, it's all fun and games until someone gets a three centimetre thorn through their lip and starts bleeding. The thorn managed to go all the way through my lip, cut the gum, and then bounce out again. I ended up having it super-glued back together in hospital and I still have a scar, albeit a very small one now.

I have 3 Scars =).

One Mini-Scar.
I was holding an air rifle (firing actually) and had the scope to close to the eye. It made a gash just above-and-to-the-right-of my right eye.

One Small Scar.
I was running around, tripped, and headbutted a radiator. This is a scar in the eyebrow.

One Large Scar.
Chest Scar. From top of where the ribcage is meant to join to the bottom. Dead Center.
From a 12-hour long operation (Arterial Switch) To solve TGA (transposition of the great arteries)

I also have a small 'scar' on my 4th finger, right hand. I dropped a glass and shards cut it there. It's a V-shaped one...

I *think* that's it.

a 2 mt (aprox.) fall into a concrete floor due to a trip around 3rd year of elementary school. my skull got a crack. my friends said i reminded them of Superman.

now add scars for holding down animals while soemoene else treated them, accidents with bikes, slips offs while trying to rollerblade, that time when i charged at a wall, that other time i managed to walk on a wall, all the times i 've been attacked by an opening door, i'll the times i've come bouncing (or rolling) down some random stairs, when i've slipped on a humid day, when i've into small holes, when i trip with my own shoes, when i've slipped near a pool, all the accidents because i couldn't open my eyes on the water (Though some of them had a nice side:smallwink: ), when picture frames were tossed at me, that time i was almost attacked by seagulls....

Death? Is that you in disguise? :smalltongue:

Well, MC...I had a hammertoe. (It's right next to the broken big toe I currently have.) The doc tried to fix it by releasing the tendon under it. While recovering, I reported to some online friends I had three months to live due to a case of "useless toe." (Took a bit to calm them down and realize it was a joke. I've refrained from making similar jokes since then.) Danged thing does nothing anymore. It just wants to lay around in bed, watching TV, tells me to go shopping for it.

But as I've often told my friend Julie, "It could be worse. Could've been a rhino." I mean, picture it. A useless rhino hanging around, taking up space, and...ummm...breaking things when it tries to scratch where it itches. It'd be even worse if your useless finger were a rhino. You'd NEVER get rid of the thing! :smalltongue:

"Look, if we don't find it, the boss is gonna kill us!"

"Yeah, I know. Why do Drow always keep their houses so dark, anyway? I can't see anything."

"Well, that chick does do some crazy stuff. Hang on, I'll turn on the light." Jacoby fumbled through the room, eventualy finding a light switch. With a sigh of releife he flipped it on...

...Only to see an angry rhino staring at him.

That made me shudder >.< I don't like nail accidents. It was bad enough getting a huge splinter under my big toenail. I never really have big accidents, though I am often surprised by what leaves scars, eg. one a good 10cm or so long on my leg from scraping a tree branch, and a bunch of little ones on my thighs from swimming over an oyster-covered rock, and one on my fingertip from pushing on the edge of broken glass to make it cut deeper into wood. The only confirmed broken bone I've ever had, though, was a greenstick fracture from catching a ball.

That's.. very amusing. And not bad either_ Long range, no save, cuts move speed.. the listen won't get too much advantage. Mass area of effect.
If its effect lasted another round, it could be worth it - mostly just for the awkward wtf hilarity.

Perhaps you should consider making a full improbability domain set and sending it into homebrew? :smalltongue:

Of course, everyone knows that rhinos are just large, flightless members of the woodpecker family. This is why they build their nests in trees and the lofts of Masai huts.

Anyway... I'm kinda intrigued about my latest character in Mafia (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3349806&postcount=31)... He turned out to be far more depressing than I would have wanted him to be, but it is not my fault, honestly. I just began writing and all that stuff came out of nowhere. I'm curious about his story, though. I want to know who is her, why isn't she with him, is she dead? Was it really his fault if she's not with him anymore?

I guess the story will tell itself as the game goes on...

I think I read somewhere that Energy equals the Mass of ingested Caffeine squared (E=mic2). The theory goes that the closer to total blood-caffeine saturation you get, the closer to pure Energy your body becomes. I think this is the point where other, generally more accepted laws of Physics kick in, making the pinpointing of various objects in space nigh-impossible, which accounts for supposed flaws in one's visual acuity. This also explains why time seems to slow down when you've gone 4+ days with no sleep, powered by nothing more than caffeine and willpower, since your blood is at this point traveling at near light speed.

Hm. This made considerably more sense when I started typing. *shrug*

The weirdest dream ever. I asked a friend over to help me with problems (not school problems). Had a row with parents, ended up changing the plan to the city. In the city we find out that a prisonful of people have escaped and are everywhere. We see a car, people come out and start pulling the closest people in. Me and my friend run. After some time we reach a school. We run in, and the doors close. GG, you just ran into the BBEG's lair. There are gazillions of children around, with weapons, apparently brainwashed. We can't do anything. We spend a lot of time there till I get sick and we break a window and make a run for it. We run into the woods but get caught and brought back again.

The dream repeats, but with a different ending.

Finally, after many repetitions, I realize that the things around our neck and wrist are tracking devices. I tell everyone and we ALL run away. Dream end.

(I left out parts of personal drama for my own mental health. It's easier for me that way.)

Kariana remembers she is, in fact, an elf.
Kariana dies.

Also, I'm rather fond of this pi:

Poe, E.
Near a Raven

Midnights so dreary, tired and weary.
Silently pondering volumes extolling all by-now obsolete lore.
During my rather long nap - the weirdest tap!
An ominous vibrating sound disturbing my chamber's antedoor.
"This", I whispered quietly, "I ignore".

Perfectly, the intellect remembers: the ghostly fires, a glittering ember.
Inflamed by lightning's outbursts, windows cast penumbras upon this floor.
Sorrowful, as one mistreated, unhappy thoughts I heeded:
That inimitable lesson in elegance - Lenore -
Is delighting, exciting...nevermore.

Ominously, curtains parted (my serenity outsmarted),
And fear overcame my being - the fear of "forevermore".
Fearful foreboding abided, selfish sentiment confided,
As I said, "Methinks mysterious traveler knocks afore.
A man is visiting, of age threescore."

Taking little time, briskly addressing something: "Sir," (robustly)
"Tell what source originates clamorous noise afore?
Disturbing sleep unkindly, is it you a-tapping, so slyly?
Why, devil incarnate!--" Here completely unveiled I my antedoor--
Just darkness, I ascertained - nothing more.

While surrounded by darkness then, I persevered to clearly comprehend.
I perceived the weirdest dream...of everlasting "nevermores".
Quite, quite, quick nocturnal doubts fled - such relief! - as my intellect said,
(Desiring, imagining still) that perchance the apparition was uttering a whispered "Lenore".
This only, as evermore.

Silently, I reinforced, remaining anxious, quite scared, afraid,
While intrusive tap did then come thrice - O, so stronger than sounded afore.
"Surely" (said silently) "it was the banging, clanging window lattice."
Glancing out, I quaked, upset by horrors hereinbefore,
Perceiving: a "nevermore".

Completely disturbed, I said, "Utter, please, what prevails ahead.
Repose, relief, cessation, or but more dreary 'nevermores'?"
The bird intruded thence - O, irritation ever since! -
Then sat on Pallas' pallid bust, watching me (I sat not, therefore),
And stated "nevermores".

Bemused by raven's dissonance, my soul exclaimed, "I seek intelligence;
Explain thy purpose, or soon cease intoning forlorn 'nevermores'!"
"Nevermores", winged corvus proclaimed - thusly was a raven named?
Actually maintain a surname, upon Pluvious seashore?
I heard an oppressive "nevermore".

My sentiments extremely pained, to perceive an utterance so plain,
Most interested, mystified, a meaning I hoped for.
"Surely," said the raven's watcher, "separate discourse is wiser.
Therefore, liberation I'll obtain, retreating heretofore -
Eliminating all the 'nevermores' ".

Still, the detestable raven just remained, unmoving, on sculptured bust.
Always saying "never" (by a red chamber's door).
A poor, tender heartache maven - a sorrowful bird - a raven!
O, I wished thoroughly, forthwith, that he'd fly heretofore.
Still sitting, he recited "nevermores".

The raven's dirge induced alarm - "nevermore" quite wearisome.
I meditated: "Might its utterances summarize of a calamity before?"
O, a sadness was manifest - a sorrowful cry of unrest;
"O," I thought sincerely, "it's a melancholy great - furthermore,
Removing doubt, this explains 'nevermores' ".

Seizing just that moment to sit - closely, carefully, advancing beside it,
Sinking down, intrigued, where velvet cushion lay afore.
A creature, midnight-black, watched there - it studied my soul, unawares.
Wherefore, explanations my insight entreated for.
Silently, I pondered the "nevermores".

"Disentangle, nefarious bird! Disengage - I am disturbed!"
Intently its eye burned, raising the cry within my core.
"That delectable Lenore - whose velvet pillow this was, heretofore,
Departed thence, unsettling my consciousness therefore.
She's returning - that maiden - aye, nevermore."

Since, to me, that thought was madness, I renounced continuing sadness.
Continuing on, I soundly, adamantly forswore:
"Wretch," (addressing blackbird only) "fly swiftly - emancipate me!"
"Respite, respite, detestable raven - and discharge me, I implore!"
A ghostly answer of: "nevermore".

" 'Tis a prophet? Wraith? Strange devil? Or the ultimate evil?"
"Answer, tempter-sent creature!", I inquired, like before.
"Forlorn, though firmly undaunted, with 'nevermores' quite indoctrinated,
Is everything depressing, generating great sorrow evermore?
I am subdued!", I then swore.

In answer, the raven turned - relentless distress it spurned.
"Comfort, surcease, quiet, silence!" - pleaded I for.
"Will my (abusive raven!) sorrows persist unabated?
Nevermore Lenore respondeth?", adamantly I encored.
The appeal was ignored.

"O, satanic inferno's denizen -- go!", I said boldly, standing then.
"Take henceforth loathsome "nevermores" - O, to an ugly Plutonian shore!
Let nary one expression, O bird, remain still here, replacing mirth.
Promptly leave and retreat!", I resolutely swore.
Blackbird's riposte: "nevermore".

So he sitteth, observing always, perching ominously on these doorways.
Squatting on the stony bust so untroubled, O therefore.
Suffering stark raven's conversings, so I am condemned, subserving,
To a nightmare cursed, containing miseries galore.
Thus henceforth, I'll rise (from a darkness, a grave) -- nevermore!

Hex code rocks, too bad it eeeeeeeeeeeevil and makes no sense.
Freshman year, I used hex code so much, I could remember colors. Thankfully I havent had that class in a while and have blissfully forgotten it.

:smallconfused:

Hex code makes sense, it's just a number base system.
Instead of...
0123456789
or
01
you have
0123456789ABCDEF

So, the number right after F is 10, then 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 1F, 20, etc.

It's used for its convenience with byte length, since two hex digits make up the same length of a byte. Which is also why it's "used for color" - Each color valueis done from 0 to 255, or 0 through FF in hexadecimal - a single byte. There's three (or four bytes depending on the image type in question) per color. So you have a range of 0 through 255 per color. The colors used are additive (light mixed), so, you have red, blue, and green. Three primary colors. Each with a range of 0 through FF (255). So you have 6 characters of space - or between 000000 and FFFFFF in colors.
