View Full Version : DM Help Mad scientist lair ideas?

I am building an underwater dungeon that used to be the domain of an aboleth scientist. It's going to be a horror-style encounter, with one of the aboleth's experiments stalking the party through dungeon.

I'm looking for ideas of cool mad-scientist, underwater things to put in the dungeon. Gibbering mouthers, maybe some intellect devourers and oozes. Some rooms with weird chemicals loose in the water. What else?

Reskin some monsters.

Make an Octopus that has Displacer Beast like abilities, as some part of a mad experiment.

Star spawn
Sharktopus (I don't recall the actual name and pretty sure I haven't seen one statted in this edition, but you get the idea)
Fleshgolem sea life (or undead sea life)
Dolphins enslaved by Int. Devourers
Helmed Horrors reskinned as undead trapped in old-timey diving suits
Sentient water (treat as water elemental)
Mephits
Arcanoloth/hydraloth advisor
Animated seaweed/underwater plants (just use treant or shambling mound stats)
Mephits
Coral golem (reskin stone golem)
