Vampire Spawn and Biting

A vampire spawn can bite when it grapples someone. What if it is the other way around? Supposed a wrestler initiates the grapple, can the vampire spawn bite if it is the one being grappled (passive) instead of doing the grappling himself (active)?

The statblock is pretty clear, only when the vampire is the grappler. If you want to imagine, try biting someone who has you in a Full Nelson or an effective head or armlock. Not really doable.

Also, while grappled by some one you can still make an Athletics check to grapple them back, which would let the vampire spawn sink its teeth into the problem, as it were.
