Summon Undead

I recently made a Necromancer character and I was looking at the Summon Undead spells, specificly Summon undead 3, which is the highest I can cast.

I can summon, a Ghoul, a Large zombie, or a Huge Skeleton.

The huge skeleton sounded nice, so I had a look in my Monster Manual..

wait a minute.. that cant be right? a 3rd level spell that summons a 17HD Cloud giant? Surley it means somthing else right? but there was nothing, then started thinking about the Large zombie, it could be anything.

does it mean a Zombie horse? a Zombie Ogre? a Zombie grey render? These are all large creature and All very very different.

and the First level spell one.. a Medium skeleton? A medium -what- skeleton? a Medium human skeleton? a Medium wolf skeleton? a Medium Deva Skeleton?

Am I missing somthing here?

Which version of the Summon Undead spells do you use ?

In the Spell Compendium, the list for Summon Undead III consists of a Ghoul, a Troll Skeleton and an Ogre Zombie.

He's actually looking at Libris Mortis. Spell Compendium is one of the most important books in a long time just because it closes this loophole. (You should NOT be able to summon Marilith skeles at level THREE.)
