I was debating this with some friends and we cannot seem to decide which would be best to have.
The only difference between them is some of the spells you can cast from them. These are:

Doss Lute: Animal Friendship, Protection From Energy (fire only), Protection From Poison.

Fochlucan Bandore: Entangle, Faerie Fire, Shillelagh, Speak With Animals.

Mac-Fuirmidh Cittern: Barskin, Cure Wounds, Fog Cloud.

The way I see it the Doss Lute would win hands down if Protection From Energy wasn't concentration, like Protection From Poison, due to the obvious utility against fire-breathing dragons and various fiends. But, since it is, which spells are most valuable?
It's worth pointing out that a Bard would likely learn both Faerie Fire and Healing Word, making the two best spells of the other two instruments somewhat less useful.

What do you think?

Fochloucan Bandore hands down. Yes, a Bard could learn FF, but this frees up a spell known. Entangle is a phenomenal control spell because if they fail the initial save, it costs an action to attempt a Str CHECK to escape. And finally, because you can can cast Shillelagh on the bandore and go full Pete Townsend on somebody. Might not be RAW, but the instrument IS made of wood. :)

Fully agree. Protection from fire you will use rarely (though when you do it will literally save your bacon). Also, speak with animals has a good synergy with Inspiring Leader, which many bards have
