Just wondering. A friend of mine just got the Ravenloft book as a birthday present, and I'm thinking a bit long-term. I'm a bit tempted to pretend I'm a 14 year old edgelord again, with an angsty Gary Stu dark goff character.

But how is the half-vampire actually in play? Is that damage reduction, slam attack and special qualities worth the +2 level adjustment?

Played yes. Was it worth +2? Not really but LA buyoff was an option so that +2 was not as severe as it looked.

It is a fantastic ruleset that lets players play higher Level adjustment stuff without wanting to rip your hair out.
