Looking for suggestions for a Pathfinder v1 encounter that would replicate/use the effects reported in real world hauntings. Leading up to the actual encounter could be things such as:
symptoms of nausea, vomiting, headaches, anxiety, and the feeling of being watched
hearing distant screaming, giggling, growls and murmurs
sudden pain such as a burning sensation, the feeling of being scratched, or the pain of a bite. Although painful, no actual damage is done, and the only evidence of the “attacks” are red marks at the location of the pain
Looked at Poltergeist (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/undead/poltergeist/) just based on the name, and it isn't quite the right fit. Any source is ok, incl. home brew critters here on GiTP.
The encounter would be for a party of 2nd - 3rd levels and located outside a cave entrance.
