Hey guys, I'm trying to put together an undead fighter for an encounter and I had a question. Would his HD from his fighter class levels be converted to a d12, or would I use a d10 for those?

I know most templates say to replace all HD with d12s but not all of them. You should check with the template that your using, it usually says in the "size and type" section. If your making it up I'd switch 'em to d12s, personally.

Depends on the kind of undead. Does the template say something like "all current and future hit dice become d12"? Then you use d12s. If not, you use d10s.

It depends on the type of undead.

Many of the templated undead have the following entry:

Hit Dice: Increase all current and future Hit Dice to d12s

While others only modify current or in case of a non-templated; Use class HD for any class levels you have the undead take.

So the question becomes: What kind of undead were you considering?

In general yeah give him d12s. And it doesn't really matter if you're the DM. Just assign him some arbitrary number for hitpoints, you don't need to roll.

A Death Knight has all his current HD (racial and class) converted to d12s. A Zombie loses ALL his class HD unless he has no racial hit dice, in which case he keeps 1 HD. Then he doubles his racial HD. So yeah, depends what kind of undead.

giving an undead anything but a d12 seems to be cruel and unusual to me as without their con they're already fraigle little things.:smallfrown:
