Is Immunity to a damage type too strong of a class ability? There is no precedent, so I don't know how much of an effect it might have.

There is the forge cleric fire immunity as a damage immunity

I think it's particularly dramatic as a 1/long rest ability that has a duration.

Immunity to a damage type is not too strong if it is outside of dip reach.
By the way fire immunity is probably the most useful immunity(afterwards solve all problems with lava and fire) and someone already mentioned it as being in an already existing class(forge domain cleric at level 17)

Depends. What level is it gotten at? What damage are you immune to?
