Probably a stupid question, but IF a rogue has the crossbow expert and sharpshooter feats and a heavy crossbow can they attack in melee range and still get sneak attack damage and the +10 damage of sharpshooter?

MC w/ fighter for proficiency. No need for any other weapon (ranged or melee 1d10 heavy weapon w/ great weapon master like +10 damage).

Of course hand crossbow is the smarter choice for the optional bonus action attack ...

Yes, assuming they aren't using the crossbow as an improvised melee weapon.

Yes, they still get the bonuses.
No, it's not a melee weapon. It's melee weapon-esque, but it's not a melee weapon.

Extra level double stupid follow-on question:

Assuming all of the above, could an arcane-trickster cast Booming Blade and attack at 5 ft w/ said heavy crossbow and these feats?

I'm imagining a ridiculous 1d10 +10SS, +SA, +1d8 BB (+2d8 more if they move) + Dex (then disengage)

No, because as mentioned, it's still not a melee weapon.

Got it - it's a ranged attack (at 5 ft) NOT a melee attack. Thanks.
