I emerge from my habitual lurking to claim my third victim Random Banter thread, an unmatched and utterly pointless triumph!

*Ahem* Welcome to Random Banter, where the banter is random, and... well, that's pretty much it, aside from:

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

I seem to have solved the vacuum hair problem by buying a Dyson stick vacuum instead of something with revolving brush heads and a belt I can break. Or by avoiding vacuuming entirely far too much of the time until the hair forms tumbleweeds that I can just pick up and throw away. One of the two.

Trust me there is nothing of value past the canon stuff the original FMA anime covers. There's a scene where a bad guy throws a child into the air and shoots it to create a portal to real world ass WW2 Germany.

Wait, what? I knew the second half was supposed to be a thing, but what?

I mean, I'm fairly certain that was the level of 'edgy' I used in my teens.

"Um, I appear to have lost my house" is the best line. Anyway yeah you can absolutely make someone like Hohenheim! He's actually a pretty simple character, but to write someone like him you have to take the risk. And I say take it! Which reminds me, do you want to read my manuscript? It might be fun.

That sounds like a win to me.

Hohenheim is one of my inspirations for mentor characters. They used to be all grim and serious, and now they tend to be a tad airheaded and potentially going senile (not that Hohenheim does, but most of my mentors don't have his enhancements). A lot of what makes Hohenheim great though is that he's this great big good figure, who is directly involved in the plan to defeat the bad guy (instrumental in fact), isn't quite there, and is a legitimately good person with a bundle of flaws.

And I would, read your manuscript, but I'm a) not certain I'd remember to get back to you about it and b) would likely have to convert it into a kindle-friendly format before I'd get round to reading it. I'll stick to waiting until it comes out and I can help it grace the bestseller's list (heck, the only reason I'm not telling everybody here to subscribe to my friend's Soundcloud is that I'm respecting her privacy).

I suppose the filler beginning in Episode 4 should have been a bad sign.

Watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! Or something else fun.

Or read a book! I can recommend a few.

I just went to the gym. It feels great to be exercising again, although I have realised I'm nowhere near as in shape as I used to be.

I'd forgotten how the locker room is actually the least embarrassing part of the gym. Everywhere else I'm worried if I'm using the machines/weights correctly, if people are judging the clothes I've decided to exercise in, if the weights I'm using ate heavy enough, and so on.

But it's just a fact that if you want to shower in the locker room then you have to be naked, and when drying yourself off afterwards it's practically impossible to ensure you're always covered, so it's easier to just accept everybody has something between their legs, get showered and dressed, and Jay not give a **** if anybody sees or disapproves.

Also, I hate sports.

I'm homebrewing D&D 3.5 Deities so that something to keep me busy.

Wait, what? I knew the second half was supposed to be a thing, but what?

I mean, I'm fairly certain that was the level of 'edgy' I used in my teens.

Yeah the original FMA anime is Real Bad. I didn't even give you the details of who the baby in question is, which makes it like ten times worse. I'll put it in another set of spoiler tags to be sure; It's Rose's baby, from the start of the series. You know that cute and wonderful girl who Ed and Al help out in a sort of tragic way? Turns out in this universe, during the riots caused by their religion being faked she was raped and had a baby! The main bad guy throws that baby into the sky and shoots it, causing a big flash of light that teleports everyone into WW2 Germany, where we get to see all of our favorite characters as nazi's because "Amestria is obviously German parallel so we should make Hughes, everyone's favorite character and the nicest man on earth, into a cold blooded nazi."

All of this is because in the original FMA anime, alchemy actually used souls of humans from the other world and the increase in alchemists coincide with WW2.

Legitimately good person who is also deeply flawed is a wonderful way to put Hohenheim, who despite being gone for years from his children is still able to recognize them even though they've changed so much. Eat **** Sasuke.

That's understandable, and thanks for the confidence

Yesterday I bought Strawberry Milk 2 Go, one of my favorite drinks to have because it's just really nice and convenient to have strawberry milk in a personal bottle. However, after noticing the taste was slightly different I inspected the bottle to find that, while still strawberry flavored, the milk was white!!! This is of course not that big a deal, but a funny story none the less. I decided, as a laugh, to email Saputo, the parent company that makes Milk 2 Go, about this error, and ask for a pink one please.

Their response is that they're removing the pink from Strawberry Milk 2 Go, since they changed the formula to remove artificial flavorings and colourings and it's easier to leave it white instead of find a way to make it pink. THIS is an utter travesty of the highest order and I will not stand for it. So, in the standard Canadian way, I have sent them a letter. I have provided it below because I think you'll all get a kick out of it.

Good morning,

I humbly request you put the pink back. I believe that your product is inferior due to the lack of pink colouration.

While I do understand the desire to remove artificial flavoring and colouring to your product, and applaud such an action, I feel it is an important aspect of this product for the milk to be coloured pink. It is vital to the experience to kids, who can make pretend of pink cows or make bad Pepto Bismal jokes, and a refreshing reminder of days long past for adults.

The pink colour to the milk is more than just a visual aid that it is strawberry flavored, it is a symbol of youth and imagination that brings even the slightest bit of fun back to this dark, dreary world we’re currently in. I would recommend that you find a way to reintroduce the pink colouration to the product, as that image of fun, happy times should be preserved.

As well, to put it bluntly; I don’t imagine you’d do this with chocolate milk, so why strawberry?

I've never actually seen milk in a bag, that's usually reserved for the communities that don't have refrigeration as an option in their stores. And it's not like, WET milk, it's dried milk.

Regardless that part was a personal comment and not to be taken as a primary Canadian thing (though personal bottle sized milk containers are great, buy them).

That's cool, I'm using Fuzion to try to homebrew a better system for a couple of my settings (one a relatively low magic fantasy one*, one quite high tech SF).

Wait, what? It sounds more like a poorly-written attempt at comedy than a dramatic scene.

Also, technology-wise they're a little too early for that IIRC, and assuming synchronised calanders (a big stretch) they're about a decade too early. The late imperial or early republican era would have made a lot more sense. I should have remembered this last night, but that era really isn't suitable beyond the Bradley=you know who correlations (and even then they're not overly great ones).

On the last line, that idea actually sounds like a good one. Maybe I'll add it to my fantasy setting, souls who don't get into an afterlife form a halo of power around the world, to be slowly drained of their energy to power magic.

Legitimately good person who is also deeply flawed is a wonderful way to put Hohenheim, who despite being gone for years from his children is still able to recognize them even though they've changed so much. Eat **** Sasuke.

Hohenhiem really wants to be a good father, but is struggling both with his own emotional damage and the fact he realises he has to leave his family to stop a massive tragedy. And when he meets them again his interactions are awkward, but he's clearly trying to be the best father he can be and just wants to spend time raising his kids (which was always a dream of his).

I've had pink chocolate! It was strawberry flavour :smalltongue:

In all seriousness, yeah I think at least for us people who grew up with coloured flavoured milk, the colour is a key part of the experience. I distrust banana-flavoured milk that looks too white, even if I flavoured it myself! (Liquidising bananas is not fun.)

But yeah, artificial colours aren't even that bad (in fact I believe some varieties can be safer than some natural colours), and in all honesty if you're flavouring with crushed/juiced strawberries you should get a mild pink colour anyway (source: accidentally dropped crushed strawberry on white stuff, I think including milk once, it was a while ago). It won't be as pink as doing it with artificial colours, but I'm sure we can find more of the strawberry pink chemical somewhere.

Eh, I've come to see the problem with games like Mechwarrior is making the pilot too detailed, it makes me instantly run for any character archetype other than mech pilots and then attempt to find some game-changing exploit in the character creation like going through the Free Trader lifepath until a) I am three times the age of all the other characters put together, b) I now own a spaceship, and c) the GM has slapped my upside the head and taken away three of my character's limbs (at which point the spaceship gets 'wheelchair' painted on the side and I get slapped again).

ALthough I'll agree that Battletech can go too far in detailing mechs. I should get back to trying to write my mecha system, as I remember is used an open-ended scale system where smaller mechs are cheaper and more agile but bigger mechs had far more structure points and increased damage. It worked with you setting a standard size for your game which used the standard values and then scaling to that, although I might just rewrite it to an assumed 10m height (maybe 5m, but I understand not everybody likes small mechs).

The colour is, as I mentioned in my email, absolutely vital to the experience. It's just wrong otherwise!!

I'm heavily tempered by the fact that I still get subjected to 'new media is evil' in my home life ('oh why are you playing computer games/watching anime/reading a science fiction novel when you could watch the kind of TV/read the kind of books I watched at your age!'), so I'm having trouble writing that as an absolute statement, but I agree wholeheartedly. Although you'll have to excuse me because a friend suggested I try FE:F:BR and I'm getting surprisingly engaged in it.

I never really got into Gundam. I enjoyed the first series enough, but couldn't get into later ones. Plus I kind of like the 'humanoid tank' aesthetic, the engineer in me understands that anything that big and humanoid is going to be as agile as a hippopotamus on a skateboard, my system assumes that mecha have the rough defence class of a barn unless they're firing boosters (which they're supposed to do in combat, but eats into the same fuel supply as their generators). Mechas that leave out boosters either have to go heavy on weapons and try to power through their target's armour, or heavy on armour and try to stonewall.

Actually, considering how many details over established I should probably just bite the bullet and create a setting for this this game. An eternal war over a colonised planet in an FTL-less universe or something.

FE:F:BR is Fire Emblem: Fates: Birthright, although I'm already a little annoyed that it seems like they're going to have the MC fight for the country they were born in and not the one where they grew up, have ties and immersion in the culture. It's annoying, because I'm liking the gameplay.

Also you don't have to tell me that banananananana milk exists, it's my favourite flavour.

To be fair hippo's are actually surprisingly agile given their size. But yeah that's cool and all but I don't really want the hardest hard realism ever. That's why I dislike Battletech, it's just a bunch of walking gun platforms and that's so ****ing boring. Gundam is real robot, but it's got ESPers and beam swords and humanoid mechs that are basically Large Infantry and I like that so much more. Also funnels! I cannot begin to describe how much I LOVE funnels. Just these little flying drones you control with your brain (or with an intensely steady hand and some fishing wire) that fly around shooting stuff at your enemy. It's great I love them so much and they're so cute and all the mechs that make use of funnels are my favorite.

Aahy, okay. And yeah if you're watch Birthright they're, of course, going to go to their home land. It's their Birthright, after all. The one you'd want to see is Conquest, which is him fighting for Nohr. Also you're gonna get more annoyed at time goes on, I LIKE Fates but it's uh... it's got Problems.

My favorite is Strawberry but Banana is good too.

Ironically Minovsky Particles would do the opposite, since high exposure leads to psionic powers.

Heck of a crossover series though. 40k bots are hilariously oversized in the fluff, they have made progressively smaller ones over time so they can be game usable. 1,500ft imperial titans with hundreds of plasma cannons vs fast demon possessed gundams.

It's a generic system descended from the system used in Cyberpunk 2020 and Mekton. I got it a few months back because the book was on sale for £1, and while not amazing it's an easier base to start from than GURPS is.

Given even basic ass Gundam's can take down things far larger than them (Rip in piss Big Zam you lunatic of a walker-mech) I have to imagine demon fueled Gundams would be like Unicornw whenever it gets a sniff of Newtype energy. Which is to say it basically would burrow into it like a bloatfly and eat it inside out.

**** a Gundam/Warhammer 40k crossover would actually rule so much. Amuro Ray shows up and just makes every imperial soldier fall to their knees and he doesn't kill them because despite all appearances to the contrary he doesn't serve Korn, he serves Tzencitch.

What's popcorn initiative?

Also I LOVE spider tanks. I want to pet a Tachikoma so much that I'd probably kill someone to do it. But like, Battletech doesn't have any of that. It's just big stompy two legged walking gun platforms. There's no style, there's no grace, to Battletech. And that's like the point. And if you wanna see a King Crab assault stomp on a locust and just man handle some jackass, that's all well and cool. But there's just nothing in it for me.

Popcorn initiative is basically:
1) One side elects someone to go
2) The other side elects someone to go
3) The first side elects someone who hasn't gone yet this round to go
4) The second side elects someone who hasn't yet gone this round to go

N) There are no people left to activate on one side, so the other side activates all their remaining people in whatever order they choose.
Then the round starts over. (In this case, with the side that did not have the most recent activation.)

So, turns pop up randomly like popcorn - hence the name. It's a cool concept, allowing a lot of strategy... but, maaaaan does it not work for play-by-post. Since it requires quick analysis of the situation and consensus.

And, ah, fair enough. Yeah, just big blocky mechs don't do it too much for me. I need some sleekness. Eldar, not Imperial. :smalltongue:

You say that like serving Tzeentch is any better than serving Khorne. :smalltongue: (it's not. Worst that can happen serving Khorne is you get brutally murdered)

I've only seen Iron-Blooded Orphans as far as Gundam series go, but from what I understand 40k/Gundam would definitely be a cool crossover. The main issue I see is that 40k's power scaling is... truly, TRULY ridonkulus. Just in terms of the Imperium's mech units, you have everything from Dreadnoughts (about the size of a large tank) to Imperator War Titans (400 feet tall) and everything in between.

The way it mostly works is we bring the gallon or half gallon home, then we pour it into a glass. Milk isn't much of a to-go drink, you usually don't take milk with you during the day.

Not the detergent itself, but a lot of cleaning stuff comes in white plastic jugs like this (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleichen#/media/Datei:Eau-de-Javel-deutsch-1.jpg), so it seems kinda weird. Might just be me.

Aha. Most of our detergents are in brightly colored jugs that are variably shaped, while the milk jug-style jug is also used for distilled water, sweet tea, lemonade, and the like. The drink jugs are also clear, so the milk ones only look white because they hold milk.

I mean, it's not really an allergy. Ingest too much of the wrong pollen and I die (in theory, I got my tonsils removed as a toddler because it nearly happened), I have too much lactose I feel terrible and you'll want to give it half an hour after I've been to the bathroom. I only bring it up because IIRC real lactose/diary allergies are a thing, just incredibly rare.

There are two toes of lactose intolerant people, those who'll avoid chocolate because they'll feel terrible, and those who'll scoff an entire wheel of Stilton because it's there. I very much fall into the latter category, when drinking milk it'll be in the largest glass I can find, I'll pay for it later but it's delicious. Some people straight up don't believe me when I tell them I'm LI because they've just seem me eat a litre of cheese.

I did try cutting diary out once, but life's too short to avoid it.

I do take tea and coffee black, but that's personal preference. Now please give me back my ice cream.

It's practical insomuch as it provides a massive defensive advantage. Attacking… not so much. Which is, of course, where issues lay.

Limitations of code, alas. A robot simply can't adapt naturally to even something as simple as putting one's foot down for a step. It's not the design's fault so much as it is the computer's. :smallamused:

It's practical insomuch as it provides a massive defensive advantage. Attacking… not so much. Which is, of course, where issues lay.

No one tried the obvious solution of towing wooden buses full of troops held up by hot air balloon behind biplanes, which makes me sad. Single use troop carrier dirigibles were the future everyone needed (except the people inside them probably.)

Edit: Computers can beat us in Go and are going to take our jobs, can't figure out this walking trick. Leading to the bad future where we do manual labor and they run the stock exchange.

The whole "mechs are impractical!" argument has never held any weight for me because bitch look at history and name one time where humans did something practical over something absolutely gob smacked stupid and awesome instead.

Giant robots are ostensibly war machines, and "stupid but awesome" generally describes the losing strategy in war. Rome very nearly got wiped off the map because they cleaved to honor and glory against Hannibal rather than engage in "cowardly" tactics like ambushes from favorable terrain. They also absolutely loathed Fabian tactics of harassing the enemy line because it was also "cowardly" and not even close to awesome.

It's also a major reason that Rome survived the second Punic war.

Trench warfare is not practical and is in fact an utter meat grinder.

Trench warfare was actually the most practical strategy for the time. It made your defensive line essentially unassailable, which is why everybody used it.

The problem is that if everyone's line is unassailable, there's never an end to the conflict. And since everyone was using trench warfare, weeeeeell...

There's nothing awesome about needlessly clinging to honour over tactics, is the thing, so that's very Stupid but not Awesome. Stealthing across a battlefield to sneak attack the enemy army entirely? Now that's stupid AND awesome (but also smart since things can be dumb and smart at the same time).

Nothing is good about perpetual war, ergo trench warfare is not practical, nor is it stupid or awesome. It's just Bad.

Glory is, by definition, awesome. And most awesome things are also very, very stupid (using a too big for you, for example)

Giant robots are the impractical kind of stupid. See square cube law.

This... isn't what Hannibal did at any point I can recall. IIRC he preferred to bait his enemies into terrible positions.

Locally for me, there is Promised Land Dairy which is doing the same thing.

While I do appreciate the attempt to be more "natural" and "organic" there are plenty of ways to get red coloring naturally and organically, without having to resort to using synthetic chemical dyes.

...also, I don't like Promised Land Dairy's strawberry milk. It has way too much of a citrusy acidic bite to it, which is totally out of place in milk, which is supposed to be sweet and smooth.

Given that they switched from artificial ingredients, I'm willing to wager that genuine strawberry colouring is quite far out of the price range for this brand. I'm even willing to bet that their natural flavours aren't actually taken from strawberries, but rather cheaper plants which just happen to contain the same esters as strawberries do.

Milk-Flavored Milk, aka the default state of milk. Unless you want to get technical than it's "not-germ-infested" flavor, because Raw Milk is a thing. Don't drink it you'll regret being alive!

I've had raw milk and I do not regret being alive. In fact, unless the cow is sick, raw milk should not contain any significant amount of germs. That said, you need to drink raw milk fresh, because unpasteurised milk doesn't really have a shelf life.

I still don't get how Americans can mock Canadian milkbagging when US milk comes in boxes. Did the humble bottle not survive across the Atlantic?

Actually, one of the major inventions in milk carton history is Swedish, and you'll find that milk cartons are quite common in mainland Europe as well. In fact, I'd say the Nordic countries have the US beat when it comes to relative milk carton usage. Ours is pretty much 100% of the total range of milk packaging.

Two nights ago I drank an entire litre of milk because it was going to go bad the next day. No mistakes were made.

You didn't really have to, though. Expiry dates aren't hard caps, and unless your refrigerator is bad, yours should last for a few more days. It will acquire a taste which I'm not too fond of first, though.

Actually, the process of making cheese consumes most of the lactose, so most lactose intolerant people can consume moderate amounts of cheese with no ill effects.

You want me to try?

Romans using slave labour over steam power
The majority of prosthetics development
All those generals who decided to win their battles instead of having their soldiers fight in time with the Cancan
Electronic computers over mechanical computers (they didn't get out awesomed for quite a while)
Sieges
Egyptian Pharoahs switching from pyramids to underground tombs

Need I go on?

Generally in history when something awesome has been done that's either because a) it's actually practical, or b) so much money has been sunk into it already that it's impractical to use a practical option.

Mecha are cool, but they're so unrealistic that Gundam's agile mecha are less ridiculous than Battletech's walking tanks. It's at the point where unless they're heavy use of boosters to ease movement and the limbs are more about positioning weapons and boosters than actually moving the mecha then I'll just remember how hard it is to build a walking robot.

I got into a fight with my friend a couple of days ago, because she said I don't like Tomb Raider because I consider the second reboot games to be massively inferior to the Core Design games.

Maybe I'm wrong for wanting a series built on platforming to focus on platforming instead of stealth and third person shooter combat, but I literally grew up with the first four games*. Don't tell me that the games are in the same series when one is based around puzzles and traversing giant multiple-level tombs and the other incudes five minute jumping over pits segments between thirty minute gun battles. But apparently this is pure 'they changed it now it sucks' and I shouldn't want the old puzzle platformer style.

But I've been discovering that it's the really little things that annoy me, like having air control. I've been playing Angel of Darkness (whisk, in my opinion, is just better than TR2013), and the fact that jumps were committed only added challenge and gameplay. I actually have to plan my jumps and ensure I have the right momentum instead of just leaping and wiggling the stick if I'm going to miss. The platforming in the newer games just feels so souled, but in the older ones I don't care about the tank controls because they work and the game is designed around them.

* and to clarify they didn't get into the series until later.

You might be underestimating the amount of time it'll take to genetically engineer plants that are both fully pest resistant yet at the same time not ecosystem-destroying.

I don't think the "increased space" is generally part of "organic" as far as labelling requirements go. "Organic" and "free-range" are orthogonal (and "free-range" probably means less than you intuitively expect, though that's jurisdictional).

Sterility is the usual way to go, yes? Existing gengineered crops are usually grown from seed bought fresh from whatever company makes them, not bought once and reseeded from the results, as far as I know. That removes "ecosystem-destroying" as a risk beyond the confines of the fields.

On the milk container issue, I do buy my milk in glass bottles from the local dairy, but that's not common in my area. I'm just lucky enough to have a glass-bottle small dairy that sells milk at the farmers market walking distance from my house once a week. I used to live in a different city in my state that had a dairy with re-usable plastic bottles and wide distribution, though. (That dairy ran a chain of milk-focused convenience stores with drive-thru windows and I miss them terribly. Being able to pick up milk on the way home without getting out of the car was a major bonus of living in that town. I don't really drive much now, though, since I walk to work, so I suppose it wouldn't be the same anyway.)

It's going to be a rough transition when the farmers market shuts down for the winter at the end of the month and I have to actually get in the car to buy perishables again. I've really been enjoying being able to get everything but shelf-stable bulk stuff on foot all summer.

Yeah, but that requires fertile plants to hybridise from, because we aren't quite at the stage where we're able to synthesise entire seeds from molecular matter, and you need to make sure those aren't eco-system destroying either. To put in perspective, contemporary genetically engineered crops primarily do one thing, and that's a tailored immunity to very strong planticides, meaning they can grow completely free of competition.

Then we have the whole part about a cyberpunk dystopia...

Yeah, basically this. I remember hearing something about a group of farmers that were forced to buy seeds because of their contract even though the plant wasn't sterile, which really screwed up their business model. Forcing all farmers to do so by genetic means would mean mostly the end for independent farmers. I think the right way to go would be to make it not sterile, but just only have the seeds be opened by some kind of tool, and not naturally. Probably too difficult to make happen, though.

Delightful culinary discovery:

Disclaimer: Non vegan/vegetarian; non Hillel / Kosher; lactose free;

take smoked bacon and fully cook. finely chop bacon to about "bacon bit sized bits"

Drop bits into pan of tomato soup and slow cook. place some in a bowl with a slice of smoked provolone or smoke Gouda cheese. let cheese melt then enjoy.

I have enjoyed tomato soup wit cheese many times, but on a whim I dropped in the bacon and YUMMY!

i'd add some onions and turn this into an amazing pasta sause!

Decades to centuries. It's still quicker than millennia,

Hi everyone! Long time since I was on the forum. I got a new job in May and have been working on getting rid of my low self-esteem. I’m a library page now and am really enjoying it! I’m still working on my college degree, doing well in 3 out of 4 classes but am failing remedial algebra. I’m an online student. I’m horrible at math which is odd for a d&d player, but I comprehend the written word quite a bit better than complex numeric rules. Hope everyone is doing well, and hopefully I can find some time to post tomorrow. Going to get some sleep now!

So I did karaoke for the first time tonight, 'cause well, when a friend's feelin' low, you do what you've got to do to get them out of the house. All I can say is when your singing lexicon is limited to Georgian/Persian folk songs and outlaw country, karaoke is a struggle.

I have a love-hate relationship with karaoke. On the one hand I have a good singing voice, on the o other hand I have an untrained singing voice so while I can hold a tune I tend to revert to monotone (and I'm aware of the fact). The end result is that despite loving to sing I won't do karaoke without being drunk (and I rarely drink these days).

But yeah, a good range of musical knowledge is fairly important. Knowing some of the more popular songs from the eighties through noughties has saved my life when there's no metal or youtube singers on offer.

Bah, it's like this 'organic' nonsense, I just had some organic eggs, they were from some totally carbon based chickens. I say we treat the artificial stuff like what it is, chemicals, and the natural stuff like what it is, chemicals.

What is your favourite georgian or persian folk song?

My favorite Georgian folk song to sing is probably Tu Ase Turpa Iqavi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYF_MHTfMeo), which puzzlingly enough this Irish pub didn't have on their karaoke machine. So I settled for a less-than-spectacular rendition of Merle Haggard's 'Someday We'll Look Back'. My voice is pretty low and I struggle with some of Merle's higher-register stuff, but they didn't have the country artists I usually find better suited to my voice, so I had to work with what I had.

The conflict is a proxy for nature vs. nurture arguments. People who don't buy into nurture arguments see the higher rates of attacks as indicative of the breed, people who don't but into nature arguments blame the training. There really isn't a point to arguing about it, because the axioms involved are fairly fundamental and the same data can be used to make either argument.

Which is great, but statistically they are involved in more attacks then other breeds.

The conflict is about how we interpret those statistics. Is it that pit bulls are more violent, or are bad owners more likely to get pit bulls?

For instance, some people raise tigers. Of those people, some have done so without getting attacked, but owning a tiger is still exponentially more dangerous then a dog.

Eh, I don't get much body hair anyway, and shaving it off looks better. Ill agree it is a hassle (and takes an age), but the itching isn't that bad, and seems to mainly be caused by my clothes. But hopefully the areas which had longer hair won't take so long next time.

I'd share a picture as evidence, but I don't want to go through the hassle of making it board-safe.

Yeah I don't get how people find the modern British Bulldog breed cute TBH...Some of the older versions or recreations (like the Olde English Bulldogge) sure but the modern ones, they just strike a so "WRONG", and they have always brought out a mix of anger and pained empathy in me that I can never be comfortable around them.

Pugs are only ugly because we selectively bred them until their noses stopped being functional.
well their eye and spinal problems don't help. but the lack of a proper nose (and the associated horrifying breathing noises) is the biggie.

So I went to boarding school where we had a museum of paleontology on campus and I spent a lot of time around bones to the point where I picked up a kind of mental visual filter where you can "see"/track bones in living moving creatures (damn humans are weird organisms)...and dog breeds like the English bulldog, basset hounds, pugs, dachshunds, greyhounds, pop out massively as a distorted mess and thus kinda give me the creeps (and things like a Bedlington Terrier seem just fine in spite of their weird trims for the same reason)

No one said they were evil. Animals aren't naturally safe to interact with, we bred them to act in ways we can control. Zebras bite and kick regardless of training, it is their instinct not to let you touch or ride them. You can't pen a gazelle, it will beat itself to death against the sides of the pen until they die.

Domestic animals share a hierarchy that humans can usurp. Horses live in fixed orders, we just convinced them we are on top of that order. Dogs live in packs, we live in herds so it is easy to get them to treat us as their parents.

No rhino can be made safe for human riding. You might get it to do what you want with enough sticks and carrots, but you can't be sure it is safe. A pet wolf is safer then a pet tiger, and a pet dog is tens of times safer then a pet wolf. Animals are never totally safe or predictable, it is about how much they average out.

So the question is if the breed of pit bulls makes them more dangerous then other dogs, or if bad pet owners just like pit bulls. The same question came up with bull dogs, rottweilers, dobermans, and dalmatians over the last century.

Are celebrities PCs or just really fancy NPCs for the PCs to meet? How many PCs are there for there to be so many NPCs? Is being a recurring NPC a blessing because your meaning in life was more important then selling McDonalds to a PC one time, or a curse because your life is crazy and tragic?

OK, I'll bite. What are the northern Great Lakes? And are you sure they're not just Pretty Good Lakes?

Okay so living close to them makes them feel larger than they actually are, but Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake are very good lakes and should be counted amongst the others!

Your problem is that you're letting your lakes ruin wild! Better to lock them up in a nice, safe District :smalltongue:

Where do you draw the line? If you include Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake, then Lake Winnipeg and Lake Athabasca will want in.

Those definitely sound like just OK lakes. What's great about 'em?

No one cares about Lake Winnipeg, least of all people from Winnipeg.

My Prairie born self remain unconvinced that most of the above mentioned lakes are not in fact seas that decided to lengthen the strait between them and the oceans to lower their salt content.

In all seriousness, first time I saw Lake Superior, my brain kinda just shut off (flying over it in an airplane and being unable to spot shorelines from that hieght for a while was a bit much).

A lawyer and one of his assistants is up in our office today and the assistant in question is basically a roaming, sentient cloud of weed smoke and it could not be funnier. Just this completely stable and normal person going about doing legal work, while also smelling like a rope store caught on fire making everyone around her sleepy.

I created four superheroes:

Tier-Man, Tier-Woman, Tier-Boy and Tier-Girl

Their powers is to increased their tier power from Bottom-Tier To God-Tier. So what do you think of my superheroes?
