About holding two weapons

So with out the feat you need two light weapons when you want to TWF, With the feat you can use any weapon that takes one hand. But there is nothing in the rules that say I can't have a Rapier in one hand with a whip in the other and picking which one I wanted to use when I make the attack action right? With out he feat I would not get the Bonus action attack, yeah?

Correct. If you have the extra attack feature you can actually make an attack with each one no problem.
