Hi everyone. NaNoWriMo is around the corner. For anyone who doesn't know what NaNoWriMo is, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. The objective is to write a 50,000 word novel in 1 month (November 1st-30th). If you want to learn more about it head over to NaNoWriMo (http://www.nanowrimo.org).

Ok, that aside, who is participating this year? And do you have any idea what your novel is going to be?

I'm taking part, with a really messed-up story involving demons, political upheaval and mass genocide. Do not ask.

I have a sci-fi story in mind... but I'm starting to lose faith in it.

Never lose faith! Don't chicken out! Write first, think later!

Rockin! It doesn't even sound like it would have to be good.

(I'm not participating, just browsing the people who are.)

I'm definitely doing it. I started a novel back in March, decided I was doing it wrong, and junked the manuscript. I'll be starting from scratch this November.

Plot's kind of weird. Sex and schizophrenia in Stalinist Leningrad, in a nutshell.

I've never been the kind of writer who's able to put a novel together (leaving me out in the frigid cold as an outcast of the modern writing society, it seems), so I won't be participating.

But I am, of course, a firm supporter of the event. So to those of you of the Novel persuasion, good luck.

Tried that, then my character got killed in Mafia before I could find out his whole story.

Write first, think later!

See, that's the problem... The whole thing is based off of an idea I had for a design contest about this time last year and I decided to turn it into this novel two months ago. I won't start writing for another two weeks, and I've already overthought this mess.

I'm sticking with it for now, but I may take a left turn come the first.

If I have think to time.

Seriously, if I get inspired, maybe. But it's unlikely. I have quite a lot on my platter already.

After looking it over and considering how much time I have? I'm going for it.

I've already got the idea for my story- it involves gods, demons, angels, and the creation of all that exists, though not in that order.

It involves Pink Floyd.

Oh yes.

I'm doing it, sort of.

I have a story that's about a serial killer couple and thier stumble into the killing lifestyle. It starts as the main character is dieing :smallamused:

I've got an idea, but I'm a bit self-concious about it. Oh well. Basically it's about a young man (Age 25?) who decides humanity is flawed. So flawed in fact, that it doesn't deserve to survive. He struggles with coming to terms with his mindset, until he witnesses a rape. He snaps. He becomes a mass serial killer, and in the end takes his own life.

Sounds dark. I'm intrigued by it though. Hope it doesn't suck!

Huh. I'm into writing, but I never really seem to be able to be around to make something for it. Either that or I get a little lazy.

Or, y'know, I just ignore its existence. It means I might have to do something that takes effort.

Not this year, more's the pity. I can't swing 1,666.67 words per day. Also, I've been hacking away at my own novel for some time now, and I want to finish that first.

You know it! No idea what it's about...let's think about what I'd like to write about.

*The Beatles
*Humor
*Sci-Fi

The Beatles in space! Yellow Spaceship!

But seriously, need to think about what I'm going to write... :smalleek:

Just signed up. I haven't got the slightest idea of what I will write. I just want to write something and that's all. I'm not even that good...

I had a flash of possibly insane insight, and figured out a much easier novel to write while still being intriguing and interesting. It's journal style- from the view of me, but insane and paranoid, entirely certain that there is some huge conspiracy all focused on my downfall.
I'll be taking whatever happens to me every day, elaborating it and embellishing it, and seeing how I can fit it into a crazy plot against me.
I think I've got some of "my" personality figured out already. I'll probably use a different person, maybe even a different place, but it'll be inspired by my life and what is happening to me. Should be fun.

I'm probably insane, what with all the homework I have, but I'm signing up.

I've got a few ideas for stories.

Looks like we have a pretty healthy amount of playgrounders heading for the big 50k. Awesome! We should definitely try to encourage one another and provide input when needed.

I'm not that good a writer, so if it's okay I'll go for less novel sized and more novella sized if that's okay with you guys. I have so much on my plate right now anyways. Websites to run, College to do, Games to create, Forum Games to run.

Quite a good idea! It would be a good idea to place here our NaNoWriMo's profile or something like that, wouldn't it?

EDIT: Linky to my profile! (http://www.nanowrimo.org/user/231826)

For me to be able to do this, I'd have to get rid of all distractions and silly things that take up a lot of my time.
Since that would include college, I don't think I'll be able to participate. Cheers for all you fellows who will, though!

Well, I may as well post this (http://www.nanowrimo.org/user/110286). Maybe if I tell enough people, I'll be able to stay on task this year.

Title: Nanakmel
Genre: Literary fiction
It's supposed to be about a young man, freshman in college, turned babysitter, and his encounters with Melvin "Nanakmel" Dowrin, an eight year old boy convinced that he's a changeling from another world--and that Corbett is as well.

I think I'm going to enjoy this one. I haven't had decent inspiration in years.

Title: One Thousand Years of Peace
Genre: Science Fiction
I described this to a friend of mine as being, in essence, Huck Finn with dope fiends in post-apocalyptic Chechnya. There you are, then.

Title: The Holy Dark
Genre: Historical Fiction
This novel is based on the premise that the Sol Invictus cult DIDN'T die out in Roman times, and survived into the 1600's, where certain events tip the already perilous balance between the two religions, and how this affects our protagonist, the obsessive-compulsive Bishop Paul, of Rome.

I'm UID 240621, writing Whiplash/Amnesia, a mystery.

Well, okay, I'm not sure about the genre. It's just the closest fit.

EDIT: also, does anyone have a good widget that will display my progress that I can put in my signature? The progress bar I've got currently doesn't seem to play well with the NaNoWriMo site.

Lets get started.

Title: In Holding
Genre: Suspense

Basically, it takes place over a serious of police interviews. It's about a serial killer couple, and their confrontations with the lead detective. With a bunch of twists.
