One of my players wanted to craft soul gems. I did not know pathfinder already had a bunch of stuff for this. So I made my own. Figured I could share it with everyone.

Soul Gem Crafting

Using precious gems, crystals, or glass you have learned to create soul gems. To create a soul gem is a Spellcraft check equal to the Will DC of the soul gem you wish to craft. A soul gem absorbs the soul of target dead or dying creature within 30ft. The creature must be dead for no more then 2 rounds. The DC is equal to 10+level* of soul gem. If the creature passes the will save the soul escapes from the soul gem and quickly moves on to the afterlife shattering the soul gem dealing 1d6 per 1 level of soul gem of slicing/piercing damage to anyone in a radius (see table below) around the soul gem. Anyone in the radius can take a Relax save equal to the soul gems DC to take half damage. Example a Minor soul gem (level 4) is used. It costs 400 gold to make. The creature passes the save of 14 Will. The soul gems shatters doing 4d6 of slicing/piercing damage to anyone in a 5ft radius. The Reflex save is 14 to take half damage. If multiple soul gems are used at the same time and the creature loses against all of them then the soul is fragmented into that many parts. For the purpose of HD split the HD of the creature for each soul gem (round down). Example a creature with 10 HD is captured by 3 soul gems. Each soul gem now holds 3 HD of that creature. Any extra HD is lost. The soul will stay in the soul gem indefinitely unless the soul gem is destroyed**. If a soul gem is destroyed with a soul in it the soul gem explodes with 1d6/2 levels of the soul gem (minimal of 1d6) of slicing/piercing damage as the energy holding the soul is released otherwise it breaks like a normal gem. The Reflex DC used is the DC for the soul gem. By targeting a full soul gem with an ability or spell that specifically targets a soul you can pull out that soul in the soul gem as though it was a creature. This does not prompt a save for that particular spell or ability. For every soul that is pulled out of the soul gem, or using the soul as a material cost for a spell, the soul gem loses 1 point to it's DC and level (minimal of level 1). If the soul gem reaches DC of zero it turns into a worthless stone. Putting a soul back into a soul gem will trigger another Will save. For every additional time a particular soul is put into a soul gem that soul gains a negative level. If the soul gains more negative levels then HD it is permanently destroyed. Any attempt to resurrect a body whose soul is trapped in a soul gem requires a caster check against the DC of the soul gem. If a soul is resurrected or raised all existing negative levels are removed and the soul follows normal resurrection rules. You can also use the soul in the soul gem for material cost of spells. Doing so does not destroy the soul gem. For price refer to Book of the Damned vol 3: Horsemen of the Apocalypse (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/daemons#TOC-The-Soul-Trade). Capturing a soul is an evil act that goes against nature.

The soul gems are Minor (1-5 level), Lesser (6-10 level), Greater (11-15 level), Grand (16-20 level), Perfect (+21 level).

Minor - 100xSoul gem level of gold to make, 5ft radius

Lesser - 500xSoul gem level of gold to make, 10ft radius

Greater - 1,000xSoul gem level of gold per level to make, 15ft radius

Grand - 5,000xSoul gem level of gold per level to make, 20ft radius

Perfect - 10,000xSoul gem level of gold per level to make, 25ft/+5ft (per 5 soul gem levels above 25) radius

*Level refers to the level of the soul gem not character level. Technically as long as you have the gold/materials a level 1 character can create a Perfect soul gem.
**The hardness for soul gems is 5+level. The health of soul gems is 1/per level. Sonic damage ignores half the hardness of soul gems.
