View Full Version : WotC Website Adventure Archive

I remember the WotC Website had a selection of pre-written adventures available for free download, such as 'Bad Moon Waning' and 'A Dark and Stormy Night'.
I remember downloading several of these, and having fun running a couple as starter adventures. But now I can't find them...

Am I just being blind and there is a link in the WotC Archives somewhere?
If not, does anyone know if they've been archived somewhere for posterity?

Thanks in advance

There have been a number of panicked archive efforts when the archives went down, so I'm sure they're somewhere. But as for WotC, I'm pretty sure they removed all the official links. As to why, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the old free 3.5 web adventures. . . on DM's Guild, where they're charging a dollar each for them now.

Would it be the Vicious Venues (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/vv) articles you are thinking?
Im sure there are more, but they are quite nice, not to mention the other articles in the archive....

So does this mean we can't link them?

I've had a good look through the WotC official archives, and Vicious Venues isn't it I'm afraid TheCount, but there is some cool stuff I'd like to make certain I have on my hard drive 🙂

Elves knows what I'm talking about 😁 Do you have the full set archived or just those few?
There's a full list of WotC Website adventures on Wikipedia, and I've been having some success googling adventure titles, but if you have a complete set that would be spiffing 😁

Ooh, good call there Elves...
I had a look on DM's Guild earlier on my phone but couldn't find my way around 🤷*♂️

Unfortunately it looks like that one was taken down.

Legend of the Silver Skeleton (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20061017a) and Return to Temple of the Frog (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20070223a) still have their .zip files available for download from the Wizards archive site. Head of Vecna (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20070401a) never had a download and is still up there.

I don't think they are on wizards.com anymore. WotC is selling some of them (including Bad Moon Waning (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/182423/Bad-Moon-Waning-35?term=Bad+Moon+Waning) and A Dark and Stormy Night (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/169621/A-Dark-and-Stormy-Knight-35?term=a+dark+and+stor)) on Drivethrurpg. They aren't free anymore, unfortunately.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It seems a shame that these things weren't just moved to the archive with everything else. How awkward :smallfrown:

Thanks! That's very helpful.

(It would save some time if the adventures were in an archive.)

I'm of the opinion that was entirely deliberate, so the companies that had licensing, such as DriveThruRPG could sell them for profit.

Just as an aside, as well as the adventure archive PDFs, there was a handful of PDFs from other articles, which also contain adventures/locations, such as Hobgoblin Outpost (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20030725a), Tougher (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060418a), The Kopru Ruins (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060306a), Diseased! (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20070413a), Curse of the Rusty Walrus (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040924a) etc. There may be others.

I’ve never seen these before, these are great.

You always bring me the very best violence obscure 3.5 material. :smalltongue:

Edit: Sadly, it's worth noting that the link to the Kopru Ruins .zip file isn't working--it goes to a 404 page on the Wizards site. (Weirdly, it's the MTG section of the Wizards site.)

This is especially disappointing, because I remember the kopru from their first appearance in AD&D. Still got that module somewhere around.
